Is there a place in Eberron for the more traditional European medieval elements of fantasy, such as knights in shining armor, jousting, kings, castles, codes of chivalry, etc?

Of course, a DM can put anything he wants into a setting. But will such medieval elements be out of place in Eberron, compared to everything else in the world?

read about silver flame. think about thrane knights. i am not sure but it looks like feudal system dominates old provinces of Galifar - still waiting for confirmation from Finish brothers.

what else do you need? for me this is more medieval than FR is. eberron medieval feel is like in Holy Lands when crusaders settled this land(with feudal Europeans, Saracens, Byzantine empire, turkish and Mongolian like cultures).

At this moment i received confirmation, pls read below

Hmm. I'll try. You first question is easy to answer, really... The text gives no details about heraldry or color schemes of any organizations, leaving it to the art to sort such things out. So, probably.

The second is a tad bit tougher. The Knights of Thrane are only given a short entry under power groups of Thrane... They're a knighthood who answer nominally to the crown and actually to the Council of Cardinals, the leaders of the church of the Silver Flame. Since nothing is said about their social class, I'd guess they consist of noblemen outside the direct line of inheritance in their families.

As for the third... I haven't read the entire Life in the World chapter yet, but most nations seem to have a feudal system, or something very close to it. The actual governing systems of the nations differ, with Aundair a traditional feudal monarchy, Thrane a theocracy, and Karrnath a military dictatorship.

Absolutely. As Shemov says, Galifar is largely feudal in nature. Thrane in particular has a strong tradition of chivalry, but there are knightly orders in other nations; the Order of the Emerald Claw first appeared as a knightly order in Karrnath. As for jousting, such pastimes vary by nation and city; in Sharn you actually have a strong tradition of aerial jousting.

But yes, Eberron still has much of the flavor of traditional fantasy.

Aerial jousting, hmm?

Just out of curiosity... what do they ride while doing said aerial jousting?

A wide variety of creatures are used in the aerial sports, from hippogriffs to glidewing dinosaurs. Depends on the sport and part of town!

Breland and Thrane seem like the best nations for knightly action, what with the Knights of Thrane and the "We love the king!" attitude in Breland.

Thanks for the answers. I'm intrigued by Eberron, but I would never want to give up the more traditonal medieval elements of D&D. It's good to know I won't have to. :)

I also love the chivalry and knighthood aspects of the Paladin class, so it's also good to hear of concepts such as the Silver Flame and the Knights of Thrane, which seem like they would support the Paladin concept well.
