Does Khorvaires shape remind you of anything? [Archive] - Wizards Community

I was trying to superimpose a map of Europe over the new one of Khorvaire to get a feel for the size of the place

And I was thinking that the US would be a much better fit.

You've got kinda two mountain ranges - one on each side.

If you squint a bit the star shaped inlet with Thronehold in the middle might be a great lake, with Eldeen Bay and Karrn bay being others...

And, er, well, I'm from the UK and my America Fu doesn't run to being able to tell if thats a thing or if I'm just seeing things.

What do you locals think - is there anything Florida like about Valenar? Halfling Dinosaur Riders in the right place to be a gag? Can you force things to get Alaska to be the Demon Wastes?

Or is it all in my mind?

The Shadow Marches are Asia Minor (modern day Turkey).
Southwestern Breland is Saudi Arabia.
Zilargo is a stubby India.
Valenor is Vietnam/Laos/Thailand/Cambodia.
Talenta Plains is mainland China.
The islands of the Lhazaar Principilities are Japan/Taiwan, while the mainland portion resembles the edge of eastern Russia and the Bearing Straight.
The Demon Wastes appear to be Finland and Eastern Europe.

12-07-04, 09:26 PM Its me mentioning the other wide, squat continent with significant appendages. Also, Australia is Aerenal, Africa is Xen'drik, Argonnessen is South America and Sarlona is North America.

Of course if you tilt it sideways Khorvaire makes an almost reasonable South America too.

I live in South Carolina and can confidently say there are no deserts in the southeastern United States. If you flipped the country around, so that Florida and the Shadow Marches correspond, it sort of works except where the Demon Wastes and New England would fall. Otherwise, it's amusing to think of Texas as Zilargo, Washington as the Lhazaar Principalities and the Midwest as the Mournlands...

Its kinda like how Ohio and Mordor kinda overlap. Creepy.

There is no natural or magical healing for outsiders, as my girlfriend's ingrown toenail hasn't healed in months.I had one of those once. Turned out I was cutting my nails too close, and it got snagged in the skin. Try telling her not to cut that nail for a month or so, see if that helps. It'll hurt like the dickens for a while, but tough it out.

12-08-04, 05:01 PM This thread is amusing, simply because our "game room" is covered with maps: both real- and fantasy-world maps. The Eberron map is placed right next to a map of Russia and the former Soviet Union, and we were commenting a couple weeks ago just how much Khorvaire looks like the old Soviet Union, including some large bodies of water and mountain ranges in similar places.

Then again, people tend to see things where they want to see things! :D

But really, modern politics aside, my point was [not expressed clearly] drawn more from the horrific visions of New England that drove the pen of H.P. Lovecraft... the things that rest unquiet below these old, weathered hills do exercise some pull on the imaginations of the people who live here.
