Does the Mithral Body feat reduce arcane spell failure for Warforged Wizards? [Archive] - Wizards Community

I was talking with a friend about whether or not Mithral Body should reduce arcane spell failure for a Warforged Wizard. In the DMG it says any armor or shield made with Mithral has 10% reduced spell failure. Since a Warforged Composite Plating is a type of armor, I thought it stood to reason that a Warforged with the Mithral Body feat would have reduced spell failure. My friend said he didn't think so because the feat doesn't explicitly say that it does. So, I was wondering if there was any official rule on this or if anyone has a somewhat official answer on how to handle this issue. Thanks

Easily solved by a quick look in the Eberron Campaign Setting book. Mithral Body gives you 15% spell failure. Not taking a body feat will stick you with 5% failure from standard composite plating.
Taking the Unarmored Body feat from Races of Eberron allows you to wear armor and robes and recieve their effects, plus 0% casting failure, but you have no composite plating or anysuch thing.

Did you not actually read what the Mithral Body feat does?

The feat itself describes a new, higher spell failure chance.

If you want to cut your ASF, consider Unarmoured body (0% ASF) or the Twilight enhancement from the Explorer's handbook for -10% ASF.

One thing to think about is that the Mithral Body feat does not simply mean the warforged's composite plating has mithral in it instead of some other material. The composite plating is really the equivalent of leather armor, despite being composed of alternate materials. The Mithral Body feat replaces this "leather armor" with a mithral breastplate, and Adamantine Body replaces it with a lesser adamantine fullplate, rather than simply giving the warforged's composite plating the properties of the special materials.
