Does the Sharn Inquisitive have the wrong year? [Archive] - Wizards Community

01-23-06, 11:00 AM I've noticed that the Sharn Inquisitive is now posting articles for "News for Sul, Zarantyr 1st, 998", but shouldn't it be the year 999?

The previous articles were dated "News for Sul, Vult 15th, 998" which is for the last month of the year - VULT, and ZARANTYR is the first month.

???? :confused:

01-23-06, 11:26 AM I think I remember reading somewhere that WOTC was not going to progress the world beyond the year of the CS, so it would make sense if the SI continues to be in the year 998. Of course, I do tend to remember things that never happened, so take this with a grain of salt.

01-23-06, 11:34 AM I believe that dragonchic1500 is correct. It may seem strange to start all over, but doing things this way allows each DM to set the game at their own pace. If your game is progressing into 999, then just change the year on the article as needed. :)

01-23-06, 04:24 PM If you take a look at the dates none of them really sinc up together in chronological order. It just sorta bounces around from date to date.

01-23-06, 08:20 PM The 998 is intentional. There's no "one month in the real world equals one month in Eberron" rule or anything like that. You can--and probably should--advance the timeline in your own game as you see fit, but you shouldn't feel tied to a specific pacing set by anyone other than the folks at your gaming table.

The months do sync up, though. Stories that appear in January have Zarantyr dates, the February ones have Olarune dates, etc. Usually the month is irrelevant to the story, but sometimes I'll write articles that are seasonal (like snow blocking the Graywall passes) or tied to a specific holiday or festival.

As for the days, the Sharn Inquisitive always publishes on Sul. That means the 1st, 8th, 15th, and 22nd days of the month.
