| snikt-snikt12-08-06, 11:07 PM | What setting breaking events have happened in your campaigns to change the face of the eberron that your PCs, or you as PCs, adventure in. For example: 1) Xulo through Merrix is running Cannith South. Xulo is more lawful evil than chaotic evil in my campaign. 2) Through a complex series of events a warforged PC ended up in an area as the Lord of Blades was killed. In my campaign, the LoBster is actually a docent which, once inserted into a warforged, eventually dominates its new host and continues his role as maniacal madman / savior (depending on your PoV). Anyways, the warforged PC ended up looting some of the LoBster's body, found a docent, and hastily (foolishly) inserted. PC = the new LoBster. 3) The BIGGEST change. Through unknown means the mourning has spread west. It has engulfed Zilargo, Darguun, and now most of Breland. Think about this Sharn + The Mournlands = DMs paradise. I'm sure there are tons of changes out there that are better than these. |
| cancerousmango12-08-06, 11:30 PM | Nice. Your Eberron is ****ed. |

| hunter_in_darkness12-09-06, 12:14 AM | Nice. Your Eberron is ****ed.Thoroughly, possibly even seven ways to sunday. yep nice job there |
| Paulon12-09-06, 12:25 AM | It could be worse. Try the Forgotten Freedom's Eberron for a really messed up world variation. |
| Kaizer_Ryu12-09-06, 01:55 AM | :embarrass What? Just because we've: 1.) defeated the Demon in the Flame 2.) laid waste to Dal Quor 3.) wounded the Dreaming Dark itself 4.) killed off most of the Inspired 5.) turned Sharn into rubble no less than five times because we were bored 6.) gone to Xoriat twice and been kicked out for being too weird 7.) killed the Hags of Sora Kell (well, two anyway) 8.) pwned the Lords of Dust 9.) discovered two alternate Eberrons 10.) brought Krozen down in flames 11.) returned the Thranish royal family to power 12.) repelled an Imperium invasion with the help of the Tyranids 13.) created a new Native Outsider race (my fault) 14.) created a new goddess (also my fault) and introduced three underappreciated but entirely necessary gods (gender neutral) 15.) uncovered an ancient plot to breed suitable Chosen ones in order to bring forth the power of the Dark Gods, all of which seem to be members of the crew 16.) eliminated who knows how many ancient cults "because they started it" 17.) use the Emerald Claw for target practice 18.) found a way to kill god-like beings permanently 19.) have single-handedly averted the Last War simply by making sure there are just too few people left to fight 20.) are in the process of installing a Lycanthrope as a heroine and Princess of Thrane 21.) have endured more anime/videogame spoofs than seems possible 22.) explored the merits and drawbacks of Spoony Bardcraft 23.) killed Pun-Pun 24.) whomped on the C'tan 25.) destroyed a ten mile radius of Valenar because we could 26.) found a way to make the Half-Celestial and Half-Fiend templates work on the same creature 27.) are able to use the very insanity of the ship as a powersource 28.) seem to breed more humorously overpowered children than seems possible 29.) enjoy lesbian :pile: far too much, making it painfully obvious we're a bunch of lonely nerds 30.) and somehow cause most of the previously mentioned children to come about from said lesbian :pile: That means our Eberron is messed up? :D You bet it does. :evillaugh :evillaugh :evillaugh |
| Pivotal12-09-06, 12:55 PM | Mine isn't really to different. Sharn has recived some cosmetic changes, so to say. (Added a giant floating arena) But they havent gotten around to really impacting the world just yet. However, I expect them to do lots of fun things later on ^^ |
| Paulon12-09-06, 01:12 PM | :embarrass What? Just because we've: 5.) turned Sharn into rubble no less than five times because we were bored Not to mention training Sharn so well that the citizens blow up the city themselves rather than let the FF do it again? 7.) killed the Hags of Sora Kell (well, two anyway) Hey, two of them are still alive. Of course one of them is now a cute little puppy-wolf instead of a hag, but she's still alive. :D 20.) are in the process of installing a Lycanthrope as a heroine and Princess of Thrane And just wait until the poor current queen works out she's vowed to exterminate her own granddaughter. 21.) have endured more anime/videogame spoofs than seems possible So far you've missed one of the classic videogame series entirely as far as I can tell. Of course it's American in origin rather than Japanese. 23.) killed Pun-Pun I can still imagine the crew's winces after those two little pops when Satnak kicked him in a really sensitive place. :D That means our Eberron is messed up? :D You bet it does. :evillaugh :evillaugh :evillaugh And if I wasn't as sick as a dog at the moment, I'd probably have gotten around to creating a character to play around with there. |
| Charles Phipps12-09-06, 04:37 PM | To be credited actually, I think the Puppy Hag was blown up with their tower and is quite dead. Maeyna may also have joined the conflaguration. Plus, the Dracolich that emerged and was promptly blown up was probably the Chosen one of the Keeper and the creature of said region. ;-) |
| Alex_12-09-06, 06:13 PM | 1. I've kind of upped the "technological" progression a smidge. There are more things like watches, ink pens, and typewriters. They're just as likely to be magical as they are clockwork, and many use magic in subtle ways, like animated springs and gears so they never have to be wound, dictate when spoken to, and other Eberron-y things. 2. Half-Orcs are their own race with their own identiy (like Half-Elves), although Orcs are still relatively rare and still live with humans in the Shadow Marches where they still make baby Half-Orcs. I've also changed it so that the Marks of Finding and Sentinel appear ONLY on Half-Orcs. Now all the Human and Half Human races have 2 Dragonmarked houses each, and the Humans no longer have control over 4, while the Half-Orcs only have 1 (which they had to share with humans). Also, having Half-Orcs as the Dragonmarked race that controls the mercenary and hired bodygaurds guilds just seems to make more sense. And in perhaps my most heretical move... 3. I allowed Rennaisance-style firearms (from the DMG). They're an invention by House Cannith in Karrnath during the last war. Gunpowder's just another alchemical substance like Alchemist Fire, or the goop in Tanglefoot bags (need to be a caster to make it), and so far, they haven't had a great affect on society. They just exist in the background so that a character can make their swashbuckling pistol wielding Pirate or Indianna Jones type character with a whip and a pitol. Mechanically speaking, they aren't that good anyway, especially compared to Repeating Crossbows, which see more use in my Eberron, or magic, which still remains the most influential tool. |
| cancerousmango12-09-06, 09:48 PM | My players killed Sora Tereza. She's not coming bacl. They made sure of that. So every game we play now will take place in that Eberron. |
| Charles Phipps12-09-06, 10:34 PM | I made a lot of changes to my home game. I can imagine everyone thinks my Eberron doesn't even remotely resemble the real one. 1. Lightning carts are more blatantly early automobiles. 2. "Lightning Guns" exist to replace pistols and act like ray guns. 3. Sharn is blatantly New York City Fantasy. 4. Karrnath is Germanic-Russian in feel. 5. Aundair is France. 6. Sarlona is Imperial China. 7. Lhazaar is the Middle East. 8. Thrane is a strange Spain/Italy combination. 9. Breland is very American/English in feel. 10. Q'Barra is fantasy Lousiana with Lizardmen replacing black slaves on plantations. 11. Airships are a lot more common with lots of skypirates and non-Lyrander pilots (some non-magical zeppelins also exist) 12. The Emerald Claw act like Nazis and have Thule Society overtones. They're also radically anti-demihuman and pro-human. (Demihumans are corruptions of the sacred Bloodlines) 13. The Sovereign Host is very Pagan in feel and Greek like. 14. The Kalashatar in Khovaire live a primarily Romani like existence seperated from Adar (which is Tibet) 15. Artificers can make magical devices very equivalent to Steampunk. 16. The Lord of Blades is a 13th level Wizard as well as a warrior and is very Doctor Doom in feel. 17. There's an entire city of warforged in the Mournlands that's all mechanical in nature. 18. Prince Oargev is gay (long story behind that, one of the players is his lover) 19. The Mourning is slowly reversing itself due to defeating a Lord of Dust that had stolen all the rain from the land. 20. The Mournin's primary problem is a magical version of radioactivity. 21. A special druid sect called the "Redeemers" are slowly destroying all the poisonous magical "Dragon Dust" that caused the Mourning. 22. The Aurrum is blatantly SPECTRE with near unlimited authority in many places. It was their experiments that caused the Mourning (with Merrix D'Cannith's help) 23. House Cannith has been destroyed and decimated due to the player's revelation about the Mourning and everyone is gearing up to return to war. |
| Eled_the_Worm_Tamer12-10-06, 05:42 PM | My ebberon? Mostly the same apart from: Abberant marks stabalisng into true houses. The Mark of death returning, thouthus far Vol has no hold over the marked. A promanant Pharlani Syberys heir beginning a colonial conquest of Xendirk, with the intent f esablishing annation, strting with the lost capitol of the Giants. Yeah, practicly as it is in the book... |
| CannibalSmith12-10-06, 06:52 PM | (I'm not the DM.) Xoriat infestation in Eldeen. Aundair used the opportunity to launch a surprise attack and take Varn and the surrounding plains. Towers of Arcanix are like Breland's mobile fortresses, but much more powerful. |
| AvonRekaes12-10-06, 09:31 PM | In my game, the Mourning has also spread, but into Thrane. However, Flamekeep was saved in a display of divine energy as the flame itself expanded to engulf the entire city (though not burning anything within it.) When dead-grey mist met silver flame, it halted and was kept at bay. After nearly two weeks, the flame receeded back into the cathedral, but the mist held it's position. The residents of Flamekeep were not wholely untouched however, and about a third of the population was significantly changed in some way, becoming half-celestials or aasimars (Or even azers with silver flaming beards for dwarves). Also, several people became Azurins and them and others became attuned to the Incarnum soul energy of all the couatl and warriors whose souls have joined the flame. (Producing many Good incarnates and Lawful Good soulborn, but also a smattering of evil and neutral ones). In the mean time, Breland, Aundaire, and Karrnath started pointing fingers and placing blame, and soon the Last War began anew. (However, Warforged production is still illegal). The entire thing was a plot set up by the Dreaming Dark. You see, they wanted the war. They wanted Khorvaire to spend centuries at war so that they could gradually come in with Khorvaire-born Empty Vessels and repeat the process by which they conquored Sarlona. However, the first Mourning was something not even they could foresee. After studying the Mournland and it's effects they figured out a way to spred it. After the Second Mourning they used Inspired court-members and possessed royal officials to sow paranoia and dissent among the remaining rulers. Oh, and they tricked the PCs into building the machine that caused it. |
| Koofoo9512-10-06, 09:36 PM | The only change in my campaign world is that Breland and Thrane are at war after Thranian inquisitors(The PC's) assassinated a baron(they were mislead by a demon) |
| Edymnion12-11-06, 12:57 AM | 2) Through a complex series of events a warforged PC ended up in an area as the Lord of Blades was killed. That is actually a very cool idea, I may steal that. Other than that, no, my Eberron looks pretty much exactly like what is in the books. I've toyed around with changes, but haven't actually put any of the big ones into practice. I want to actually play the setting as written until I get bored before I go changing things. Just like I want to actually play in KHOVAIRE before I go galivanting off to Xen'Drik and Sarlona. Call me crazy, but I still think there is so much in Khovaire left untouched that I could spend the rest of my days playing in it without touching on all of it. |
| dsivis12-11-06, 02:29 AM | Yeah. For now. Orien might be splitting along regional lines the way Cannith did tho - with the Mourning and the broken Whitebridge, younger, more militant members of House Orien are signing up to work in the Eastern half of the continent. They're trying to negotiate more Lightning Rail lines into Q'Barra and elsewhere for expanded business and are making deals they shouldn't - like with the Aurum and the Inspired. My game's PCs recently put a big hole in the plans of this ugly alliance, ******* off members of the above 3 organizations (including an Aurum member who is the Dwarf Brb's wife) as well as the Blood of Vol (1 baddie killed was an Orien heir affiliated with the Blood)...so things will get interesting next session. |
| DwarfPcfan12-11-06, 11:52 AM | My eberron ''looks'' pretty much the same as standard but behind the scenes it's a whole different story here's a sample: 1- House Khundarak is actually a lot more then just the banking guild and other official information. Baron d'Khundarak has a brother slowly working into expanding their power by taking over the power bases of enemy houses ( opened an artifice branch that's taking over many Cannith interest, special mercenary forces, and of course investigations). Aarun d'Khundarak artificer 13/heir of syberis3:P :D !!! 2- Khundarak, Phiarlan and Sivis are working together destroying enemies of the houses as well turning the houses attention to the draconic prophecy. It's sort of a shadow court Also Aarun's work. Thanks to the Pcs working under Aarun. Sivis, Phiarlan and Khundarak have made a secret alliance against enemy houses. powerful patrons indeed... 3- the lobster is actually an awakened Iron golem artificer 15 4- Karnath did a lot better in the war... 5- Lychantrope problems... 6- Yugoloth mystic theurge problems... Have fun... |
| Thwyvylyn12-11-06, 02:27 PM | Mine looks roughly the same though it has a much more WW1 feel to it with the military wearing trench coats and such. I tend to make it much less medieval and more late 1800s without guns. My warforged tend to show up more often and in better social standing than the ECS would suggest. My Eberron also tends to have less courtly intrigue than one might think as well. Raptoran are native to the coastal areas of Khorvaire and live in the tops of large trees and on cliffsides. They fought as anti-ship commandos in the Last War, mostly for Breyland and Karrnath. Thri'Kreen live in the Blade Desert and prey on any Valenar they can find. Goliath live in the mountains of northern Droaam/Eastern Shadow Marches and have been there for a good long while. They keep to themselves mostly. Kobolds tend to be everywhere doing all the things that normal people do except they do them in groups of 4 or more. |
| BlackTiger12-12-06, 05:29 AM | I like to think that -Most- of the things i include in my game run well with Canon, aside from some scary stuff emerging later in the campaign(s). Because, well, my Eberron game for my players... Is actually two games. I am running out of the modules for my low level group (7 ATM), who are about to let Xulo wake up... And running at the exact same time (although players have only recently noticed,) a high level party (just hit 13) is squaring off with the Lords of Dust and not just one, but a series of renegade dragons. And, Esravesh is single, and a dragon fragged her BF... only to be brought back by a young druid as a Gnoll and cause all sorts of hell. The biggest changes I've probably added are a few choice locales in Sharn, notably a specific house Lyrandar enclave, I've fleshed out a sort of prison on Stormhome for keeping sky pirates Lyrandar thinks could get out of their crimes in the Five Nations, Bulwark ended up somewhere very, -Very- -VERY- strange in my game... Lyrandar has secret multi-ring airships and are doing host-knows-what with them, one of the most powerful artificers in Khorvaire is a Shifter (13th w/ 2 levels of ranger with a killer construct companion (remember that Bulwark comment?...) And no one outside of me knows it yet, but something Tiamat-like (which I've pinned down as an elder dragon of mysterious origins laid to rest ages past) might try to wake up soon, and five dragons are going to be working very, very hard to keep her down when my -third- campaign begins... So far the high level game has seen a smattering of Dragonspawn cropping up with increasing regularity, and the pair of half dragons they are going to be grappling with are just the beginning. I'm looking forward to my low-level party dealing with Xulo, so that I can break them off from the Module chain and let them claw their way out of Xen'drik. |
| Grymar12-12-06, 10:16 AM | Let's see...as far as the pre-player world it is for the most part canon. But the players have changed or seen changed the following: - The Cloudreaver pirates are no more... - Dreadhold is no longer inescapable - Merrix has been kidnapped by the LoB to help him restart the forges of Making - An abberant army is marching against the LoB in the Mournlands - Thrane and Aundair are about ->||-< that close to restarting the war against each other And many more things that I can't say without fear of one of my players reading this. |
| CameronVk12-12-06, 01:45 PM | My biggest change is about to manafest, the players on an expedition into the mournlands found survivors in the city of Making and rescued the Head of House Cannith who had been under the influance of a Dalkeir and may have had something to do with the mourning... He has been laying low but will soon make his bid to regain control of the entire of House Cannith. |
| DoveArrow12-12-06, 03:55 PM | I don't know if you would call it a change so much as a divergence. In the Player's Guide to Eberron it says that one of the Incarnum races (I think they said dusklings) lives in the Talenta Plains, and that halflings often use the totem magic of incarnum. Personally, I thought that was a pretty lame idea. Nevertheless, I still wanted to make Incarnum a part of the world, and so I decided to introduce it as part of a campaign. The basic premise of the campaign was that a sect of the Whispering Flame decided to try and bring to life an anti Voice of the Silver Flame, who would replace Jaela Daran and seek to carry out the wishes of the demon within the flame. In order to stop this plot, the PCs ultimately had to destroy a crystalline structure that was composed of Incarnum, thereby inadvertantly unleashing Incarnum magic upon the world. Other than that, I've tried hard to make sure that the PCs are able to leave the world pretty much the way they found it. |
