| Galen_Michael04-26-05, 07:15 PM | NOTE: To anyone playing in my Eberron campaign (i.e. Hawkeye) - DO NOT VIEW THIS CLASS! Chosen of the Prophecy “You will play a great role in this verse of the Prophecy, Heir of Siberys… whether you wish to or not.” – Jarlan, Chosen of the Prophecy (818-854 YK) Each generation a soul is born with exceptional insight into the Draconic Prophecy. Some dragon scholars say this “Chosen of the Prophecy” can read the Prophecy better than any other. Others claim that the Chosen has an innate, mystical understanding of the Prophecy itself. Still others whisper that the Chosen One can actually shape the world around him to fulfill the Prophecy. Regardless of the rumors, one thing remains clear: the Chosen exists to see the Prophecy fulfilled. The path of the Chosen is a difficult one, as the Prophecy does not always dictate which path an individual should take, merely what the consequences of such a course of action will be. The Chosen of the Prophecy must strive to use his knowledge of the Prophecy to guide others to what he believes to be the proper path. Some Chosen have been largely contemplative, reflecting on the mysteries of the Prophecy and subtly guiding others to fulfill its many verses. Others have been more direct, commanding or even forcing others to undertake actions which will see the Prophecy fulfilled. Some have used their knowledge for the good of all people, while others hoard their insights and manipulate others for their own personal gain. The Prophecy does not seem to have any moral standard or special set of criteria for its chosen prophet, other than a talent for divination and a willingness to see the Prophecy fulfilled. ENTRY REQUIREMENTS Skills: Decipher Script 8 ranks, Knowledge (arcana) 8 ranks, Sense Motive 8 ranks Feat: Spell Focus (Divination) Spells: Must be able to cast at least three divination spells, at least one of which must be 4th-level. Language: Draconic Special: Must be the Chosen of the Prophecy for the current generation Hit Die: d4 Table 1-1: Chosen of the Prophecy Base Attack Fort Ref Will Level Bonus Save Save Save Special --Spells per Day-- 1st +0 +0 +0 +2 Divination specialization — 2nd +1 +0 +0 +3 Prophecy domain +1 level of existing class 3rd +1 +1 +1 +3 Detect dragonmark +1 level of existing class 4th +2 +1 +1 +4 +1 level of existing class 5th +2 +1 +1 +4 Known to dragons +1 level of existing class 6th +3 +2 +2 +5 +1 level of existing class 7th +3 +2 +2 +5 Greater Spell Focus (Divination)+1 level of existing class 8th +4 +2 +2 +6 Read the stars +1 level of existing class 9th +4 +3 +3 +6 Certainty of The Chosen +1 level of existing class 10th +5 +3 +3 +7 Fulfill the Prophecy +1 level of existing class Class Skills (4 + Int per level): Concentration (Con), Diplomacy (Cha), Gather Information (Cha), Knowledge (arcana) (Int), Knowledge (history) (Int), Search (Int), Sense Motive (Wis), and Spellcraft (Int). Class Features The Chosen of the Prophecy's class features allow him to read the Prophecy in unique ways and even allow him to fulfill the Prophecy indirectly. Weapon and Armor Proficiency: The Chosen gains no proficiency with any weapon or armor. Divination Specialization: The Chosen is a master at reading and understanding the Prophecy. He may cast one additional spell per day, but this spell must come from the Divination school of magic. In exchange, the Chosen must give up one other school of magic, which becomes his prohibited school. Spells of the prohibited school are not available to the Chosen, and he can’t even cast such spells from scrolls or fire them from wands. He may not change his prohibited school later. Prophecy Domain: At 2nd level the Chosen adds the spells listed under the Prophecy domain to his Spellbook or spells known. These spells represent the Chosen’s ability to consult the Prophecy. Any time a spell references a deity or extraplanar being, replace the reference with the Prophecy. The Chosen also gains the granted power of the Prophecy domain. Detect dragonmark (Sp): The Prophecy plays out across the world in many ways, but none more prominently than in the marks borne by the Dragonmarked races. At will, the Chosen may detect dragonmarks as the spell detect magic with the following alterations: 1st Round: Presence or absence of dragonmarks. 2nd Round: Number of different dragonmarks and the power of the most potent aura. 3rd Round: The strength and location of each dragonmark. If the creatures bearing the auras are in line of sight, you can make Spellcraft skill checks to determine the spell-like abilities granted by the dragonmark. The Spellcraft DC is based on the type of mark (see the Eberron Campaign Setting pg. 47 for Spellcraft DC by). The result of the Spellcraft check determines the highest-level abilities revealed. Aura Strength: Least dragonmarks give off a faint aura, lesser dragonmarks a moderate aura, greater dragonmarks a strong aura, and Siberys marks an overwhelming aura. Example: Jarlan uses detect dragonmark to determine whether or not Sheela possesses a dragonmark. After studying Sheela for two rounds, Jarlan determines that she has a dragonmark with a strong aura (a greater dragonmark). Jarlan studies Sheela for a third round, then makes a Spellcraft check. Jarlan gets a total check result of 22 and consults pg. 47 of the Eberron Campaign Setting. According to the chart, Jarlan is able to identify a lesser dragonmark (DC 20), but not a greater dragonmark (DC 25). Thus, Jarlan learns only of the spell-like abilities Sheela possesses from the lesser and least dragonmark lists (in this case, gust of wind 3/day and wind’s favor 2/day). Jarlan correctly concludes that Sheela has the Greater Mark of Storm. Had Jarlan rolled a 25 or better on his Spellcraft check, he would have also learned that Sheela’s greater mark grants her the power to control winds 1/day. Known to Dragons (Ex): By 5th level word of the Chosen’s favored nature has reached all dragons who study the Prophecy. The Chosen gains a bonus equal to his class level on all Charisma-based skill checks when dealing with any dragon who studies the Prophecy. Greater Spell Focus (Divination): At 7th level the Chosen gains Greater Spell Focus (Divination) as a bonus feat. Read the Stars (Sp): At 8th level the Chosen can read the portents in the stars. Each evening he may study the stars for one hour, thereafter gaining the benefits of a moment of prescience spell for the next day (caster level equal to character level). Certainty of The Chosen (Su): By 9th level the Chosen has learned to read the Prophecy so well that he no longer needs to roll for divination spells that have only a chance of success (such as augury and divination) or that require a caster level check (such as vision). These spells automatically provide clear, accurate information. Additionally, divination spells with a variable casting time (such as legend lore) always use the minimum casting time, regardless of familiarity or circumstances. Fulfill the Prophecy (Sp): At 10th level the Chosen gains the ability to influence others directly in order to fulfill the Prophecy. The Chosen may use limited wish as a spell-like ability once per day as sorcerer of the Chosen’s character level, so long as he does so to fulfill some verse of the Prophecy. Prophecy Domain (borrowed from this website (http://hyboria.xoth.net/gods/new_domains.htm)) Granted Power: Once per day, reroll any die roll and choose which one to keep. Prophecy Domain Spells 1. Identify: Determines single feature of magic item. 2. Augury: Learns whether an action will be good or bad. 3. Tongues: Speak any language. 4. Divination: Provides useful advice for specific proposed actions. 5. Commune: Deity answers one yes-or-no question/level. 6. Legend Lore: Learn tales about a person, place, or thing. 7. Vision: As legend lore, but quicker and strenuous. 8. Discern Location: Exact location of creature or object. 9. Foresight: "Sixth sense" warns of impending danger. I'd love any advice on how to format the table so that it looks right. Comments or suggestions on the class itself? Thanks, Galen |
| Edmon04-27-05, 12:21 PM | lol - my advice could be better, but I only found one worthwile point... the Decipher Script prerequisite - kind of screams "wizards only". Why not change it something else, so that Sorcerers can grab at it too? Or make it only 4 ranks, so that character can take it cross-class and still get it. Shrugs. |

Decipher Script is a class skill for wizards, and rogues, and bards. A 10th-level bard could trivially meet the prerequisites for this Prestige Class, aside from the "Chosen of the Prophecy" requirement itself. Indeed, I would suggest that a bard is a better fit for this rôle than a wizard, despite the wizard reaching the spellcasting prerequisites earlier. —Siran Dunmorgan —Siran Dunmorgan |
| Galen_Michael04-28-05, 02:04 PM | Thanks for the prerequisite suggestions. Do you think I should I also drop Sense Motive to 4 ranks since neither wizards nor Sorcerers have that in class either? I like the bard route - didn't think of that before... Any comments on the actual class features themselves or the overall balance of the class? I take silence as approval ;) Galen |
