Sharn Inquisitor 05-16-06, 04:21 PM	Hey all, not sure if anyone has seen this issue yet, but the Ecology of the Dracolich is really nice. There is a small box on Page 89 that says the Keep takes the form of a skeletal dragon and makes his lair in the Demon Wastes. That was news to me, thought it might be relevant to others. Perhaps the Keeper was a Dragon of Argonessen who aligned himself with the Children of Khyber during the Dragon/Demon wars...eventually becoming so old as to achieve Dracolich and eventually god-like status? Neat thought.

This is a legend many people believe, and the dracolich in question has certainly used the name. On the other hand, the Lords of Dust article in an earlier issue of Dragon suggested that this same dracolich might be a creation of the Overlord Katashka, a remnant from the Age of Demons. Or it might be a dragon who's achieved dracolich status through devotion to the Keeper. So, the legend is there; it's up to you as DM to decide what to do with it.
Takasi 05-16-06, 07:56 PM	Any relationship between the "Keeper Dracolich" and Dragotha from the AoW conversions? What's the name of the dracolich in the Lair of the Keeper? I'm also interested in the planar dragons. I would adapt the following: Chole dragons are related to Xoriat. Astral dragons are related to the Astral Plane. Gloom dragons are related to Dolurrh. Elysian dragons are related to Thelanis? Main question on my mind: if dragons are creations of Siberys, what are planar dragons? They are still considered dragons, not outsiders. Perhaps they were originally from Eberron, but were distorted due to manifest zones? Perhaps they fled during the Age of Demons? It would be very interesting if Argonnessen had a wide variety of manifest zones and the ability to easily travel to the planes. The most interesting part of the article on dracoliches is the concept of an army of dracoliches with their own kingdom in Argonnessen. The continent is large enough to support a wide variety of dragon realms, and this is something I hadn't give much thought to before.

That's certainly the name USED by the dracolich in the lair, which is one of many reasons it's called the Lair of the Keeper in the first place. The question is whether he truly has some aspect of divinity or is simply using a legend to increase his personal reputation... and that's a question I'd personally prefer to leave in the hands of each individual DM. In my AoW conversions, I didn't link Dragotha to the Keeper dracolich, because in my opinion the KDL is quite content governing over his personal pocket realm of the dead (well, very powerful Dolurrh manifest zone). To the degree that he's interested in the outside world, I think it's mainly in gathering specific souls for his collection. On the other hand, since I suggested that Kyuss is drawing on the power of Katashka, this means that Dragotha and the KDL might share a common origin, if you take that path. As for the other questions, certainly other people may have opinions, but I'm still crazy deadline boy, so answers from me will have to wait until the new AKB appears!
