| MysticTheurge09-25-06, 08:42 AM | So I skimmed some of the recent posts, but I didn't see anything on the topic. It seems to me that Dragon Magic has a ton of stuff that could be incorporated into Eberron in a bunch of really interesting ways. Especially given the lack of alignment/color restrictions. I had some ideas of my own, but first I wanted to hear what other people are doing with the material. What are you pulling from Dragon Magic to use in your Eberron setting and how are you using it? |

Most characters serve a dragon patron, an elder dragon usually with a particular goal. Benefits include resources and plot hooks, and they add some 'plot NPC' grips to derive characters from, since the game operates out of one main town. Most dragons care little for their servants, even the junior dragon-PCs. Races: Dragons (using the dragon mag progressions at first, then a homebrew generic dragon class) Dragonborn Dragonkin Githyukari, a 3rd gith variety that worships dragons. Kobolds. (Yay!) Lizardfolk of all three kinds Maenads (seren-derived apprentices to the gem dragons) Saurian shifters, including integrated subraces for raptoran-style gliders and Large half-ogre-derived brutes. Seren humans, including more learned kinds. Spellscales For classes, I allow just about anything, though I've got some pretty main-route players. PHB, XPH, all 5 complete books, HoH, PH2, ECS, etc. Generally there should be a storyline basis although since I happen to be the most experienced player, my players tend to say 'I want to try this', and I say 'ok, this is where it fits in everything so far..' Personally, Dragon Magic was written exactly for what I do in my game. I plan on using the dragonfire adept, in combination with the Sorcerer, the Dragon Shaman, and (with some new re-writes to focus) my custom Dragon class, to represent the variety of dragonkind itself, with different personal focuses on physical over magical or supernatural, or vice versa. (Sorcerer represents the innate spellcasting, dragonfire represents the breath, SLAs, and some light physicals, while my dragon class will focus on the natural weapons, movement and flight abilities, with some light breath and spellcasting.) Half-dragon and draconic-related races will probably just take these classes to get more into their heritage, with some rewrites on the base features of those races. I'd say you wouldn't just jump into it and say 'I wanna be a human dragonfire adept!', you'd have to do something to unlock this, a blood ritual, a discovery of real draconic ancestry, etc. In Eberron, this isn't so easy to come up with, but it can work in its own way. I think of it as, the dragonfire adept is to the dragonblooded what the warlock is to the tiefling, or the favored soul to the aasimar. The basic race idea is too constrictive, instead, the race is stretched out into class, giving you the option of expanding on those powers to the expense of your other classes, if any. |
