Effectively, ever since the Giants nearly destroyed the universe by messing with the laws of reality, the Dragons have pretty much declared themselves the presenters of anything like their culture happening again. The Last War was the result of the Dragons rather than the Dreaming Dark and they furthermore worked on enslaving all the humans of Sarlona with the DD help. They foster brushfire conflicts, genetically tinker with humans (making the giants smaller, shorter lived, and more violent), while also the Chamber sabotages the efforts of existing infrastructure to keep everyone from going beyond Medieval level of existence. The Dragon Prophecy is essentially their charting of human development and micromanaging it on an absurd level. Much like the Dark, they seek to prevent the wheel from turning. Make it all very "Matrixy" where they're unwilling to wipe out mankind for whatever reason but they don't want them ever approaching the level that they used to have. The Dragonmarks on the other hand have something to do with this. Perhaps its a natural evolutionary resistance against the Prophecy that immunizes them to the dragon's manipulations on some level? |
