i activated my aberrant mark the other day in a threatened square. it was the first mark used in our campaign. does activating a mark provoke an AoO, and if so what happens if the attack succeeds? We could find nothing in the ECS.

It is a spell-like ability, with all the associated traits.

Dragonmarks are spell-like abilities. So yes they do draw an attack of opportunity, however you can cast them defensively like you would a spell to avoid the AoO. (Concentration check DC 15+spell level).

This is covered on page 142 of the players handbook, under the Use Special Abilities section.

Some dragonmarks have a "new" spell-like ability; if so, they should list the equivalent spell level (to help you figure out the Concentration DCs).

If not, look at other dragonmarks of the same level to figure out the approximate spell level.
