This summer I've had the rare fortune to have an internship with Lee Moyer, the man responsible for designing the dragonmarks for Eberron, along with the holy symbols and a lot of their maps. I've learned a lot about the business, along with how the dragonmarks originally started.

The look of the dragonmarks has progressed from a rather weird location. At one time they looked a lot more "celtic" I suppose. I have a picture stored on my website if you want a look below:

http://evildm.datavortex.net/temp/Aberrant.jpg

I've found these prototype dragonmarks to actually be awesome images for aberrant marks. I share this because I think now we have an idea of what aberrant marks might look like. I've also seen a lot of Deneith prototypes as well.

I just found it really interesting that the images we see as dragonmarks didn't even exist as we know them now. They went through a lot of changes. I thought it would be fun to share some of the images with you guys.

As an aside, I'm helping Lee sell some of his sketches on ebay. Searching for Eberron Artwork should them up if you were interested in owning a bit of Eberron history.

Oh, and one last thing. There are actually designs to the mark of death. I'm going to talk to Lee and see if I can share what some of the marks look like with guys.

Anyway, found it interesting. Hope this helps some people.

Cheers,

I also got PCGen, cool!

Checked out the auctions, I'll wait until prototype dragonmarks go up for sale. Tattoo here I come!

PCGen is one of the best programs I've seen for character creation. The best part about the program is that their code language is easy to learn. I've managed to code most of Eberron by hand into my list files as needed. Plus it makes adding my custom prestige classes easier as well!

Great program. For free, no less!

Dude, how the hell do I get the eberron dataset that I get off the codemonkey website to work? I have version 5.81, and I BOUGHT the one that's supposed to work for 5.81, and it doesn't work, it says "Cannot apply .MOD; PObject 'Warforged' not found."

Do you have 5.8.1 RC2? That seems to solve a few problems.

Okay, first this is odd. I didn't have a problem using these same files, but have you downloaded the new files that were out I think in April or March?

First, a .MOD is attempting to mod the object Warforged. It's telling you that there is no warforged to modify. Meaning another list file isn't working right.

One other thing that might help is doing the following.

Open up: ebrncs_d20_fantasy_v35e.pcc

Change GAMEMODE to:

GAMEMODE:CMP_D20_Fantasy_v35e|CMP_DnD_Eb erron

In all your Eberron stuff files. Then load the default DnD setting and you can now use Eberron with all the complete books. This might also help if you have the MMIII files, as they have a warforged to mod as well.

Hope this helps! If it doesn't check the PC Gen forums!

Edit: Did you also buy the 3.5 ruleset data sets? If you're still in trouble, drop me a PM here and I can help you out.

I made some offerings to my dark lord Illselsine, had my kid bang on the keyboard, went to www.meatspin.com (please don't go there) and that solved it.

JK, I uninstalled the program, extracted it as opposed to installing it with an exe, and then extracted all the pertainant files to the prog, works like a charm.

OP: Good stuff :)

I know that I, for one, would love to see the Mark of Death (if it's allowed)... as it will be making an appearance in my campaign at some point. ;)

I find it odd that we haven't seen an official pic of the Mark of Death yet...
I know it's supposed to be essentially purged from Eberron, but it was my understanding that Erandis d'Vol, though unable to actually use the mark, still has it visably on her somewhere. :) ...then again, I find it odd that I haven't seen a picture of her yet, at all (though I might have just missed it or not read the material she's pictured in yet).

No, there is no pic of her anywhere. But I'm going to try to stat her now, which is an odd coincidence.

I'm waitin' for the sales to go down to a day or so before I buy them all. All of them. They're quite affordable, so I'm going to bid on all of'em heh. Too bad they're not framed in anything.

I just want to take a moment to applaud myself for having just swept the prototype dragonmark auction... Within a month, there will be a Lee Moyer sketch exhibit on my living room wall. :D

Saves-Vs-DM, is there anyway we can cut a deal on the shipping? Surely, it won't cost $15 if you package them all together? Please drop me a PM or an AIM about this. (We've talked on AIM before; my name is the same as my eBay ID.)

Save, are you allowed to share what the marks of death look like?

You'd best scan those mothers dude. Don't cloister those things. Just thought of a cool new magical disease: dragonmark infection. The dragonmark starts to go into a state of necrosis, weakening the character, and it's communicable; every time the infected character uses their dragonmark around someone else with a mark, they risk transmitting it. Weird. Too bad none of my players are marked.

Fear not! I am definitely going to talk with Saves (and hopefully Mr. Moyer himself) about redistribution rights and the like. That's really the reason I went for it and bought them all up; I want to make sure I do everything in my power to make these images accessible to my fellow Eberron junkies.

At the very least, I'd like to get them scanned and put up on a website for fan access. (As I understand it, having possession of the sketches does not automatically confer the right to copy or distribute the images, so I will have to get permission before doing this.)

I'll add in the desire for these images to become viewable for the greater community. All We'd need is a gallery and a place where this gallery could be linked. Perhaps a huge thread filled with all sorts of Eberron art and perhaps links to artists. Indeed, such a thread would be most usefull ;)

But seriously, it would be nice if they were presented to all of us, in one way or another.

Excuse me if this sound somewhat off-topic, but I'm new to the forums. if it matters at all, the Mark of Death design, if you decide to make one, should suggest the shape of a dragon's skull.

I've also been thinking of a quest where one has to capture and combine the essence of the Siberys versions of all 13 dragonmarks to unlock a huge part of the draconic prophecy.

I'd appreciate it if you told me what you think of this idea of mine for a quest, and possibly, help me write the quest itself. I value your feedback. Also, if it helps, i'm planning to prank my friends in-game by introducing either a lovely Half-celestial shifter sorcerer or an even lovelier half-celestial nymph, to fall in love with one of them (we're a three-man crew; one is a warforged).

If there is one for the Mark of Death, it would have been long since made.

Quite true, i'll agree. Still, we haven't seen any artwork for the Mark of Death, so why not design our own particular sigils?
