First off I did not look too hard in the forums, so i am sorry if it has already been posted.

I have been running Eberron for about a year now, same group until yesterday we added one more (my little brother). He brought up a very interesting question I am having a hard time finding an answear too if there is one.

When it comes to dragonmarks, are they "powered" by arcane, divine, psionic, power from within (which could come from any of the previous mentioned), the power of the prophesy (sp) itself, or some other means?

I did not think it really that important of a question but in our games we do keep the line between arcane, divine, psionic, etc. pretty bold. So what do you people think/know?

Dragonmarks are spell-like abilities, so they are neither arcane, divine, nor psionic.

I'd say that the power of the Prophecy is a good enough guess, Dragonmark seems to be considered a part of it, IIRC. But beisde that I don't think this was ever defined in canon.

Their power most probably stems from the prophecy, so define for yourself what that means.

However, I'd say arcane is more likely than divine, since there's the Draconic Sorcerer feat (or something like that) that lets you integrate the abilities into your regular sorcerer levels.

The dragonmarks just sort of are.
They shut down in an anti-magic zone, but then, so does all magic, so thats not a tell-tale sign of anything.

The power is not arcane, because they don't use external magic.
They are not divine, because you don't need faith to use them.
They are not psionic, because the power of the mind controlling the mark doesn't matter.

Dragonmarks are their own source of power, and nobody really knows where it comes from.
