Looked in a lot of places and cannot seem to find a single reference to the actual size of any of the Dragonmarks. Implication by art seems to show that the dragonmarks increase in size when they increase in power but I'd greatly appreciate seeing if it says that in writing in official material somewhere.

Maybe I'm blind, but I dont see it anywhere.

I believe its implied. They get larger as they become more powerful. According to the illustration of the PrC the Syberis mark covers the entire body. Oh and check the ECS for the shapes and progression of the dragonmarks. They're on the edges of the pages in the feats section. All 12 of them I believe. No Mark of Death for you.

Check the AKB thingie (can't remember the word... need caffine) that MarkB updates. I';m pretty sure its there somewhere.

All up I think its roughly
Least: 1-2 inches diameter
Lesser: 4-6 inches diameter

dunno about the others - Siberys just cover your whole darn body I'm pretty sure.

Or do what I do, the size presented in the book the average size of the mark. The great marks are the size or a moderate sized tatto, enought cover one's should fairly well.

I looked at the ask keith thread and couldn't find a mention of dragonmark sizes. And yeah, as far as I can tell, in all the resource material, I believe that the sizing of dragonmarks has been implied. I find it strange that nowhere in official print that something as basic as "how big the damn things are?" isn't directly stated considering how important they are in the world setting.

It's come up in one Eberron campaign because it's possible that people may want to hide these marks and it may be difficult depending on how much skin it covers.

I personally consider a least mark to be something you'd fit on a bicep.

A lesser I'd say would be something fit on the entire upper or lower chest (if ab's are the lower, and up to the neck is the upper) or back, or down the entire arm and a bit on the back and upper chest. In either case, however, it wouldn't extend to front and back unless it was on an odd angle or somesuch.

For a greater mark, I'd say it'd extend over the entire front or back torso, or if located on an extremeity (like the arm), it'd cover the entire extremity, and a good portion of the front/back of wherever the extremeity attached to the torso.

Sibery's is a full-body experiance. No exception.

I'm guessing it is one of this things they decided to leave up to the DM or player in question. Generally WOTC doesn't like dictating what the PC's apperance is going to be.

Given some of the illustrations of dragonmarked characters (i.e. the Dragonmarked Heir at the start of the prestige classes section), it's fairly easy to judge the size of marks. I would say that the Least mark is shown at actual size in the illustrations throughout the Feats section, and the Lesser and Greater are double and triple that size respectively. Each Siberys mark contains a negative image of the Least mark at its centre, and this could be taken as a size guide, though the Heir of Siberys illustration indicates it could be even larger.

They definately aren't life-sized illustrations.

Looking at page 73 of the ECS, the Dragonmark heir there has either a least, or lesser dragonmark (not sure, but given the NPC stat's written up on the very next page, I'm assuming it's a lesser), and it's taking up a pretty sizable portion of her back. It wouldn't be so easy to hide, especially if someone were searching for it.

Also on page 81 is a picture of a dwarf with a Sibby mark, and it's a full body experiance.

Those pictures are how I formulated my ideas above. :)

It's the Lesser Mark of Storm (see page 65), and you're right, that is larger than I remembered it offhand.

On the other hand, the Least Mark of Making sported by the girl on page 156 of Sharn: City of Towers isn't all that large.

Wow... I can't believe I'm contemplating a tattoo after seeing those..

My girlfriend has a Least Mark of Making between her shoulders. It's about five inches tall and it about the right size for a Least Mark.

A Lesser mark I'd make somewhere between seven and twelve inches tall, depending on the mark. A Greater would be most of a torso or limb. Siberys... think we have a concensus that a Siberys mark is all over.

However, following with what has been presented in the artwork in the sourcebooks and in the novels, I see nothing wrong with allowing a PC taking a 'mark feat to determine exactly how big and where it is, within reason.

I've also noticed there appears to be some precedent for 'marks appearing in locations that the bearers can't actually see: back, neck, shoulder blade, head, etc.

Oh yeah, location and size should be up to the player... to a point. Location anywhere is cool, but the siberys can't be 3 inches in diameter and a lesser can't be your whole arm. As long as they within reason its good. Then again the problem is GETTING people to take marks, but thats another thread.

There's a problem with getting people to take marks?

Wow, I suddenly feel sorry for your group.

I've had at least one marked PC in every Eberron cast I've DMed so far, and have had two sets of characters who all had 'marks.*

* - Cannith, Deneith and Sivis for one group and Cannith, Jorasco, Lyrandar and Orien for the other... that was an entertaining day...

My artificer's abberant mark is on the back of her right hand (its a Burning Hands mark). My Vadalis character's least mark is on his forearm. In Keith's novel, Jode's mark of healing is on top of his bald head.

Take from that what you will.

Well they're weak mechanically, not worth a feat (though a few of the marks are nice IMO). If I actually GOT to play I'd take a dragonmark... oh.. unless I was a warforged... or an orc druid... crap. Look at this. So many things I want to play and I can't even play ONE of them because our old DM got sick of dnd and hasn't DMed it for several years, he now DMs Warhammer Fantasy and Alternity. Quite fun but not Eberron.
And our group only has 3 people including myself. And noone has responded to any of the stuff I've put up in the classifieds forum, and I've registered to a few others. Noone 18-25 seems to like roleplaying on Long Island. Or maybe they just don't look at the forums. Crap.
