Ok, the chart lists the prerequisite for Protective Dragonmark as being "any true dragonmark."

The Text itself reads "any Lesser, Greater, or Sybris mark."

Assuming (as is normal) the text overrides the table. An Aberrant Mark would qualify, yes?

Else if the table is right, a human could have DR 5/Magic at 1st level. Um, a bit much?

I was thinking of this feat route for a character

1st Aberrant dragonmark- Shield
3rd Lesser Aberrant Dragonmark- False Life
6th Protective Mark
9th Greater Dragonmark- Fire Shield.

Think of it as a Deneith dragonmark gone wrong.

No. Aberrant marks are not true marks. True marks refer to those that breed true.

The confusion there is because the actual feat doesn't mention "true" it just says "any Lesser, Greater, or Syberis".

The confusion being if "any Lesser" and "any Greater" include "Lesser Aberrant Mark" and "Greater Abberant Mark".

While it isn't spelled out in the feat text, I would guess the mere presence of the Mark of Khyber feat for Aberrant Marks would indicate that Protective Mark isn't meant for Aberrants. That said, the text isn't clear.

*nods* Text is supposed to trump table.

The Mark of Khyber feat goes down a different path, and you'd have to be 12th level to get it IIRC. Plus (Again IIRC) Material based DR doesn't go away in an antimagic shell. It's an (EX) property so 5/byshek is, on some levels, more powerful than 5/magic.

*I had the name wrong, it's actually Mark of Xoriat*

Not so, unlike the true mark feats Mark of Madness and Mark of Xoriat do not require anything beyond the least mark. A human character can get the feat at level 3.

As an aside, I'd just like to say that I continue to be suprised how cool Dragonmarked is. I didn't expect the book to be all that useful (like Players Guide to Eberron) but the shear amount of cool fluff and dragonmark options it presents are just awesome.
