Dragonmarked Error - Silver Key [Archive] - Wizards Community

11-11-06, 02:13 AM Just read Dragonmarked; loved it.

However, it appears that a Dwarf can enter the Silver Key PRC at 2nd level.(ok, ok, 3rd level...a rogue1/wizard1 could have the Knowledge (architecture/engineering) prerequisite) I'm sure that the class must require a Dragonmark as a prerequisite (probably lesser or the character would still be able to enter the PRC at an absurdly low level).

There is no Dragonmarked Errata file yet and I need to know...the newly minted Dwarven Fighter/Rogue in my campaign wants to know so he can create his character for tomorrow.

11-11-06, 02:30 AM Not really. They need dodge, (Level 1 rogue let's say). 4 ranks in disable device, hide, know: architecture and engineering, and open lock. Now, the rogue gets them all except knowledge arch. To have four ranks in that, they'll need to be level 5 min. They can also get a level of wizard to counter it. Finally, they get trap sense+1 as a level 3 rogue. So you'll need THREE levels of rogue, ONE level of wizard before they meet the preqeqs. The minumal level to get into the class is therfor at FIFTH level, since you must meet all preqeqs before taking the class.

Not really....

The character that I plan on making can get into the PrC as a Lv 3 Rogue... here's how:

His level 1 feat is Education from the ECS, and his level 3 feat would be dodge

This would be the quickest route in, as far as I can see, too! All in all, the Silver Keys ROCK!

Oddities similar to this have cropped up before, such as the Vigilant Sentinel of Aerenal Prestige Class from Magic of Eberron. Given that it was in a book dedicated to magic, itself dedicated to a race whose favored class is Wizard, it seemed odd that the class included no spellcasting prerequisite and did not incorporate any spellcasting progression.

So there is something of a precedent.

My advice? Let your player have fun with it, dragonmark or no.

11-11-06, 07:11 PM Well, I hope that is not a mistake. I like that in a world where high level character are rare there is a PrC accessible at low levels. Beside is not exactly an overpowered class, IMHO, it is very specialized, is very good at what it does but it is not a monster.

I don't think it is a mistake, tho. There is a couple of reference at dragonmark in the class abilities but they all say that "if you have a dragonmark", etc,etc so I think it is not assumed for this class to have one.

Vadalis beastkeeper also doesn't require a Dragonmark. I'm not surprised that there are a few PrCs that don't require them, many members of the Houses aren't marked, after all. You don't want them to be left out.

11-12-06, 03:27 PM If you read the whole Kundark description there, you'll notice they're one of the houses when non-dragonmarked characters can get far in the ranks... I think this PrC just represents this. Also I think there was something noted about this PrC being something for non-dragonmarked in the general Kundark description

11-13-06, 01:26 AM As for the low entrance level (most PrCs require at least 5 levels in a base class), there is precedent for that in Eberron as well: take a look at the Master Inquisitive in the ECS. :)
