A thread in one of the other forums got me thinking. Why does house tharask, Based in a swamp, have a desert dwelling creature and house phiarlan, coming from a continent, with very little, if any, swampland have a swamp dwelling creature.

probably for the same reason that sports teams sometimes use non-native animals as mascots.

Excellent point

Climate Change.
So in 500 years The climate of the shadow marches has gone from desert to marsh?

Desert to marsh can happen quite quickly, actually. Some force of geology lowering the land to just above/below sea level... Well, then it would be a salt marsh, but still definitely a marsh. Maybe a river's course was changed 500 years ago by a long-forgotten earthquake (Khyber's rumblings), and suddenly dry land was inundated.

I'd love to see a Dragonshard explaining more about the House creatures, anyway.

But also, at one point between -15000 and 500 it to switch from a marsh to a desert then switch back between 500 and 998. A variety of new species of herbs would have to spring up since there is no bordering swamp region. Also, there is no bordering desert regions either.

I'd love to see a Dragonshard explaining more about the House creatures, anyway. Ditto. I also want to see a dragonshard on the Shadow Marches.

You're overthinking it.
Why was my high school football team named The Lions, when there isn't a non-zoo lion within some 3,000 miles? The houses, more likely, picked powerful creatures who had qualities they admired, and used them for their seals.

I'm also surprised that anyone took my answer seriously... seeing as it was clearly a jape.
