Dragonmarked outfits? [Archive] - Wizards Community

07-24-06, 07:25 PM I was looking in the ECS at the Half-Elf on pg 73 and was wondering; Do you think they make clothing to show off Dragonmarks around the body? IE: One base set of clothing that can be 'cut' to show a Dragonmarks around the persons body (As long as it's PG). Or do you think people would want to cover there Dragonmark and hide them?

07-24-06, 07:50 PM It would depend on the circumstance (Am I in disguise? Am I walking into a part of town where three heirs have been knifed in the stomach in the past week?) but I would think heirs would proudly show their marks.

Regular dragonmarks are sort of blue-y purple, not red. It could be she has the mark in an inconvenient location (Like the sole of her foot) and thus has had a tattoo done to show off her position to everyone else.

(Of course, the artist could have just intended to shown a mark flaring red as it was being used, but I prefer my version of events.)

07-24-06, 09:08 PM Sorry, I was thinking of a Dragonmarked member going to something like the Tale Gala or something else like that. Think they like showing off a mark on the arm or leg by having a little 'hole' in there outfit to show it off? This would be harder to do for the Greater mark, maybe even the Lesser. I know you could not do it at all for the Siberys unless it's a swim sute on the beach. :)

07-24-06, 09:26 PM Revealing your mark is so crass. The only people who would do it would be those who feel the need to legitimise their presence...the people whose mark skipped a couple of generations or similar - you know, `new money'.

At any rate, going by that assumption, all you do to cover that is wear a shirt, wheras to show it off, you need to wear something backless. As I'm sure most male dragonmark heirs don't walk around dressing as such (O_o) there's probably some other symbols of stature / status amongst the houses, something someone could recognize with a suitable Knowledge (Nobility) check.

Tut then look at the Heir of Siberys PrC. Granted, the Kundarak shown in the artwork obviously wants to flaunt his markings, walking around barechested and bald, but it would be very difficult to cover that up, and of course, to show ALL of it, pretty tawdry for a female heir of Siberys. :ayyyy!: I imagine long hair and dressing like a Cyran (long sleeves, gloves, no skin showing) would cover most of it.

I do rather like the "new money" assertion as well. :rofl: But the thing to note is that all of these people are "money," period. Even the unmarked heirs of the family are financially taken care of - if your father or mother (or grandfather or uncle or whatever) is a d'Cannith, you're probably pretty well off unless you've been cut off from the family (ask Aaren about that should you ever find him ;)).
