Okay, the ToC is up for Dragonmarked. At a glance, the only thing that I can really say is that I wish this book was longer. Four times longer. At least. Looks to be equal parts fluff and crunch, and I'd be lying if I said that all of those new feats didn't make me giddy. Thoughts?

I liked the list of feats and PrCs. And the organization fluff.

The magic items could've been longer. And they crammed all the Aberrant Mark stuff at the end. I almost missed it.

No new monsters. That's lame.

I guess I have to pick it up.

The new feats look great, the length of the aberrant section is disappointing. Also, I wish there would have been some discussion of the Mark of Death (though not actual stats, obviously).

I'm intensely curious as to what these new marks are. "Mark of Xoriat", "Gatekeeper's Mark"? Zuh?

I have to agree with most of what has been said.

Lots of the terms are intruiging. Have to pick this up. I also think I'd like it to be longer. And Abberant Marks at the the end had better be short but sweet.

The thing about aberrant marks is that they're so unpredictable, i.e. it's one way for a DM to put their own "mark" on Dragonmarks. A well-written, brief exposition on aberrant marks should be sufficient; they don't need the detail the established Houses have.

I dunno I always liked the aberrant marks, and now we get details on the war of the mark AND lesser and greater aberrant marks? I was already stoked when i knew this book was just about dragonmarks now I am officially floored.

I thought this looks to be an excellent sourcebook and one I will definately be adding to my collection. I too would not have minded a little more on Aberrant Marks.

Bear in mind that some of the feats in the feat section are aberrant feats, and not just Lesser Aberrant Dragonmark and Greater Aberrant Dragonmark... anyone who's read City of Towers should have an idea of what Mark of Vermin is about! So the section ON aberrant marks is at the very end, but there is additional aberrant material scattered throughout the book.

I know you did, and we are gratefull for it. I do really get what you were say in the chat though, about how you wished there could have been more space.

Seriously! At first I was conused what all these marks were till I saw the Mark of Vermin and thought of the Lady of Plague. Then I freaked out. :)

You're on the right track, but off on the scale. I was actually refering to a character in the NOVEL City of Towers, as opposed to the Sharn: City of Towers sourcebook. As I said in the chat, you'll get to see more powerful aberrant marks, but still not quite on par with Halas and his consort.

Hellcow - By Aberrant feats do mean simply feats having to do with aberrant marks, or actual Aberrant Feats, like those in Lords of Madness?

This actually makes me more afraid than the Lady of Plague. I have a fellow player in my group who loves playing crazy little people ( imagine Jode from City of Towers the kinda crazy lovable we keep him aorund but not quite sure why kind) and the ability to do what the girl does?...kinda scary, mainly becuase he would actually carry out the conversations in real time...in rat.

Oh and the revalation that all those feats that say "mark of" are actually new marks instead of add ons to existing marks has sent my brain into overload...i need this book been a big fan of Aberrant marks since the begining and having an amazing, if i do say so myself, character idea for an aberrant marked character....now all i gotta do is convince my group to play Eberron again.

Actually, I'm afraid you were right the first time. I think all of the "Mark of" feats require some form of pre-existing mark, even if in some cases this is the base Aberrant Dragonmark feat; some are tied to the pure marks. There are still only thirteen pure dragonmarks (and as I said in the chat, what differentiates "pure" from "aberrant" will be explained in the book).

I understand your pain, Hellcow. So many ideas... so little space allowed by the editors. :)

As an aside, since Dragonmarked is printed and about to be published, any chance you could free up some time to take a look at my old thread on the Houses?

You said in the chat that there was an aberrant prestige class, but that it didn't make it into the final edit. Do you think if a Secrets of Khyber book ever comes out, it might get squeezed in there? I think a SoK book would be the best place to elaborate further on Aberrant stuff.

...since Dragonmarked is printed and about to be published, any chance you could free up some time to take a look at my old thread on the Houses?

Seconded. Keith, check his stuff out. It's amazing.

Its pretty interesting that the Silver Key is so easy to get into. Since it only requires 4 ranks in skills, I thought you could take it at level 2, but then I noticed the Trap Sense +1 requirement. This means you need to be Rogue 3 before you enter Silver Key, but 3rd level is still very low for a prestige class. I wonder if all the Dragonmarked PRC's will be like this.

Crafty Hands looks very powerful. It seems like this ability removes almost all the risk from disarming traps. You'll always be safe from 60' away.

Prerequisite: A crown of high dominion can be used only by an elf with the lesser or greater Mark of Storm.
I take it that's a typo. :P

Those Dragonmark enhancing feats seem pretty interesting. :plotting:

Probably not. It's been at the printer's for at least 2 months, if not 3.

Lets' all get set for a round of "can an elf have the Mark of storm?" and "drow are elves... so can they have teh Mark of Storm?"

The trouble is just starting to brew as many of the uninformed read Dragonmarked and immediately claim that they know more about the basics of Eberron than those who were the ones who wrote it. In addition, get ready for the abuses .. because here they will come.

Any the cries of "broken!" will be heard throughout the land!

Let's remember: Some PrCs and feats are better used in home games through RP restrictions then in a purely mechanical game (RPGA-style).

Yes, I believe that balance can be maintained with RP restrictions, but not with rules lawyers in charge.

Somebody in development mixed up the Twelve and the Arcane Congress. After all, how is Cannith West suppose to get you access to the library of the Twelve or a Twelve spell-caster when the Twelve is located in Karrnath, Cannith East's domain.

Replace 'Twelve' with 'Arcane Congress' in the Cannith West description of Favored in House benefits.

A small and petty error, yes, but if people got on my case for spelling mistakes in my write ups, there's no way I'm going to let a professional off easy. :D

Actually, it's not an error. It's specifically mentioned in the Cannith House description that the Baron of Cannith East is quite ticked that Cannith West has such a good relationship with the Twelve.

Exact quote, pg. 19. "Since the Twelve is headquartered in Korth, it vexes Zorlan that Jorlanna's status within the organization exceeds his." Zorlan being the Baron of Cannith East, and Jorlanna the Baron of Cannith West.

They are. Several can be entered after level 3 or 4, and everyone can be taken by level 6.

There was another distressing error in the preview. One of my players is incredibly loyal to the Matriarch of Cannith West, he reacted quite shocked when he saw that she was disguised as a large human male with a magnificent beard.

Although my guess is that the picture is actually that of Merrix and the woman titled Jaxon (human male) is actually Jorlanna..... I hope

Don't worry, it's only wrong in the preview. Cannith has enough issues without adding gender-bending leadership to the mix. :)

The Crown of Dominion mixup is explainable, if you simply consider that for all racial effects, a half-elf is considered an Elf.

And the only elves which can have the Mark of Storm are half-elves.

Now, if they'd really been serious, they'd have just said khorovar...
