The quickness at which they moved through the slogging terrain belied their lack of grace, closing the distance between themselves and the mining crew before any had a chance to react. Rasping lizardfolk battle cries in unison with the smack and crack of their weapons on bone and through flesh. Stunned but not to inaction I clawed at the hand crossbow clipped on my left side. With no time to draw, I turned my back to the first lizard that was rushing toward me and fired the weapon while still clipped, looking over my left shoulder to aim. The shot was high but caught the lizard in the throat, splaying him out into the mud just before me.
