| Hellcow03-27-05, 11:58 PM | Hey. Dragonshards are written long before they go to the web, so there's no quick turnaround. But with that said, I am curious about what people would like to see in future Dragonshards. No promises that I'll write things if they aren't what I want to see, but I'm still curious. So, I'd like you to list five subjects you'd like to see covered by Dragonshards, ranked in order of preference (#1 being most the one you're most interested in). Possible subjects include: Dragonmarked houses, nations, religions, organizations, historical events, conversion suggestions for other sourcebooks (how does Libris Mortis fit into Eberron?). Please be specific - "House Thuranni", not "Dragonmarked Houses." Thanks for your input. |
| rwarner370103-28-05, 12:19 AM | First, I'd like to thank you for the previous dragonshards they have all been great. 1. The Halflings of The Talenta Plains 2. The Undead of Karrnath 3. House Cannith 4. Q'barra 5. The Twelve Wow, it's hard to pick an order to put these in. Hope this is the level of detail you were looking for. |
| InfinityStar803-28-05, 12:22 AM | Well, I for one would love to see some of the following. And let me just say thank you for actually asking us what we would like to see and taking the time to actually look at everything and consider stuff. Anyways... 1. A write up on all the Dragonmakred Houses like you already did with the House Phiarlan parts 1, 2, and 3 (Including House Vol and what they did when there still were around). 2. How do "high level" character act, get treaded and just live in the world of Eberron. (High level being 10th+ considering not many NPCs are much over that) 3. Please more on the history, traditions and holidays of the nations. One thing I love is the calendar, 12 months, 28 days to a month; why not have "real" holidays to put in a few of them. (More then what S:CoT gave us, for more nations/religions/cultures) 4. Maybe touch a little more in-depth on a few of the "lost cities" mentioned in the ECS. Ex: A full page article on Krezent in the Talenta Plains, how did the Yuan-ti come to it, where are the rest of the Coutal, things like that. 5. Introduce a few of your favorite NPCs from your old/currant games of Eberron. Notable merchants, the friend of the king who the PCs talk to, people like that. I'm sure you have hundreds floating around in your head, please share a few with there history and such to help give us more life to everything. Thank you again for this, hope these help. |
| ekomega03-28-05, 12:32 AM | 1) History of the Last War, what happened, major battles, which nations fought which, where did all the Heroes go, who were they? 2) more about the druid sects and their roles in eberron 3) Everything about House Cannith and House Orien 4) Coverage of the Lhazaar Princes, everything going on over there 5) In-depth coverage of Stormreach Thanks for asking :) |
| Crimsonsun03-28-05, 12:36 AM | 1) More on what the common person does each day in Eberron. Helps to get the flavor out if we know what people did BEFORE they became adventurers. This one would cover common games played, etc 2) The conversion shard, for how to fit all those new base classes from the complete books, areas you can use Frostburn and Sandstorm in, etc 3) More examples of "wide magic", little common things people don't even think of as being out of the ordinary 4) House Sivis! :D 5) Orginazational structure. How many are in a unit of Silver Flame paladins/company of Sharn Watch/Valenar patrols, etc. How are these set up? Who's in command? |
| a_psh03-28-05, 12:37 AM | Personally, I would like to see, hmm... 1. The War of the Mark (mostly history; based on how cool the stuff in Sharn: City of Towers was, this would have to have a lot of parts; see also 3). 2. House Lyrandar. 3. More on internal social customs within the houses and the genetics (/eugenics) of marks... i.e. stuff like how people treat an heir, how the need for more marked heirs affects marriage arrangements and other social customs, what it means to marry into a House, how the houses deal with the Siberys-marked, and a bit more on mixed (are those even still around, or did the War of the Mark destroy them all, anyway?) and aberrant marks, perhaps. 4. The Frostfell, perhaps? 5. Hmmm... In the spirit of that little ECS section on how existing monsters have changed, perhaps a discussion of how extraplanar creatures are different in Eberron? Given the way that they've been reassigned throughout the planes, I'm sure devils and demons and angels aren't quite what they are in the Great Wheel cosmology. Similarly, I think a paragraph or two on the roles of the gith and the various half-bloods (and aasimar/tieflings) in Eberron and its cosmology would be nice, too. Honestly, I think of Dragonshards as this ever-expanding source of campaign information. Like constantly-growing addenda to the nations and organizations chapters of ECS. To me, it's something that consistently expands on the flavor of the setting with much the same quality as the book itself. Something crunch-heavy or crunch-oriented like splatbook conversions would really be a waste, in my opinion. |
| Takasi03-28-05, 12:39 AM | I'll post more tomorrow, but I have a more practical request that I want to say right away. I ran Shadows of the Last War, and this was the first time they had been on a train in a fantasy setting. The group was a little disappointed when I told them "nothing eventful happens during the 3 days of travel". (I added a little bit of info on the cuff, but I wanted to keep the group focusing more on your adventure and less on the train.) There may be some crunchy stuff coming out in the Explorer's Handbook, but in the meantime can you add a little fluff? |
| Master of shaarat'khesh03-28-05, 12:40 AM | I second the praise and thanks for all of the previous Dragon Shards articles. I'd love to see; 1. Information on Adar; it's people and monastic disciplines, and cultures 2. The Empire of Riedra 3. Warforged creation process 4. The last war specifically 994 YK and what type of battles and fever pitch had it reached before the Cyree destruction happened. What were the losses suffered and by who, Was the last big battle fought in Cyree? etc.. 5. Argonth mobile fortress. How does it run/operate. how many are/were there what type of defenses, etc.. also 5. Stormreach, Anything on Xen'drik also 5. House Tharashk Thanks |
| InfinityStar803-28-05, 12:41 AM | 2) The conversion shard, for how to fit all those new base classes from the complete books, areas you can use Frostburn and Sandstorm in, etc Frostburn = The frozen north where the Dwarfs first came from and the Lhazaar Princes I think. Sandstorm can be the Talenta Plains or the Deamon Wastes, with all the volcanios and such. |
| Bryce03-28-05, 12:49 AM | In no special order..... 1 Kalashtar, psionic characters are a turn on, more in depth thoughts and such, since im playing one right now 2 House Deneith, and all of the other houses as well, but for my money house Deneith first 3 Airships, different types, civlilian and military ones, if there is a difference in using a fire or an air elemental 4 Talenta halfings, you can't help but love a small guy on a dinosaur with a crazy mask and a big weapon 5 Descriptions of the different nations like the ones of Zilargo, Mror, and Valenar 6 Soverign Host/ Dark Six, in depth like with the Flame |
| AvonRekaes03-28-05, 12:55 AM | I'm highly interested in planar adventures in Eberron, but seeing as how "the planes" would be as broad or broader a suggestion as "the dragonmarked houses", I'll list a few planes I'm interested in, as well as other dragonmarks I want to see. 1. Daanvi, the Perfect Order 2. Shavarath, the Battleground 3. Lammania, the Twilight Forest 4. Adar 5. Lhazaar Principalities |
| ChronosCrow03-28-05, 01:03 AM | 1. Stories and Myth's of Khorvaire (summraries of what /communties/races tell their children) 2. Political stand points of people- Who likes who, who hates who? Who questions who? This could even be broken down into countries, but that's pretty indepth. I also guess this might be approached in summer Khorvaire book. 3. Exclamations of Eberron- sayings peopel use in times of extreme emotion suprise/high pressure/anger/sadness (this could also include name calling) 4. Adar 5. Heroes of the Last War 6. Battles of the Last War- Most Memorable battle of The Last War, Last battle of the Last War, first battle of Last War, Breland v.s. Drooam |
| Hellcow03-28-05, 01:30 AM | Thanks for all the feedback so far. Remember that dragonshards are only a few pages long, so specifics are better than generalities unless generalities are what you want; a dragonshard on "The Last War" will be far vaguer than a dragonshard on "The worst massacres of the Last War." Likewise, when I suggested a conversion, I'd see a dragonshard dealing with conversions of a specific book: for example, Libris Mortis would deal with how the new domains/PrCs/Spells could be tied into the existing religions and organizations, one on Complete Whatever would look at the prestige and base classes presented in the book, and so on. People have already done a fine job converting some books on these very boards, but if you want my official take on things, name the books! And InfinityStar8, I'm afraid a write-up on all the dragonmarked houses (aside from Phiarlan) is twelve articles (or more) instead of one, thirteen if you count Vol - so can you be more specific? :) |
| ChronosCrow03-28-05, 01:34 AM | And InfinityStar8, I'm afraid a write-up on all the dragonmarked houses (aside from Phiarlan) is twelve articles (or more) instead of one, thirteen if you count Vol - so can you be more specific? :) I figured you already wanted to write on all of them |
| Knobl03-28-05, 01:35 AM | 1.- The Undying Court (personalities, history, hierarchy) 2.- The Last War (Heroes, development) 3.- House Cannith 4.- The Fall of the Giants in Xendrik 5.- The Dark Six (followers, rituals, hierarchy, other names) Thank you |
| scwolf03-28-05, 01:46 AM | I'd like to see a Dragonshard about how WotC has hired the guy who wrote The Warforged Puppet Theater Thread (http://boards1.wizards.com/showthread.php?t=266972) onto the Eberron development team, but unfortunately, Dragonshards are supposed to be about the setting, not the people who write material for the setting, so I know that'd never happen. |
| Hellcow03-28-05, 01:51 AM | I figured you already wanted to write on all of them Certainly - my question is which people want to see the most. |
| megamania03-28-05, 01:52 AM | 1 specific dragons and how they act / react to the phophesy. Do they help it along? Hinder it? Only Observe it? 2. Info on House Cannith. It is in a three-way split for power. What happens when one gets the clear upper hold of power? Split of house or civil war? War of the Makers.... oh the evil thoughts..... 3. Info on Breland's Argonth. How to use it. It just screams use but seems like a high level type of thing. 4. Dragon's Blood as used by the Hags. What is up with that? 5. and the obvious...Xen'drik. There are more but these are the five I am most likely to become involved with this year. |
| InfinityStar803-28-05, 02:03 AM | Certainly - my question is which people want to see the most. Sorry, when I first saw the one of House Phiarlan then nothing on the other houses I thought you might not do more for a long while. Was just saying I would love to see something like that for all of them. Probally most people want to know more about House Vol. I would love to know the origens of the house and what they did. How one of them got to be in a relationship with a Green Dragon and such. Sorry, didn't mean to have it be so shallow a question. |
| Neofish03-28-05, 02:12 AM | Heros and historical battles of the last war.... Every Dragonshard is a great suprise for me and I eagerly consume each new bit of knowledge... Superb work Mr. Baker, just superb.... |
| polt03-28-05, 06:57 AM | 1. The Religion, Sovereign Host and The Dark Six. What are the different worshippers of the gods doing? If a cult is dedicated to the Keeper, what their motivation could be, what evil schemes they would plan. 2. More on druids. The Ashbounds, Children of the Winter, Gatekeepers and so on. 3. Elite NPC's! What does Mordain the Fleshweaver do atm? How is he like? Merrix D'Cannith, The great awakened Oak. Some background stories of the best of the best in Eberron would be cool. 4. The Last War. Alliances, betrayal, attitude, major battles, heroes, stuff like that. 5. The Dragonmarked houses, not three pages pr. house, one maybe two. I wanna see the houses in this order: 1. First I would like to see Thurranni 2. Deneith 3. Cannith 4. Jorasco and Ghallanda 5. Medani & Tharask. |
| Magnificate03-28-05, 07:21 AM | 1. House Vadalis. 2. City of Metrol. 3. Greensingers. 4. Irian. |
| Chrys03-28-05, 07:58 AM | 1. Medani 2. Lyrandar 3. Symboits 4. Games in Eberron 5. Food in Eberron |
| darkthought03-28-05, 08:50 AM | Karrnath Blood of Vol Libris Mortis Conversions Aundair Magical Universities In that order. :) |
| Majorafire7703-28-05, 09:16 AM | Lhazaar Principalities Shadow Marches Vol and the order of the Emerald Claw Frostfell House Lyrandar |
| TheRedRobedWizard03-28-05, 09:27 AM | 1) A short article on the naming conventions of the various races (I'd like to see how close I'm coming in the Names... (http://boards1.wizards.com/showthread.php?t=389463) thread). 2) Lord. of. Blades. 3) Aberrant Dragonmarks, or rather, what they used to be like back when they were more powerful. 4) The Chamber 5) The Path of Light That's my Top 5 requests for now. Thanks, Keith. -TRRW |
| Isran_Imrador03-28-05, 09:31 AM | Well, if i get to pick. I would want to see: 1. House Lyrandar (part 1-5 :) ) The guilds, Stormhome, Npc, Airship building and piloting. Air and Fire elemental ship diffrences if there are any. 2. Stormreach (npc, locations) 3. Battle of Shadukar The City before and after. Who (generals) and why they combined forces..what do the restless want... 4. The Rajahs ;) (names, titles, followers...) 5. Games of Khorvaire! (Card, Gambling ect...) 6. Desolate and The Lighthouse (Starkracg) 7. Wayfinders Could go on here, but in general, The Planes and Manifested Zones, NPCs, Elven Histroy (Vol and Areni if that is here name...), |
| snikt-snikt03-28-05, 09:41 AM | First, thanks a ton for considering our opinions. I am interested in: #1) The Blood of Vol #2) Abberant Marks/ War of the Mark #3) Valenar #4) Order of the Emerald Claw #5) Dreaming Dark-though I know Races of Eberron is said to have more info in it. Thanks |
| Gurv03-28-05, 09:50 AM | 1) More information on the quori, Dal Quor, their invasion of Xen'drik, and their current activites (beyond the Inspired; such as mind seeds, influencing people in dreams, etc) 2) House Thuranni; the differences between them and House Phiarlan and more details of the Shadow Scishm. 3) Religions; preferably as seperate Dragonshards for each, but a two-in-one format would be acceptable. More about what is known to common people than the focus on what isn't known in the ECS. 4) Half-orcs must be at least as cool as the half-elves. Show us how. Tell us about orcs too. 5) The Mournlands; some details and description of what might be found there. |
| Zalaz Mavi03-28-05, 09:52 AM | 1) A sampling of Holidays observed by followers of the Sovereign Host; 2) Same as above, for Church of the Silver Flame; 3) the Lizardfolk of Q'barra; 4) For a series of multi-part Dragonshards: migration myths or legends of the PHB races. For example, the Human exodus from Sarlona to Khorvaire; the Dwarven exodus from Frostfell to the Mror Holds; and for the Elves, Xen'drik to Aerenal. Since the Past and treasure-hunting are such key elements to Eberron, the use of clues in an ancient myth to retrace the voyage of a particular race might make for an interesting group of adventures. Nothing specific mind, a synopsis or simple touching of the high points will do; 5) Cultural heroes. While this may be covered somewhat for the Valenar in Races of Eberron, it would be interesting to see the legendary heroes of the other races. The Halfling equivalent of the trickster "Jack;" the Dhakaani Hercules or Gilgamesh; etc. Again, just another element of Eberron's past to add spice and possibly adventure ideas to a campaign... |
| Endless_Helix03-28-05, 10:13 AM | 1. Valenar: Traditions, some sample ancestors, methods of war would be interesting, personages, Titles, more about the religion there is IMO a must. I'm planning on playing a Valenar fighter or samurai or possibly a cleric. 2. Blood of Vol: History, Holidays, Titles, more about the front presented to it's common practicioners, and some about their ulterior motives. 3. House Tharashk: History, important people, more importantly why aren't they setting up a monopoly on Dragonshards? More info on the clans please. 4. Politics of Khorvaire: Major players who aren't listed under Dm houses or Countries, their goals, and anything about the organizations they use. 5. The Daelkyr: Symbionts, history, really info Xoriat in general. |
| TranquilDarkness03-28-05, 11:29 AM | All your input is appreciated, Keith. Alot. :) 1. Dealing with the Dragonmarked Houses; how do they do their business? Each of them operates a monopoly - is there competition (allowed)? 2. Khorvaire, connected; how do the Nations and Houses of Khorvaire relate to each other? Who (dis)likes who? 3. How to make sense of religion; ..when anybody with any kind of conviction can use spells in anybodies name. How 'necessary' are the religions alongside the halfling House of Healing? 4. Aberrant dragonmarks; the cause, the power, the fury. 5. Warforged; anything and everything ;) |
| Liane the Wayfarer03-28-05, 12:17 PM | First of all, I'm going to assume you don't want to reiterate info that will show up in Races of Eberron or The Five Nations. (Granted, no matter how much information is in those books, people will want more about the same subjects, but this early on, I figure it's better to have variety than depth.) Given that, my picks in order: 1) Riedra and the Inspired. In the same basic format as the nations in The Five Nations. 2) More Dragonmarked Houses. I believe Sivis, Lyrandar, Orien and Cannith are more important, since they'll have a lot more interaction with most adventurers than some of the others. 3) Games People Play. Really, we need more on ordinary, everyday social life among the people of the various kingdoms so that we can get a feel for how different people are. I mean, secret societies are so prevalent on Eberron, I wonder if the children form secret societies/cliques with greater frequency than in our world. Perhaps articles could cover Music of the Five Kingdoms or Cuisine of the Five Kingdoms (since I doubt those subjects will receive much play in The Five Kingdoms book). 4) The Chamber. I think the dragons have one of the most interesting conspiracies, with lots of room for GM fiat, but I'm still curious about how you intend for it to appear in game. Plus, I expect it will show up the least in the modules. 5) The Geography of Khyber. Perhaps with some (relatively speaking) well-known features and perhaps some idea of the societies/cultures that exist nearest the surface. |
| Siberys03-28-05, 12:26 PM | I'd love These houses, in this order: 1. House Orien. 2. Cannith 3. Thuranni 4. Denieth 5. Vol 6. Lyrandar 7. Jorasco 8. Kundarak 9. Medani 10. Sivis 11. Vadalis 12. Tharashk 13. Ghallanda How's That? |
| Orion Polaris03-28-05, 12:32 PM | I'd have to say, if I had to choose three houses that would get Dragonshards, I'd want the following: 1.) Medani 2.) Orien 3.) Deneith A Dragonshard about BARDS. A Dragonshard about Lizardfolk. A Dragonshard about Yuan-Ti. A Dragonshard about Gnolls. I can't really think of any other Dragonshards I'd want right now, but I'll edit them in as I think of them. |
| ydirbut03-28-05, 12:44 PM | 1. Orcs 2. The Shadow Marches. 3. House Tharask. 4. The Gatekeepers. 5. The Maluk Ghaashkalaa |
| Tanvalis03-28-05, 12:51 PM | 1. Lyrandar 2. Airships, Stormships, the differences between the two, and what makes each better suited to what it's designed for 3. Stormhome, who's who? A MAP! What kinds of things could someone expect to find at the resorts? How well is it protected? (that'd be a GOOD one because now my group is having some items protected in Stormhome) 4. DRAGONHAWKS! |
| Siberys03-28-05, 12:58 PM | 4. DRAGONHAWKS! make that dragonhawks and Tribex! |
| polt03-28-05, 01:09 PM | Actually a Dragonshard on Xen'Drik would rock. With that human settlement there, and some info on what people do on Xen'Drik. |
| rune makei03-28-05, 01:54 PM | 1. As much detail as you care to give on the Argonth (including the other floating fortress mentioned). 2. A breakdown on all factions (including houses) in respect to how they relate or interact with each other. I ham having a hard time keeping up with every single faction and whether or not they work together, are the same, hate each other, etc... 3. More on the social acceptance of warforged. How a warforged makes his way in a mundane life instead of war. Are their pro-life groups and hatred groups that protest outside of the councle halls in Sharn? Or more on warforged in general such as how the creation forge process actually works. The lord of blades and their influences. 4. As much detail as you care to give on airships. Building, using, battling against, battling with, etc... 5. Dalkyre and the Qouri. Details, Details, Details. The Dragonshards are great. Thanks for taking the time to listen to the fans. |
| Kalanth03-28-05, 02:03 PM | 1. Most significant battle of the Last War other than the Mourning. 2. A write up of each dragonhouses role in the Last War. 3. Places of interest in Xen'drik 4. How to use both Sandstorm and Frostburn in Eberron. 5. and finally, How to use the Draconomicon in Eberron. |
| DwarvinJedi03-28-05, 02:16 PM | I would like to know about the individual cultures of the humans(and other races) from the different countries 1: Aundair 2: Breland 3: Karrnath 4: Cyre 5: Thrane |
| Altaris03-28-05, 02:26 PM | KB! Thanks for asking our input, it speaks of great wisdom and humility. (Or vast cleverness...) ;) In order: House Cannith - how the House of Making 'made it' and how they continue to be an economic empire. Information on the split, how and why occurred rather than a clear succession. More information on the prominent Cannith Heirs, especially Merrix and the rest in Sharn. What is the House's over all opinion on Warforged and the ramifications of the Treaty of Thronehold? Druid Sects - the politics of the various organizations, how they interact between themselves and with non-associated Druids. Half-Orcs - I'd like to see them more developed. This would be a great tie in to a 'Shard on House Tharashk. Minor Conveniences - I'd like to see some official items (fluff, rather than crunch) that make life in Eberron that much better. This could probably be better done in a general Eberron Items and Gear 'shard though. Giants - I'd love to see a 'Shard on the various Giant races, especially those who are sentient and including those presented in MMIII. I think to Death Giants and the Eldritch Giants have a great Eberronian potential. As for the content of this 'shard, I'd like to see some modern organizations, clans, etc that have an effect on Khorvaire (but who could be expanded by ourselves to Xen'drik.) |
| Sucros03-28-05, 02:46 PM | 1) Talenta Halflings please. 2) I'd like to second the call for a giants dragonshard, or series of. History, culture, where are they now, different races, ect. 3) Also, a town or city other than Sharn, just to have one more place with some extra info. 4) Next dragonmarked house dragonshard should be Medani. They're the house we know by far the least about. 5) A few of the Lords of Dust. (I suspect statting them would be too grand a scope though). I think they'd make great plot hooks. |
| JohnnyONeal03-28-05, 03:00 PM | Libris Mortis would deal with how the new domains/PrCs/Spells could be tied into the existing religions and organizations, one on Complete Whatever would look at the prestige and base classes presented in the book, and so on. People have already done a fine job converting some books on these very boards, but if you want my official take on things, name the books!I'd love to see conversions, though they're such a big topic that they could almost represent a second set of articles. Assuming you only have time (or wizards.com only has the money) for one series, here's what I'd like to see: 1. Lords of Madness 2. Complete Warrior 3. Complete Divine 4. Complete Arcane 5. Complete Adventurer 6. Draconomicon 7. Libris Mortis 8. Stormwrack 9. Frostburn 10. Sandstorm I'd like to see something on Lords of Madness because it seems such a logical purchase for Eberron fans, but some extra content woul be nice. I think the "Complete" books are important to tackle because so many people own them and class conversions are so consistently requested. (And Complete Warrior and Complete Divine are a bit harder to convert than the more generic Complete Arcane and Complete Adventurer.) |
| Blizzard_Bobsan03-28-05, 03:11 PM | Nothing new, but here are the ideas that I like: 1. Talenta Halflings 2. Eberron games (card games, board games, etc.) 3. The church of the Souvereign Host 4. More about the practical use of magic on Khorvaire (could use a better title) 5. Aberrant dragonmarks |
| KP9103-28-05, 03:29 PM | 1. Other nations Warforged. (Ex. One thread gave an example of an undead warforged. It does seem like each nation would have it's own custom forged) 2. Dragons of Argonnesan 3. Vol and her house 4. New items used for war. (Cannoth must have made hundreds of weapons) 5. Perhaps a little more on the drow (Less than normal dnd or Forgotten Realms but more than we have) |
| Kryptonian Scion03-28-05, 04:09 PM | 1. House Deneith 2. Conversion information for the Book of Vile Darkness - do the demon princes become shapechanged rajahs? 3. The Daelkyr and Xoriat, more examples of races that the Daelkyr have twisted into aberrations. Perhaps some conversion information after Lords of Madness is released (I am sure there will be alot that needs conversion). 4. The Dark Six - dogma, holy symbols, etc. 5. As mentioned by someone else, holidays, festivals, and other celebrations for not only the Five Nations but Mror, Valenar and the other races' countries. |
| Lady Morn03-28-05, 04:25 PM | I have just one request — a Dragonshard series to cover the oceanic nation that was cut from the Core book. |
| Earthbinder03-28-05, 05:01 PM | Oh holy Hellcow (batman), we thank you for shining your devine inspiration upon us by this request, and Humbled in your presence as we are to see upon the Shards of the Dragon we would like: 1. Some information on the giant that remain in Xen'drik: culture/level of Barbarisim/state of myth and legend about the "Glory days" 2. Some more stuff on Iconic monsters: Yuan-ti 3. information on the military structures of the remaining kingdoms, possibly some of the iconic units fielded by each kingdom (their SAS or Navy seal equivalents) 4. Day to day magic: the low powered stuff that the avg merchant on the street uses from Rituals to spells and items 5. cost for magical services and everyday items, how much dragon shards sell for, how much did House Cannith charge for a Warforged, what would it cost to build a lightning rail carriage, how much to run one, do they run mail trains (do train robbers exist) with greatest respect and admiration for you and the time you devote to us. Thanks |
| Dustin Fireblade03-28-05, 05:35 PM | 1. A Dhahaani clan (structure, leadership, lifestyle, etc) 2. History of the Dhakaan Empire 3. Anything else of the Dhakaani 4. um, I guess maybe something on the Valenar 5. Did I mention Dhakaan? :D |
| Restless03-28-05, 05:42 PM | 1. House Medani (There's sort of a lack of info on this house, IMO.) 2. Heros (or Anti-heros) of the Faith. Dosn't really matter which faith, I'd just like to hear more about some of the legendary heros of some of the faiths. Dons't really matter which god, they're all good. 3. Shadow Marshes 4. Khyber 5. The Rajahs I guess that's all I've got off the top of my mind. I sort of like seeing what you come up with, because it always goes in some totally unexpected direction, which is a nice suprise. (Like the Kobold article. I loved that one.) |

| Restless03-28-05, 07:11 PM | I've got a question for you Keith. (I know, the AKB thread, but this deals with what we're already talking about. If it dosn't get answered, I won't be suprised.) But, how much say do you actually get over the DS articles? Do you have to get them approved, or do you pretty much have complete say over what you do? |
| Hellcow03-28-05, 07:49 PM | But, how much say do you actually get over the DS articles? Do you have to get them approved, or do you pretty much have complete say over what you do? I have to get them approved. I am a freelance writer, after all. But they've only asked for significant changes once or twice. Usually they just catch my typos. ;) |
| Joni-san03-28-05, 08:26 PM | In no particular order: 1.) Half-Orcs (History, Culture and so on) 2.) Talenta Halflings (Ditto) 3.) House Lyrandar 4.) House Medani 5.) House Tharashk 6.) Warforged daily life (/The mark on their foreheads) 7.) House Orien Thank you for taking the time to take our requests :w00t: |
| Teron Gorefiend03-28-05, 08:28 PM | I have to get them approved. I am a freelance writer, after all. But they've only asked for significant changes once or twice. Usually they just catch my typos. ;) Can I ask what those changes were? |
| Raster03-28-05, 08:29 PM | Thanks for making this nice little thread for us Keith. Just another example of why you've become one of the most popular campaign setting designers in so short a time :D 1. Talenta Halfings. I've got a fondness for halflings and I'd really like to know more about the tribal little guys. 2. Eberron adaptation of the Thri-Kreen. While we don't necessarily need all of EPH races in Eberron, I'd really like to see these guys, and maybe Elans, Xephs, and Maenads adapted. 3.The Ghaash'kala. The Orcish followers of The Flame and guardians of the Demon Wastes keep catching my eye every time I flip through the setting book, and I'd really like to know more about them. 4.Thelanis. More description on Dolurrh and Lamannia would be great, but this is the plane I want to know about the most. 5. House Medani. I'll throw in my vote for this one, as I'm curious about it as well. I'd also really like to see dragonshards on some of the drudic sects, other religions, and the Emerald Claw, but I suppose you'll get around to all of it in good time. Meanwhile we'll all just have to speculate on what you've been racing deadlines for, and sit patiently hoping for hints until they come out ;) |
| Solarious03-29-05, 01:05 AM | So many things I want to see, so few spots! :weep: Oh well, I guess this is where I have to learn to prioritize. 1) Thenalis and the Greensingers! They're just there shivering in naked crunch! 2) House Thuranni! We know one side of ths split, now we need to know the other side of the candle. ;) And why they're split in the first place. 3) Games of Eberron! Tell is how the people of Khorvaire spend their time relaxing and smashing face with imaginary 'imaginary' figures. And wargames! We need those too. 4) The Traditions of the Kalashtar and their Culture. Alternatively, Psionic Traditions of the Kalashtar. Love to the least defined race in the world of Eberron! :w00t: 5) Traditions and Daily Life of Khorvaire. Come'on, we need to know how magic impacts daily life here! :) |
| Urko03-29-05, 01:18 AM | 1) House Tharashk 2) Half-Orcs 3) Celestials and the Planes they hail from (Thelanis, Syrania, Shavarath) 4) House Vadalis 5) Blood of Vol I would really, really, really, really prefer NOT to see conversion dragonshards. I'd rather get more development on Eberron fluff than articles that say "substitute 'Siberys Shard' for 'Green Star' in Green Star Adept" (I'm sure you would be more creative than that, but you get my meaning). Perhaps this could be a new series of articles, along the lines of Eberron Under the Glass? That said, I think indirect conversions, like the Umbragen being based around the Warlock and Soul Knife classes, are a great way to handle the subject. |
| Hellcow03-29-05, 01:36 AM | Can I ask what those changes were? I think you just did. |
| Hellcow03-29-05, 01:42 AM | Traditions of the Kalashtar. Love to the least defined race in the world of Eberron! :w00t: Bear in mind that this will all change in a week or two... |
| Fezwick03-29-05, 02:57 AM | I'd like to see a couple of dragonshard articles devoted to the other two goblinoid clans in Darguun, the Marguul and the Ghaal'dar. The Dhakaani dragonshard is great and gave me some insight in starting a goblinoid campaign. Just looking for a little more insight on the whole nation of Darguun in general. :) |
| talion0903-29-05, 03:08 AM | 1. Morgrave University 2. House Orien 3. Complete Warrior conversion (specifically the PRCs) 4. Complete Arcane conversion 5. Complete Adventurer Conversion I was tempted to ask for Stormreach as well, but I figure that it might be a taboo topic, since Xen'drik is supposed to be the "mysterious continent", right? |
| fuindordm03-29-05, 03:29 AM | I know I'm a little late on the bandwagon... 1. The religion of the Blood of Vol, as it is practiced by common folk. 2. Myths and Stories of the sovereign host. 3. Halflings of the Plains 4. History and Beliefs of the Children of Winter and Ashbound sects 5. The history of Aberrant Marks and the War of the Mark. I'd also like to cast an anti-vote against the conversion dragonshards. They're too easy, really, and I would hate for every jot and tiddle of the WotC sourcebooks to find a canonical place in Eberron. I'd like to cast a vote for shorter dragonshards rather than longer ones--I like to know I'm getting something new every other week. Sometimes that's not feasable, I know--it's nigh-impossible to do justice to some topics in one article. Thanks for soliciting feedback, Keith. Ben |
| Stainawarjar03-29-05, 08:06 AM | I feel I have to disagree with these conversion anti-votes. I'd love to see something about where selected classes and prestige classes from the "Complete" series fit into Eberron. But obviously not all of them, we don't have to see bear warriors and spellthieves. And don't forget, very few npc's actually qualify for prestige classes anyway. Still, didn't put conversion shards on the "top 5", so I can wait... |
| Pozas03-29-05, 08:49 AM | 1 - House Deneith (specially the Sentinel Marshalls, and how a PC could become one) 2 - Half-Orcs of Khorvaire 3 - Talenta Halflings 4 - Demon Wastes 5 - Climate and general geography (vegetation, etc) of Kohrvaire's nations (specially if you can give real-world parallels, like, say, Eldeen Reaches are similar to the Pacific Northwest US/Canada) |
| Talon Blackhart03-29-05, 08:56 AM | Ok, for my :twocents:: 1. Cyre (specifically, what kinds of people lived there, etc.. for character background creation) 2. The Mournlands 3. Daily life in Khorvaire 4. The Last War (Important Battles and Dates) 5. The Last War (Effects on Adventurers) And of course, I'd love to see conversion articles and articles on all of the Houses eventually... |
| PoeticJustice03-29-05, 10:21 AM | :) Wow, isn't Mr. Baker a nice guy. Even after winning the contest, he spends all his time writing material for it, and when he's not doing that, he giving it away for free. Keith's a real professional, kiddies! 1.Halflings of the Talenta Plains. 'nuff said 2.Getting around in the Shadow Marches personalities (I envision a couple of real shifty personas 'round them parts), travel dangers, places of interest, rates... 3.House Sivis 'Famous' intrigues, personalities, corruption, outlook, (I envision them as being a lot like Danny Devito, if that's not too mean.), business practices 4.Atur, city of the night IMO, this place has coolness on par with Sharn. I think it would interesting to seewhat kind of society springs up in such an unusual environ. Perhaps they don't share the typical Karrnathi repression? 5.Transportation Tragedies Dying en route is always sad, but some, like these, are tragic. Like the last train through Metrol on the Day of Mourning, one that raced the dead-grey mist and lost. The Bound Elemental that got free, slaughtered the crew, and flew off, leaving the passengers to die. The Thranish diplomat lost while on his way to negotiate peace with Cyre. These aren't simple victims of misfortune, these fates are truly pitiable. |
| PoeticJustice03-29-05, 10:28 AM | 4) The Traditions of the Kalashtar and their Culture. Alternatively, Psionic Traditions of the Kalashtar. Love to the least defined race in the world of Eberron! :w00t: I always thought the changeling held that honorific. Then again, they probably like it that way... |
| MavrickWeirdo03-29-05, 12:54 PM | I enjoy the Dragonshards very much. Most of the time I'm willing/able to make up background details myself, (the number of times I guess right is starting to get scarry) but there are a couple of details that escape me. 1. Origin of the Sovergn Host; It doesn't have to be factual, I would settle for some conflicting legends to explain where they come from. 2. When did house Pharlain and Valenar bard/priests split? 3. Aquatic Races (I know you have alot of underwater content you haven't used yet.) 4. Holidays 5. Minotaurs (I think the ECS mentioned them West of Breeland, but I could be wrong.) |
| DarkerDreams03-29-05, 01:13 PM | 1) house cannith. 2) schema/creation patterns 3) the details of the code of galifar (and its modern interpretations) 4) Karrnath 5) Droam 6) Darguun it's been noted elsewhere that lightning rails are going to be covered in depth with the explorer's handbook... otherwise I'd have put that in. (sorry I went over 5, but I was having a hard time picking on the last 2) |
| Hellcow03-29-05, 02:22 PM | 2. When did house Pharlain and Valenar bard/priests split? Well, since this has a quick answer, they never split; the Tairnadal always had their own bardic tradition. The point of the phiarlans is that they were wanderers who sought to understand and master the traditions of all of the elven cultures. But the Tairnadal always had their own dedicated bards focused purely on the history of the Tainrnadal heroes. 5. Minotaurs (I think the ECS mentioned them West of Breeland, but I could be wrong.) Not that this rules out a dragonshard, but yes, the primary place to find minotaurs is Droaam. |
| Tom McCarthy03-29-05, 03:31 PM | I don' think I can limit myself to 5. The giants' calendar and the sky above The traditions and history of the House of Vol How many 'warforged' exist from just before the breakthrough that 'created' sentient warforged and how are they seen ? Are they physically different ? Descriptions of the original Tarkanans, powerful aberrant marks, and the War of the Mark (probably multiple 'shards there) How rare are lycanthropes ? (I note there's quite a few in Whispers, which I know you didn't write) What are spies like from each of the nations of Khorvaire (or all Eberron) ? (This one might work better as an Under the Glass) If there were no psionics (how to run an Eberron campaign without using psionics games rules for kalashtar, quori, Inspired, etc.) |
| Teron Gorefiend03-29-05, 03:51 PM | I think you just did. No, no, I asked if I could ask. Wouldn't want to be rude, after all. Seriously, though, what were the changes imposed on what you wrote for the Dragonshards? |
| eridalafar03-29-05, 04:31 PM | 1- Relations between marked and unmarked peoples in a dragonhouses. 2- Perception in the dragonhouse when a dragonmark elvolve (ex: passing from lesser to greath or nothing to getting one), what change in the statut. 3- More information about the druid's sectes. 4- More information about the house Canith. Eridalafar |
| Niaslos FireCrow03-29-05, 05:03 PM | 1- An "avant-gout" of all your underwater/aquatic ideas that will surely pop out one day in a book (that I'll surely buy quickly since the campaign I run will go in this way when it will be higher level). Maybe a merefolks dragonshard? 2- Drows. 3- Talenta Halflings. I don't know if there is that much to say about them without overlapping Races of Eberron (which surely talk about them), but they're just so nice! Love the dinosaur-riding thing, I was a child when the first Jurasic Park went on cinema and had a big dinosaur-loving period, child I would have so much wanted to be a Talenta Halfling! 4- More on what peoples are supposed to know about some organisation (you made one article on that but it would be nice to have another one). I'm quite curious to know, for exemple, if a good informed Sharn's citizen (who keep reading the Korranberg Chronicle each day for exemple) would know about the Emerald Claws. 5- Gnolls. I can make myself an idea on them since what you wrote about them in the Droaam section of the ECS give quite an idea of their culture but it could be interesting to have more details (fluff fluff) about it. |

| Edymnion03-29-05, 08:33 PM | One that I see cropping up as a point of contention several times on the boards here. The Dragon Cities of Argonnessa ECS makes passing referance to the Dragons living in cities. Would these be cities in the way one normally thinks (many buildings in close proximity holding a high concentration of individuals), or are the dragon "cities" more like the sub-urbs, a lot of spread out territories that only really come together for matters of mutual interest? I'm personally on the side of the dragon metropolis where they're living in what we would think of as high civilization. Homes with rooms (on a grand scale), public facilities, etc, as that would imply that the Dragons are a much more tightly knit group capable of working as a single entity when so desired (as in, you tick off the dragons, you tick off ALL of the dragons, and they make their displeasure known). Other than that, I think the article that would be most useful (aside from the Half-Orcs and Halflings), would be Starting Locations other than Sharn. So many great cities and locations, but none with the support level of Sharn (obviously, Sharn has an entire book devoted to it). I'd like to see a select handful of other good cities to start a campaign in. Like Passage, for example. A dragonshard that basically says "Okay, you don't have to start in Sharn. Here's some other very interesting locations where you could find people of all walks of life ready to adventure!" I picked Passage for the example because it's a major stop on the Lightning Rail, its on an Orien Traderoute crossroad, and has good proximity to multiple nations, meaning it could easily serve as a great starting location, just there isn't much info about it to set things up. |

| Puppy03-29-05, 09:22 PM | Here's a cookie for you, Keith: :cookie: Just as a thanks for involving us in the process of making Eberron more exciting (as if that is possible). Here's the result of the Norwegian jury: 1. Argonessen (We know way too little about our big, scaly friends down under.) 2. Talenta Halflings (Think this has been requested by many, but I add my vote.) 3. The politics of the Inspired 4. More about the Last War (Especially famous battles.) 5. Also, although it's not classified as a Dragonshard, I would really like to see a small one off adventure. I noticed how none of the adventures on the WotC website are Eberron specific, and I would really want this to change. Thanks, man. Have another cookie: :cookie: |

| Ohtar Turinson03-29-05, 10:56 PM | 1. A broad outline of the ebb and flow of the last war- the shifts of alliances, the names of major battles (and perhaps sites and dates), etc. 2. An outline of pastimes and activities- board games for example, or other things like that. 3. More about the assorted universities, and what kind of person works there, how the departments are laid out, etc. And I'll second the question of what is common knowledge for the average city dweller; do they know about the Goblin Empire? Is the Emerald Claw Al Qaeda-esque in its infamy, or is it something only the military high ups worry about? |

The current preistess of the Silver Flame. 8. Possesion either Demonic or Quori. 9. Information on actual Dragonshards. (price, trade, uses, ect.) 10. You don't have to be specific but general so people can use these effects in their campaigns. 4. Along the lines of the Silver Flame one. 5. A basic overview of the place. This is so you get people wanting you to write a Sarlona sourcebook. I love your article in Dragon 330, on the Umbragen BTW. FenixZero |
| fhilbrandt03-30-05, 10:30 AM | 1. Geography of Xen'drik 2. General history of the Last War. 3. varous types of elemental vehicles, i.e., airships. 4. the market (costs, trade routes, sources) for dragonshards. |

| Euangelion03-31-05, 01:15 AM | 1. What really happened on the Day of Mourning 2. What kind of avatars the gods use when they walk around Eberron 3. The complete Draconic Prophesy 4. A detailed description of the geography of Xen'drik 5. A price list of healing spells offered by the temples Just kidding. For real: 1. Guidelines for using the new classes (scout, samurai, etc.) in Eberron and which ones (if any) don't really fit at all. 2. An expanded list of appropriate prestige classes from the one in S:CoT that includes more books and maybe some guidelines on adapting them 3. The Eldeen Reaches 4. The Ghaash'kala 5. More information on where certain creatures might be found in Eberron. It could be arranged by geological feature, such as the Byeshk Mountains or Lake Galifar. This would be helpful in creating Eberron-specific encounter tables instead of the sample ones in the DMG. |
| KathyNoland03-31-05, 05:22 AM | Thanks for asking us what do we prefer, Keith!! My :twocents: : 1. The last war: famous battles, famous heroes, development of all the hundred years of war, specialized units from all the armys... :teach: 2. About the druid's sects: specially Greensingers and Ashbounds, but also about the rest of them. All you can tell us about them (maybe something similar to what you are doing with Dragonmarked houses..) 3. Religions: specially the Sovereign Host and the Dark Six (but also the rest of them!) Something like the Church of the Silver Flames articles 4. Giants of Xen'Drik (something about their history, their different nations before the cataclism, the ruins they left...) 5. Legends of Khorvaire: Which kind of storys explain common people in the different nations (they don't have to be "real" just something as the King Arthur and the knights of the round table legends...) :fight!: ... and of course dragonmarked houses, more about nations who will not be in the "Five nations" book and of all the races (specially Talenta halflings) who will not be in the "Races of Eberron" book... :D And about all of them I prefer "flunch" better than "crunch" You're really great, Hellcow!! :cheer: |

| Setherial03-31-05, 08:24 AM | I would really like a steal this hook about the Daughters of Sora Kell, since we already had a DragonShard I now want more examples of how to actually use them. Anyway since your question was which Dragonshards to write and not hooks I'd be very intersted in more info about - The Chamber, how to use them, the average plot they get themselves involved in, etc... - The Quori, their invasion, their motivations, the Inspired and the Kalashtar atc... |
| KP9103-31-05, 06:16 PM | 5. Also, although it's not classified as a Dragonshard, I would really like to see a small one off adventure. | Lady Morn03-31-05, 08:33 PM | I'm forwarding a request from my boyfriend. He is interested in seeing a "Dragonshard" covering a small lexicon of words from the Elven, Goblinoid and Draconic languages. Something to help in creating place names and names of organizations in such places as Darguun, Valenar and Q'barra. He liked that the glossary in the Dreaming Dark novel contained a few words in the Goblinoid and Halfling languages, but would like to see more. Thanks! |
| Kobold Avenger03-31-05, 08:52 PM | Things I would like to see... 1. The Daelkyr (such as a few names) and the true extent of there influence. 2. Forbidden Lore, of the Lords of Dust. 3. House Thuranni, complete with more hints on why they split with Phiarlan. 4. Orcs of Eberron, and their ancient culture. 5. A glance at Sarlonna, maybe a bit on Reidra or Adar, or what else is one the continent. |
| MrFilthyIke03-31-05, 09:08 PM | 1. Pirates of the Carrib...um, Lhazaar Principalities. ;) 2. Orc (and Half-Orc) Druidism and Sects 3. | Hellcow03-31-05, 09:27 PM | Thanks for all the input, and keep it coming. As I've said before, Dragonshards are written a long time in advance, so don't expect the next few to take this into account. And, of course, there are some subjects *I* want to write about more than others, either because I have more ideas about the topic or feel that it's important to establish a piece of information. But learning what people want to see is valuable feedback, and certainly some of your requests are already in the line-up. Sadly, no-one's asked for next week's topic - other than indirectly - but hey, you win some and lose some. |
| MrFilthyIke03-31-05, 09:31 PM | Sadly, no-one's asked for next week's topic - other than indirectly - but hey, you win some and lose some. I'll take ANY Eberron hand-outs. You rock Keith. :cheer: :dancin: |

Insert the following between the second and third sentences: "But enforced alignment is a symptom of lycanthropy, and an evil weretiger will pass his alignment to his children or victims." Thus, "an evil strain" refers to a line of lycanthropy predisposed towards evil alignments. |
| InfinityStar804-04-05, 02:17 AM | Well, thank you anyway Master Cow! |
| Silent Infinity06-22-05, 02:49 AM | Thanks for the opportunity to make a request or two, Keith. I loved the two on the Aerenal elves. I'd like to see: 1. The Umbragen, specifically more about their culture and history and growth as a people. (I understand this must be difficult to do given the nature of the Dragonshard game but I am very interested in the Umbragen). 2. The Shadow Plane of Eberron. 3. The Deathless of Eberron. Deathless of other nations, deathless animals of Aerenal, etc. 4. The dimensional seals used by the Gatekeepers, specifically those within the Eldeen Reaches. 5. The Gatekeepers sect, specifically recent activities in the Eldeen Reaches. |
| phoenxhwk06-22-05, 10:44 AM | 1) House Canninth! 2) Khorvaire-wide holidays 3) Wide magic (and how to get the feel in a campaign) 4) The Aurum 5) Current status of the Last War (i.e., where is there still skirmishing, what's Karrnath's deal, etc) |
| Hellcow06-22-05, 10:49 AM | Good to have this bumped - I've been meaning to take another look as I write my next batch. 1. The Umbragen, specifically more about their culture and history and growth as a people. (I understand this must be difficult to do given the nature of the Dragonshard game but I am very interested in the Umbragen). Just making sure... Did you read the Umbragen article in Dragon, a few months back? I dont know if you're asking for an expansion on that, or if you didn't know there already was an Umbragen article. |
| Silent Infinity06-22-05, 11:14 AM | Good to have this bumped - I've been meaning to take another look as I write my next batch. Just making sure... Did you read the Umbragen article in Dragon, a few months back? I dont know if you're asking for an expansion on that, or if you didn't know there already was an Umbragen article. Yes, I have read it. Loved the article. I find the umbragen fascinating as they have bargained with dark powers for the ability to fight the denizens of Khyber. I'd love to hear/read more about their culture and people. Thanks again. |
| poeticyde06-22-05, 11:45 AM | Which issue of Dragon was the Umbragen article in? I would like to try and find a back copy of it. Thanks! |
| Silent Infinity06-22-05, 11:59 AM | Which issue of Dragon was the Umbragen article in? I would like to try and find a back copy of it. Thanks! Issue #330. The cover art of that particular issue is quite appetizing. Bruce Cordell also has an article on the Far Realm (i.e. adaptable to Xoriat for Eberron) in that issue. |

| MT-296 "Dagger"06-22-05, 12:32 PM | #1. More Lycanthrope information ((A day in the life, Culture, etc...)) #2. The Purge. ((How long did it last? how many Lycanthropes were left? etc... #3. Shifters ((see number #1 on the list)) #4. The Chamber ((What kind of plots do they engage in? A typical member of the group..)) #5. Eberron Dragons in general #6. The Draconic Prophecy #7. More on Valenar customs, battle styles, culture, Patron Ancestors #8. More on the Undying Court! Gah I could keep listing things until my fingers cramped. And thank you Mr. Baker for making this request of us Eberron fans. |
| ChronosCrow06-22-05, 12:52 PM | #6. The Draconic Prophecy The Draconic Prophecy (http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=dnd/ebds/20041227a) He already did one on that subject. Incedently it's my favorite one and I think I remember it being a real fan favorite too. |
| Mr. Wilson06-22-05, 02:20 PM | 1. Important Battles of the Last War and a basic overview of it. 2. Want to say Karrnath, but will wait for the 5 Nations book. Instead, how about Games in Eberron. 3. The Current political web of the 12(13) Nations, and the most likely alliance structure if the Last War starts up again. 4. Info on the Universities of Khorvaire (I was sad there was so little in Sharn) 5. The Blood of Vol- Why are they so bad? (Honestly, I can't figure it out. Given the choice between obliteration into nothingness and Undeath, I'm taking Undeath every time.) |
| Silent Infinity06-22-05, 02:43 PM | 5. The Blood of Vol- Why are they so bad? (Honestly, I can't figure it out. Given the choice between obliteration into nothingness and Undeath, I'm taking Undeath every time.) It's one thing to live beyond your mortality, its another thing entirely to survive by feeding off of the lives of others. Vampires are a prime example. Negatively charged undead are often mindless if they aren't cruel, diseased or egomaniacal. Deathless, however, are a beacon of undeath prolonged by a wellspring of positive energy. I know which way I'd rather go... Hence, my further interest in the Deathless of Eberron. (Granted, vampires don't HAVE to drink blood to survive in D&D terms. I've always had a problem with that personally.) |
| Mula06-22-05, 03:09 PM | In no particular order preference: The people of the Shadow Marches Halflings of the Talenta Plains House Medani Hellcow, you’ve mentioned that when creating the setting, the design team (or at least you) had plans to properly incorporate aquatic cultures in Eberron. Any chances we might see a related dragonshard? |
| ChronosCrow06-22-05, 03:14 PM | (Granted, vampires don't HAVE to drink blood to survive in D&D terms. I've always had a problem with that personally.) If you go by the Libris Mortis they do require blood in a sense. By day it gets harder and harder to withstand the pull for blood. Eventually the checks to resist become astronomical, the vampire either will die or will go insane and will be consumed by the inner self and feed will function with thought and it's first task will be to find a victim and feed no matter the situation, who it is or what else is going on. I think after that the vampire comes back to their senses. |

| Shades06-22-05, 05:15 PM | I need to read through the whole thread before I make my suggestions, but first I thought I'd bring up a possible idea for you to choose the dragonshard order of appearance. Run polls on your website. You could list all the dragonshards that are ready to go up and have people vote, and then post them on the site in order of which got the most votes (Conditional on how much you yourself want to post them) Could do it in waves. Polling is a great way to test things. You could pull suggestions from here and run pulls to see how many others would be interested in that same thing. Anyway, think about it. Damn. Again another thing that makes me want to get back into the webmaster hobby. Oi. |
| Splendide06-22-05, 08:44 PM | A Zil bardic college Halflings of Talenta House Tharashk - are they (and half-orcs) as naive as I imagine them to be? Why gnomes use the dwarven alphabet |
| Hellcow06-22-05, 09:18 PM | I need to read through the whole thread before I make my suggestions, but first I thought I'd bring up a possible idea for you to choose the dragonshard order of appearance. Run polls on your website. Personally, I think that's an excellent idea. The only question is whether my trusty webmistress, Honeycakes, knows how to implement a poll - because goodness knows I don't. :( |
| ChronosCrow06-22-05, 09:29 PM | Personally, I think that's an excellent idea. The only question is whether my trusty webmistress, Honeycakes, knows how to implement a poll - because goodness knows I don't. :( I'm very willing to bet people would be very happy to help her out if she asks for it or needs it. I know a bit myself, but who knows. |
| donpepe06-22-05, 09:39 PM | we had dwarves, weve got a lot of elven stuff, weve got the gnomes, weve got the half-elves, weve got goblinoids: But what about halflings!! here are my votes 1-haflings from talenta or jorasco or ghallanda 2-house thuranni! my favorite house 3-house deneith, i think that keith likes deneith a lot 4-house cannith (same thing) 5-Cyre! or Mournland with Cyre! |
| WizO_Sith06-22-05, 11:44 PM | 1) The common culture of Galifar as it was before the Last War. What were the ideals and values that the culture held in esteem? 2) The level of cultural/intellectual development of the various nations (although I'm primarily interested in Breland)... what ideas have they discovered/embraced (i.e. Have they discovered the Scientific Method? Have they stumbled across ideas like mass-production? Do they hold that there are inalienable rights of any kind?) 3) The Serens facinate me, I can never get enough info about them. 4) What was the Coatl culture like during it's heyday? What do the few remaining Coatl do to record/preserve that culture? 5) I'd love to see more development of the Draconic Culture of Argonessen... how do they govern themselves? What laws do they hold? What does their culture value? |
| Runeweaver06-22-05, 11:56 PM | I'd love to see Dragonshards on: 1. Church of Aureon 2. Sorcerors of Ebberon 3. The Twelve 4. House Medani 5. Greensinger Druids Hellcow - thanks for all your work on the Dragonshards - they are great and very much appreciated. |
| Jar Head06-23-05, 01:09 AM | How about Serens Part II? And more about goblins! |
| EscherEnigma06-23-05, 01:25 AM | 1. talenta plains. How they were involved in the war (did the plains become one big battlefield between Karnath and Cyre, and eventually Karnath, Cyre, and Valenar?) 2. pre-mourning Cyre (pre war also) 3. Stormreach. That port city in Xendrik. 4. Karnnath. That one city on the giant tower thing... 5. the trade and travel network developed by House Lyrander and House Orien. Perhaps an 'official' chart (like those ones in a really good road atlas) that shows the distance (along the travel routes) between locations. There are a few unofficial ones floating around on the boards, but an official one would be good. |
| Manshara06-23-05, 02:02 AM | Talenta Halflings (pleeeeeeeeease) Druid sect (no preference) |
| SirBruce06-23-05, 02:22 AM | 1. A full planetary overview of Eberron, including a full globe map rather than the truncated one we see, and specifics on how the Ring of Siberys orbits and the moons as well. 2. Anything specific on places in Xen'drik -- names of the major terrains we know of (jungle, desert, mountains), known ruins, other settlements, etc. 3. Anything specific on Stomreach. 4. Anything specific on places in Frostfell -- again, any major terrain features, ruins, past history, etc. 5. More info on the Rhakshasa, how they operate, etc. Bruce |
| Jagermeister06-23-05, 03:14 PM | 1.) House Vol- (What they were like prior to their supposed destruction, suggestions for having the Mark of Death reappear, etc.) 2.) The Aurum 3.) The Gatekeepers 4.) The Lords of Dust 5.) The Order of the Emerald Claw |

| super-ninja-squirrel-king06-23-05, 05:37 PM | 1. how high society works in eberron(or sharn, just to keep it focused) 2. ecology of the dinosaurs(talenta specifically, because they also have the variable of the halflings etc. 3. going along with #1- describe an entire high-society party(including schedule of performances, etc), and the purpose of the party, major figures present(and purposefuly absent) and what each persons agenda is, and what it really is, assassination plots, secret courtships, alliances whispered in the dark.... i suppose i might want to do this one myself, or suggest it as several.... meh, whatever |
| SirBruce06-23-05, 06:43 PM | What happened to my post? :( To repeat, I think, here is what I asked for: 1. Any specifcs on Xen'drik - geography, types of terrain, named places, other settlements, known ruins, etc. 2. Any specifics on Stomreach. 3. Any specifcs on Frostfell. 4. A more detailed of Eberron's planetary cosmology - a full map of the world globe, an explanation of how the Ring of Siberys orbits, along with the various moons, etc. 5. More information on the Rhakshasa, how they operate, and what they might be planning. Bruce |
| greatfrito06-25-05, 02:42 PM | Well, I'd like to throw a vote in for either pre-war or pre-Mourning Cyre. It looks as though the nation won't be getting any real coverage in Five Nations (which kinda makes me laugh... is the Mournland really a "Nation" now?), and Cyre interests me second out of the five (Karrnath being number one). |
| DoveArrow06-25-05, 03:36 PM | Keith, you never cease to amaze me at how much you appreciate the individual fans of Eberron. This thread is just another example of what amazes me, and I, for one, would like to say thank you. Now, with those warm words of affection in mind, onto my demands for dragonshards! :P 1) The halflings of the Talenta Plains (I have a player who is having trouble getting into the mindset of Eberron halflings. Plus, they're really cool.) 2) Cyre before the Day of Mourning (I think it would be nice if characters could have some idea of what Cyre was like before it became the Mournlands. You know, things like what the government was like, what Metrol looked like, etc. After all, it wasn't that long ago that Cyre was the jewel of the Five Nations. Characters could have visited there or even lived there before the nation was destroyed.) 3) The nobility of Karrnath (this country has been sadly overlooked, but just reading up on it in the ECS, it looks like it probably has some really interesting stuff going on there. I'd actually like to know as much about Karrnath as you can give me, but I think it's probably easier to do a dragonshard on the nobility than it is to do it on the whole country.) 4) Lifestyles of the rakshasa both then and now (for selfish reasons. I'm trying to make them a larger part of my campaign). 5) The Knights of Galifar (this isn't something that I'm particularly interested in, but it's been all over the AKB thread, so I thought I'd throw it out there.) P.S. If you don't mind telling us before this thread closes, I think it would be neat to see a top five list of the suggestions you've decided to write about. |
| cowthulhu06-28-05, 01:50 AM | 1. The Order of the Emerald Claw (I have to admit I like #2 a bit more, but these guys are by far “in my opinion” the best insert evil people here group. The make great recurring villains, and help with the noir theme.) 2. The Greensingers (The most unique group of druids to come around among the most well made druids in any campaign setting. The lecherous anime monk comes to mind when I think of these guys for some reason. :D ) 3. The Blood of Vol (A fascinating group that can be the base for a interesting PC or party) 4. The Aurum (In the same way that the Order of the Emerald Claw are great in a simple way, these guys make great subtle antagonist. On a good note, they seem to be less of a gigantic threat to their opposition when compared to the Lords of Dust or Dreaming Dark. On a side note, the Dreaming Dark would be here if they weren’t already detailed in the Races of Eberron.) 5. The elemental binding faction of the Drow (I just like the Drow, it’s that simple and these guys are the only group without a write up) |
| BloodyRoots06-28-05, 02:00 PM | 1) Stormreach (A 3 part dragonshard or how about a book early next year?) 2) Barbaric Giants (in the vicinity of stromreach!) 3) House of Vol 4) Fiends of kyber (and how they relate to other inhabitants, aberrations/dealkyr, of kyber) 5) House Cannith |
| MartM06-28-05, 05:41 PM | The Excoriate A dragonshard about Famous excoriate, telling what do must do a House member to be excoriated and giving Houses specific rules, if any. |
| Wizardman06-29-05, 01:39 AM | 1) Halflings of the Talenta Plains (Hobbits on dinosaurs! Hobbits on dinosaurs! Sorry) 2) House Thuranni (although this might be the last House to do, having Phiarlan and Thuranni serve as bookends) 3) House Cannith (if any House is just waiting to be mined...) 4) Denizens of the Demon Wastes (Carrion, Ghaash'kala, and fiends) 5) The Path of Light (forgive me if this was covered in RoE). All that said, I agree with the general cry of 'whatever more you want to give us is great!' |
| Kesh07-01-05, 09:55 PM | Gnolls. :D |
| NathanD07-02-05, 11:53 AM | 1) Magic Item Creation. Examples of patterns, schema, and forges used by house Cannith. 2) Everyday Magic. In use or can be found in any shop or marketplace or dropped on the street when someone takes out his or her house key. 3) Dragonmarked privileges and responsibilities in various houses (Cannith). Thanks for the dragonshard on Warforged |
| Eberron_fan07-03-05, 07:45 PM | 1) How dragonshards are infused with magic and what magic?(This may be covered in the ECS but if not then heres my question) 2) The different parts that can be used in Warforged creation 3) Who made the first warforged? 4) Besides half elves what other races can be halved?(Example: can a changeling and a shifter breed can there be a half shifter half changling race? 5) When did drgaonshards first come to be?(Yes could be grouped with my #1 and also may be found in the ECS but if not still can be my #5) |
| Hellcow07-03-05, 08:45 PM | 2) The different parts that can be used in Warforged creation I don't understand what you mean by "parts". Are you talking about the creation forges? Limbs? Materials? 3) Who made the first warforged? If you mean "Why are there docents and other warforged components in Xen'drik", this is another of those myseries that I would like to leave open to interpretation, and which may very well have more than one right answer. I know ONE answer, and it will come out at some point, but it shouldn't prevent DMs from coming up with other answers... and it's also not the sort of thing I'd like to just spell right out. It is one of the greatest mysteries of the warforged, and I don't want to just bring it to a close, especially in a dragonshard (since let's face it, the vast majority of Eberron players never see Dragonshards). 4) Besides half elves what other races can be halved?(Example: can a changeling and a shifter breed can there be a half shifter half changling race? In my opinion, you cannot have a half-changeling, half-shifter, half-kalashtar, or half-elf. Half-orcs and half-elves are the only half-races I use in my campaign. But with that said, changelings already ARE a hybrid race. Originally we considered more options suggesting changelings of different descent - so a changeling that is of dwarf-doppelganger descent and opposed to human-dop - this could still be an interesting thing to represent through use of feats. 5) When did drgaonshards first come to be? As far as anyone knows, they came into existence when the world was created. It's up to you to decide if you believe that the world was created from the bodies of three dragons or formed in some other way. |
| Eberron_fan07-03-05, 08:59 PM | In my second question yes I meant what are the different materials used in warforged creation, my 3rd question was simply who was the first person to collect the materials needed to make a warforged, as far as my 4th and 5th questions go thanks for answering them. And I am sorry if some of my questions were confusing I tried to ask them in an understandable way. |
| Hellcow07-03-05, 09:57 PM | In my second question yes I meant what are the different materials used in warforged creation, my 3rd question was simply who was the first person to collect the materials needed to make a warforged... Hmm. I'm still not sure I understand. How is this different from this week's Dragonshard, which talks about Aaren d'Cannith and the physical makeup of the warforged? |
| Eberron_fan07-03-05, 10:38 PM | It may be bacause I haven't read this week's :( but I think I will now, sorry about wasting time |
| chi'iry07-04-05, 10:58 AM | I would appreciate the following themes in a dragonshard article: 1) The Psionic of Eberron which doesnt have a Quori origin. For instance the madening powers of Xoriat or the evil ones of the Lords of Dust. 2) Seers and the Prophecy. How does the prophecy interacts with divination. I have seen the Dragonshard about the prophecy but I would like to see more specific info about how the porphecy would interact with an seer PC. 3) The Darkest Secrets of the Dragonmarked Houses. This could be something like the necromantic experiments of Jorasco or the war crimes of Deneith. 4) Khyber and its Horrors 5) The Ring of Syberys |
| Twiggly the Gnome07-04-05, 11:25 AM | I'd like to see a 'shard about the Greensingers and the Courts of Thelanis. |
| LewisLlynn07-04-05, 03:34 PM | ORCS & HALF-ORCS: I want to know what makes 1) half-orcs in Eberron different from the "wandering misfits with bad social skills" half-orcs in other settings and 2) what major cultural differences there are between half-orcs and full blood orcs. I know you've given a lot of thought as to what you can do to make every race unique and special (even kobolds), but up until now I've seen orcs/half-orcs a little bland and generic. Thanks so much for all this work you put into the setting, Keith. |
| Sakeninja07-04-05, 06:28 PM | Keith! this is great. You have achieved #1 in my book. I have noticed a lot of people mentioning the Talenta Halflings, which would be fine. But i would like to address House Medani. The Dragonmarked Houses section in the ECS is detailed enough for me to grasp the basic concepts of the houses and how they should be used for my campaign. However, House Medani is severly lacking compared to the other houses. They get a paragraph (it seems) where other houses get a column. I understand they are sentires and bodygaurds, but this seems to overlap with the Defenders Guild of house Deneith. I understand Medani is more focus on detection and Deneith on protection. But with the limited info on Medani i can't even see the point of using them when Deneith is actually more suited as bodygaurds( unless they spot for Deneith, but then it would seem Medani is dependent on Deneith). I think this house could be very interesting. As a last note. I see a lot of people asking for info on Xendrick. I greatly appreciate how open and unexplained you have left this area. It has been invaulable to me as a DM. I can drop so many adventures there with little adjustment (i can finally use me piles of Dungeon magazine much more easily). Please continue and don't expand here. I value its pristine nature. That said...I love this place...you have done a wonderful job so far and i understand how complicating world building is....especially when you make that world available to the world :) Cheers! |
| tzeraph07-05-05, 08:37 AM | More information about the sovereign host. :) Perhaps some info about the Paladins in the host, the rules and regulations and holy laws that they (hopfully) abide by. |
| Silent Infinity07-05-05, 11:03 AM | I would greatly appreciate a Dragonshard on the worship of the Dragon Above. If there is a formal church, it is probably relatively loose, isn't it? I imagine many mystic theurges worship Aureon or the Dragon Above. Since Clerics of the Dragon Above can choose any two domains (though alignment restriction applies to domains, pg 35 ECS) I am greatly interested to hear/read what you envision for the church/its worship. Thanks Keith. I hope your current week in transit is pleasant, haha. |
| Guide D'Jorasco07-05-05, 06:34 PM | I would like to see a Dragonshard written specifically about House Jorasco. The Talentian Halflings are nomadic mostly, yet many of the inns and such are run by the marked Halflings with the Mark of Hospitality and Healing. Why are Nomadically inclined Halflings, running around Sharn and the other major cities? What would be the incentive of such an act and what would be the negatives? |
| Northwest07-07-05, 01:10 PM | 1) Accounts of the various druid sects. Their perspective on the last war and Day of Mourning, how they interact with each other and the various nations and Houses. 2) The last major event to hit Khovair due to one of the planes being cotemporous (sp). |
| Missekat07-07-05, 02:36 PM | Im completely parched for info or just inspiration on: DRAGONSHARDS themself!! I want more ideas, uses, the look of the things, how they fit into the whole prophecy thingy, (and somehow i suspect they do), more magic involving them, rituals, artifacts, locations to find them, people to fight or trade for them etc.. GATEKEEPERS, more culture, hooks, personality, their opinion on the Eldeen Wolves, (mentioned in an article in the Sharn Inquisitive), and a description of the physical appereance and the spells binding just one or two portals. THE LOOK OF SHARN itself.. what do you see when you enter a given ward? Im not completely satisfied with the descriptions i get from the Sharn: city of Towers supplement. Im a very visual person and need more pictures. Especially if im to visualise somthing like a city made of towers :-) FORT ZOMBIE/FORT BONES and the other undead fortifications of Karrnath. The concept rocks and id love to throw them at my, (rather conservative), players sometime. They're allready choking on the thought of a lawful government using undead :-D THE GIANTS and their culture. Im running the Emerald Grasp scenario as soon as my players are high enough lvl, and im fascinated with Xen'drik and the thought of so much history just lying there, waiting to be explored. |
| Horathgar07-08-05, 05:58 AM | I'm thinking much that doesn't involve other books too much. Basic way of life for citizens of the different countries, before and after the war. 1. What ways has Trade been effected by the last war. can we expect to see any embargos? (leading to more smuggling among the countries). 2. What was life like for citizens during the last war? Before? After? Was there a draft? was there terrorism? (some of these questions might be answered already, but i don't remember). I know there was some terrorism in eldeen in one of your past articles. 3. Different cultural pasttimes? games? logical puzzles/games (like chess, or chinese checkers)? 4. A little hint as to what the heck Xen'drik is all about. Just enough to make it remain a huge mystery, but just interesting enough to make my PC's want to go there at all costs. 5. The tribes of the Talenta Plains, their lifestyles? Are there cannibals? What kind of money might be used by Talenta folk, being that this probably won't be gone in depth in the Five nations. Possibly the Extreme explorer. I'd like a nice teaser/sneak peek at what you guys are planning with this wilderness. |
| Isran_Imrador07-12-05, 04:51 PM | Hey Keith.. Updating my Shard want list.. Stormreach (It got higher that Lyrandar :) ) Lyranadar Gatekeepers Q`barra Deathguard / The Undying Court.. |
| Psymnotica07-12-05, 05:38 PM | My top 5 choices of Dragonshard articles: The Talenta Plains: The nomadic halflings & their culture (of course!), the dinosaurs, more on Lathon Halpun & Holy Uldra, more on the ancient history of the place (such as in regards to Krezent & the Boneyard). The Blood of Vol: Their public beliefs in everyday life, their private philosophy, their organizational structure, secrets, noteworthy individuals, unique magic. The Sovereign Host: Their ideology of the universe & the afterlife, the believed history of the gods, famous saints/ holy people, infamous sinners/ heretics/ apostates, noteworthy individuals, important holy days, important texts, noteworthy sects. The Dark Six: As above with the Sovereign Host. House Thuranni: The history, the reason for the split with House Phiarlan, how their methodology differs from their rivals, the Shadow Network, noteworthy individuals, secrets. |
| KingNeo07-18-05, 03:26 AM | 1. The history between the elves of Aerenal and the dragons of the Argonnessen. Why they hate each other, what started their hated, stuff like that. 2. The War of the Mark. The history between it, the major events, and its rise and fall. 3. Stuff on the races of Xen'drik and its monsters, mainly the Drow and the giants. 4. The life and history of the people of Sarlona. 5. Stuff about the Gatekeepers and creatures of the other planes. Thanks for listening. |
| megamania07-18-05, 08:24 AM | Top five updated...... 1. Reports of what explorers are finding in Xen drik and thus ran away from the lost lands. (I was thinking a nation of undead but I'm uncertain) 2. Shadow Marshes.... Looking for reasons / inspiration to adventure there that couldn't be done just anywhere 3. Something involving the Sahuagin and the ocean / sea. There has been a lot of hints and suggestions of warforged salvation workers of sunken ships. What kind of ships and what kind of threats? 4. Frostfell... I'm taking my party there this fall in search of a lost Cannith testing area for the creation of Warforged. What else could be there? 5. Aurum. There is so little known about the Aurum and they could be a bigger generic threat than the Emerald Claw. Who are members and why. I know I kinda answered some of these myself but I'm looking for more to flesh it out that may be "official" material. |
| Luckblade07-20-05, 02:05 AM | I think you should write about how this world is more than just a"build big and Kill all" game. I have played almost all of the worlds since 1980 and I keep seeing the same thing. Build the toughest ass kicker and spend no time getting to know the world. As the designer, you should defend your baby and let gamers know the richness of your world. Luckblade Hey. |
| Niaslos FireCrow07-20-05, 01:39 PM | One request: -Your underwater ideas for Eberron. |
| MrFilthyIke07-20-05, 05:28 PM | One word: Darguun :) |
| Altaris1307-20-05, 06:13 PM | KB! As for the content of this 'shard, I'd like to see some modern organizations, clans, etc that have an effect on Khorvaire (but who could be expanded by ourselves to Xen'drik.) Hey again KB! My original post was some time ago, but my choices haven't changed. :D I would mostly love to see the Shard on Giants. That would just kick butt! |
| Hellcow07-20-05, 06:23 PM | One word: Darguun :) Well, since I HAVE done one on the Heirs of Dhakaan already, this will have to wait until after the Shadow Marches and Talenta Planes. But Droaam and Darguun are both regions I'd like to explore further, so no worries. |
| Hellcow07-20-05, 06:24 PM | I would mostly love to see the Shard on Giants. That would just kick butt! This is something we've been thinking about a bit. One way or another, you'll see some giant info at some point in the future! |
| Hellcow07-20-05, 06:25 PM | Thanks for all of your input. There's lots of good ideas here - I just wish I had time to write 'em all. |
| Silent Infinity07-20-05, 08:45 PM | This is something we've been thinking about a bit. One way or another, you'll see some giant info at some point in the future! Mmm, perhaps in the Explorer's Handbook? Y'never know... I think getting a celestial/fiendish perspective on life on Eberron would be nice. We have a general idea, of course, but gaining some ingisht of the general goings-on, behaviors, activities of the creatures in Ashtakala, the planes, the hidden lairs within Sharn, etc. would be interesting. Just a point of perspective for interests' sake. |
| Pistilpeach07-26-05, 05:22 PM | 1. Cyre/Cyrans. There's really not enough info in Five Nations. 2. Riedra/Sarlona. 3. Sports. 4. Stormreach. 5. Halflings of the Talenta Plains. |
| Grug the Just07-28-05, 11:37 PM | Two I neglected to put in last time. 1. The City of Gray Wall. (Pretty straight forward, I read a bit about it and it seemed awesome. I imagine the illithid mayor with a top-hat and monocle. Also, its proximity to Sharn makes it almost necessary to talk about.) 2.The Afterlife. (This one has been buggin' me. I havn't looked on the "Ask Keith Baker Thread" for an answer to this one yet. Due to the daunting challenge of reading through it all to possibly get an answer something along the lines of, "Just like the mystery of what happened on the Day of Mourning, we leave this in the hands of the GM." **Glares at Wizard's Staff for removing the, ever necessary, search function** And don't get me wrong I don't mind making stuff up, but I'd prefer something more...substanstial.) |
| MrFilthyIke07-29-05, 05:41 PM | I know that WotC wants to leave Xendrik blank, but can we at least get ideas for Stormreach?? |
| Charles Phipps07-29-05, 06:45 PM | I like to see some info on the Illuminati...err Aurrun. |
| Hellcow07-29-05, 06:48 PM | I know that WotC wants to leave Xendrik blank, but can we at least get ideas for Stormreach?? Certainly (When, I can't say, but yes, this is a subject you'll see more on). |
| Charles Phipps07-29-05, 06:53 PM | Certainly (When, I can't say, but yes, this is a subject you'll see more on). Whoo! I hope we'll also see more on those whacky Reidrans. |
| Hellcow07-29-05, 07:00 PM | 2.The Afterlife. Are you talking about Dolurrh, the Silver Flame, the Keeper, or the "what happens to a soul after Dolurrh" theories? If the latter, it's not something I have any plans to elaborate on, because there's no way to know. Many followers of the Sovereign Host say that the fading of memory in Dolurrh represents the transition of the true soul to a higher plane - the domain of the Sovereigns. But the key of that is "higher plane" - some place that cannot be contacted, cannot be traveled to, and cannot be reached by any means, and is unlike any of the known planes. Thus, it is a matter of faith. Those who believe in it trust that they will be rewarded for their actions in life. The BoV says that death is doom and erradicates your actions in life, which is why it must be fought at all costs. The truth is up to you - but from a game level, it doesn't matter, because it can't be proven one way or the other. Believe what you wish to believe. And for what it's worth, this is one of those cases where commune answers are structured to further the purposes of the force contacted. Using commune, a cleric of the Silver Flame will be told "The faithful join the Flame." A priest of the Blood is told "Fight the soul's destruction". A priest of the Sovereigns will be told "Only the dead may know." |
| deClench07-30-05, 11:45 PM | I would be most interested in evil organizations. Most specifically the Lords of Dust but also the Cults of the Dragon Below and anything more on the Dreaming Dark would be great too. As for regions, I find Q'barra to be of greatest interest to me but would also care to see the Talenta Plains, the Blade Desert, and the Demon Wastes. Of course, anything more on Sarlona would be great too. :) Additionally I would like to see more on the druidic traditions: especially the Children of Winter and the Moonspeakers. While we're at it, more on fey and Thelanis and the Greensingers. I'll leave it at that for starters! :P |
| MrFilthyIke08-01-05, 05:12 PM | Certainly (When, I can't say, but yes, this is a subject you'll see more on). Cool. P.S. You gonna do any signings again this year at GenCon? I need to back of our books to match the front. :D |
| Logos08-01-05, 08:41 PM | May have been mentioned already but druids are wonderfully details in brief but monks seem less so, All the mechanic stuff is there i find but small things like names sects and politics seem missing more info (dragonshard) would seem appropiate to me Thanks Logos |
| Hellcow08-01-05, 10:43 PM | P.S. You gonna do any signings again this year at GenCon? I need to back of our books to match the front. :D I'm doing a novel signing with Matt Forbeck and Don Bassingthwaite on Saturday. I don't know if I'm scheduled for any other official signings, but I'll certainly be around and happy to sign things. |
| Hellcow08-01-05, 10:45 PM | May have been mentioned already but druids are wonderfully details in brief but monks seem less so, All the mechanic stuff is there i find but small things like names sects and politics seem missing more info (dragonshard) would seem appropiate to me Have you read this? (http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=dnd/ebds/20041213a) |
| MrFilthyIke08-02-05, 11:33 AM | but I'll certainly be around and happy to sign things. *Begins preping strange and disturbing items to get signed* :D |
| Falen08-04-05, 07:14 AM | I like the little easter eggs that used to appear in Dragonshards. Things like the shulassakar (which I have fully made stats for along with rules on its monster and paragon class) and the Valenar elves (character options). I would like to see more of that. It could be on anything, but I especially love feats. |
| fhilbrandt08-12-05, 03:10 PM | A Dragonshard about Throneport and Thronehold would be nice. |
| Niaslos FireCrow08-14-05, 04:21 PM | Religions (particularly the Sovereign and the Dark Six) needs a lot more details. I know that in the case of the Host and the Six there are multiple cult and etc. but it would be nice to have more information, holy symbols and myth or others things like that about this religions. It would surely be one of the best and most essential Dragonshards (with some of the first and the warforged one). Would be very nice if you would have the time, indeed. |
| Bluebrush08-14-05, 04:31 PM | Maybe something about the intelligence services of Thrane, Karrnath and Pre-Mourning Cyre? And the other nations spies might be cool too, though we already know about what Zilargo, the Grey tide and the Sea Dragons are up to. |
| nyysjan08-14-05, 04:34 PM | Changelings, Changelings, Changelings and more Changelings the ROE was utterly unimpressive with changelings and the three "Sects/Groups" featured were rather bland and one dimensional some info on changelings that don't go to such extreme opposites would be nice |
| Dansan08-15-05, 11:09 AM | I'd personally like: 1. Elaborate psionics, such as are there schools that train the mind, etc? 2. The Druidic Sects of the Eldeen Reaches 3. How to implement a conversion of the planes. |
| herogoeth08-19-05, 09:09 AM | Maybe it already exists somewhere here on the boards, (if it does I'd appreciate some help in finding it) but I'm looking for details on the Treaty of Thronehold. I own Five Nations, Sharn City of Towers, Races of Eberron, and The Eberron Campaign Setting, and while I have been sorting out the jist of what took place, I'd like to learn about what details in the world were effected by the treaty, if not even getting to see an actual write-up of the Treaty of Thronehold in a dragonshard. Thank You |
| Just another user08-20-05, 07:18 PM | 1 the major religions of Eberron, organizations, rituals, duties of the priesthood and how to enter in it and so on. 2 how to insert high level magic (from Wish up ;) ) and the weirdest magic item (like the deck of many things) in eberron and hopw common people see it/them (i.e average Jow know that Wish is possible? or just believe it is a fairytale? 3 druidic sects, and I mean beside the major five, because I'm sure there is a number of minor ones in the Reaches other that those mentioned in the ECS. |
| Proof09-01-05, 06:21 PM | More regarding the houses, its dealings and current operations in the world. Some House lore against Knowledge (local) or KNowledge (history). Even notable members of the house would be great. |
| twelvedrunkenmonkeyz09-03-05, 04:05 PM | I would love to see some detailed maps of Xen'drik, Sarlona, Argonessen, and Frostfell. Maybe you could do the maps with one paragraph information on the places. I mean in MM3 it gives the names and places for some of the monsters, yet we don't have the maps that indicate these areas and where they are located. |
| CheezItMan09-07-05, 01:25 PM | I'd like to see something more on the Emerald Claw/BOV. There is already quite a lot, for a new settin like Eberron, but it always leaves me wanting more... blood. |
| DramoxTheIronLord09-08-05, 10:29 PM | Greetings Mr. Baker I love your Dragonshards, they're like little bi-weekly bundles of joy! :D 1; Druidic Lore: I hope you could do a three parter. Part One: General overview. [INDENT]Part Two: Major sects; Gatekeepers, ect. [INDENT]Part Three: Minor sects; I mean what kind of druids live in Mror, Q'Barra, and the Blade desert between Valenar and Talenta? 2; Frostfell: We know less about it than we do Xen'Drik. I thought it was supposed to be Eberron's "Land of Mystery." Nonetheless, great work, keep it up! |
| TheFounderPrime09-08-05, 11:53 PM | 1. The drow of Xen'drik 2. The illithids 3. Rhashaak 4. The sahuagin 5. Lhesh Haruuc |
| Hellcow09-09-05, 12:41 AM | Part Three: Minor sects; I mean what kind of druids live in Mror, Q'Barra, and the Blade desert between Valenar and Talenta? Good subject... non-Eldeen druids haven't been discussed much. |
| Pallis09-11-05, 02:06 PM | If possible, I'd like to see something on the damned books mentioned in the Cataclysm Mage prestige class from the Explorer's Handbook. I haven't the EH to hand at the moment, and couldn't hope to spell correctly the names of those leathery tomes...but yep, anything to do with the ancient histories of Eberron, well, I'd be sold on it. I'd bet it'd be entertaining to write too, Keith! :pint: |
| KnightOfRound09-11-05, 02:35 PM | I'd like to learn some more about the Last War. What alliances were made? Why were they broken? When were the lulls in the fighting? It's possible to pick piece together sizable chunks of the war by reading the ECS and FN sourcebooks, like how Cyre used the Valenar at the beginning, the independence movement in the Eldeen Reaches, and of course the ganging-up on Cyre at the end of the War, but I'd love to have more details. Even if you can't go into more detail about the Last War, I would greatly appreciate something on the Galifar-Lhazaar war! Thanks in advance! |
| cerberuspuppy09-12-05, 12:52 AM | I would like to see articles on the villain organizations, starting with the Emerald Claw. |
| Sucros09-12-05, 01:28 AM | Good subject... non-Eldeen druids haven't been discussed much. I agree. I'd offically like to second this, especially the blade desert. |
| Flashboy09-13-05, 04:33 PM | Hello Keith, guys, This would be my wish list: 1.- Some info on everyday life for common people. When I run my campaign, I stress a lot the fact that this world just came out of a 100+ years war only two years ago. I describe destroyed and deserted populations specially in Thrane and Aundair. Other aspects would be regional languages or maybe accents of the "common"; I'm sure someone from deep-Karrnath will sound very different from someone from Sharn. 2.- I endorse the question of more detail on paticular gods of the Sovereign Host. But maybe this is material that would fit better on its own book on religion rather than a short DragonShard article. 3.- The Demon Wastes, this is a very interesting place for adventures but still a bit obscure. Could you give us a hand, Keith?. I'll keep thinking on more aspects I'd like to see developed. Thanks! David Esbrí |
| Majorafire7709-15-05, 09:48 PM | Thunder Sea + Crunch please! Give our poor Thunder Guides some more options. |
| Rogue Newb09-15-05, 09:48 PM | First off, whatever you choose to right will enhance the quality of this awesome setting., and I will read it feverishly. Okay I would really like to read about: 1.) Your opinions on what should and shouldn't be included from various splatbooks, like subraces. 2.)Some adaptions of groups from the standard D&D universe,if you think they should be adapted. The Shadowbane Guild for example. 3.) Info on various modding of warforged. Can you install stat boosters into one? Can you build a higher speed? What about extra arms and legs? Upgrade processors for attacks? So on and so forth. 4.)Your opinons on where certain races should be placed in the setting, e.g. Thri-Kreen. 5.) How exactly the mourning happned and how my players can do it again. =) Somthing tells me I'm not getting the answer to 5 as a free update. |
| Majorafire7709-16-05, 06:10 PM | First off, whatever you choose to right will enhance the quality of this awesome setting., and I will read it feverishly. Most of that falls into the category of Eberron Expanded except for 3 and 5. I doubt he'll do 5 though, as that's meant for the DM to decide, and it has been stated quite a few times that that's one of those things that they'll leave up to the DM. Remember that Dragonshards are considered canon material. |
| Eronthar09-20-05, 06:01 AM | Here's what i like to see on dragonshard articles; 1- House Medani 2- Any info about Naval Battles during the Last War.(If any happened) 3- Drows and Umbragen 4- Wroat (or any other city. But actually i prefer books about major cities) |
| A Vision In A Dream09-21-05, 08:18 AM | 1. What goes on in Argonessen 2. What is the nature of Khyber (is it like the Underdark?) 3. Elemental binding (and the ethics behind binding living creatures) 4. Couatl 5. The Plane of Shadow in Eberron (does Eberron have shadow magic?) |
| Azazyll09-25-05, 12:35 AM | Good subject... non-Eldeen druids haven't been discussed much. I also would like to hear more on this subject, particularly since dragons are seen as the root of druidism in the world. What the gnereal history of druidism, beyond the gatekeepers (including but not limited to the Reaches)? Why is there a druidic language, rather than draconic, and why do all druids know it (something I never liked anyway, but I realize you have to keep)? While you're at it, anything about the various "totem" feats from the ECS would be nice, since they don't really seem to connect to any of the established sects. Talenta druids (house Ghallanda?) and Aerenal druids would be my first choices, along with druids of the five nations, but Seren (already partly covered I know) and lizardmen druids would be a nice tie in, particularly their relationship to other druids. Does speaking druidic get you an "in" with these groups, if you can get in front of one of their druids? How do they feel about the druids of the less enlightened races? Are they, as the language in one description of Vvarak suggests, heretics/apostates? Also, may I ask why there haven't been any dragonsahrds for a month? Just curious, you are of course very busy, but they really mean a lot to me, and obviously to a lot of other gamers as well. I would personally rather see you continue those than answer the messageboards, where so many people seem to be unwilling to take the time to really look for the answers themselves ro justdon't get what questions you won't answer. If I read one more request asking for the cause of the Mourning, I believe I will scream in frustration. A sad statement about me, but unfortunately true. I can't imagine how frustrated it must make you feel. |
| Hellcow09-25-05, 01:21 AM | Why is there a druidic language, rather than draconic, and why do all druids know it? Does speaking druidic get you an "in" with these groups, if you can get in front of one of their druids? Just as an observation, I take the "Druids (only)" statement under Speak Language at face value. In my campaign, it's not simply a matter that druids aren't allowed to teach it to others, it's that they CAN'T teach it to others. It IS the language of nature, and when you master the secrets of any druidic path, knowledge of the language is part of it. So speaking druidic tells that druid that you are also a druid - but that doesn't necessarily get you an in if you come from different cultures. It's certainly a subject that would be covered in a druidic dragonshard. On that subject, however... Also, may I ask why there haven't been any dragonsahrds for a month? Issues on both my end and WotC's, based on my time and the need for Dragonshards to be approved by the WotC development team. I hope things will be on track again soon. I would personally rather see you continue those than answer the messageboards... Actually, this is a very important issue. Say it came to that: Dragonshards or the Ask Keith thread. Which is more important to you? If you have a strong opinion, I would definitely like to hear it. |
| WarlockDa09-25-05, 01:45 AM | Actually, this is a very important issue. Say it came to that: Dragonshards or the Ask Keith thread. Which is more important to you? If you have a strong opinion, I would definitely like to hear it. Personally....while I love the Dragonshards and other articles,...and I'm dying to see more,...I think the Ask Keith Baker Thread is more important. Whom better for players and DMs to ask questions about Eberron than the man that created it? No where else on this site do we have this ability. Yes you can't really get into mechanics and such.... but as for as plot or concept,..you're the #1 man to ask....and with the A.K.B.T. we have that chance. So if you're replies to the players and Dms here make Dragonshards and such take a few extra weeks,...so be it....well worth the wait :) |
| Silent Infinity09-25-05, 01:23 PM | Actually, this is a very important issue. Say it came to that: Dragonshards or the Ask Keith thread. Which is more important to you? If you have a strong opinion, I would definitely like to hear it. I think I'd have to say Dragonshards as that is probably less time-consuming for you and in a more clear, concise package. That is keeping in mind that WotC does not edit it improperly from what you would like the article to read. I understand the need to edit due to space but it is an online article; it's not like there are printing costs and woes. Plus, not everyone (quite unfortunately) takes the time to read the boards/the Ask Keith thread. I'd like everyone to benefit from your creativity, information and educated opinions. It would be quite wonderful if instead you could do a Dragonshard article every week. Keeping this thread would still be quite nice to see what we desire as far as information. However, I'd like you to continue doing what you want to do and like to do; that's what's important. That's what keeps you happy and working on a project(s) that we all enjoy together. |
| Graywolf09-26-05, 01:14 AM | I have to say that I prefer Dragonshards. A few pages dedicated to one topic, fairly easy to search through if I'm looking for something specific, and if I'm running short on time I can print it out and read it on my break at work. Truth be told I very rarely look through the Ask Keith thread. I usually only look if I'm on the boards and Hellcow has just posted something to it. |
| Takasi09-26-05, 01:33 AM | Actually, this is a very important issue. Say it came to that: Dragonshards or the Ask Keith thread. Which is more important to you? If you have a strong opinion, I would definitely like to hear it. Personally the Age of Worms conversions are more important than anything right now. :D How are these coming along Keith? What do you think of the campaign? Anything you're allowed to expand on in this thread? Any chance you can post the campaign arc conversion? A lot of us have questions about what direction you'll take with Redhand. I haven't dug through this thread in a while. For me it's difficult to keep up with all the new books and novels. I do check the WotC site every day though, and look forward to Dragonshard articles. However, if the Ask Keith thread disappeared I may one day regret it. I wouldn't mind as much if it were just a hiatus, as the Dragonshards currently seem to be. |
| exploding_brain09-26-05, 02:27 PM | *Snip* Sorry, wrong thread. |
| exploding_brain09-26-05, 02:40 PM | Twice in a row. |
| DoveArrow09-27-05, 08:06 PM | How about a Dragonshard about Inquisitives. I'd like to know your thoughts about how the different PHB classes fill the role of an inquisitive, and what kinds of archetypal roles are common in the inquisitive role. Something to think about. |
| Hellcow10-11-05, 02:45 PM | Good news for Dragonshard fans! The articles should return starting next week. The first subject is an epic (not Epic in the D20 sense, mind you) multi-part article, and as such it's going to be on an accelerated schedule so we don't take up two months on one topic; once it's done, we'll probably drop back to a bimonthly schedule, though I'd like to see Dragonshards and EE alternating. Over the last few months, I've had a number of discussions with the WotC development team about what subjects are appropriate for Dragonshards. The approval process for the articles is a big part of what's slowed things down, and there are certain subjects that the Powers That Be would prefer to leave for sourcebooks, which get a lot more time for development and approval. I think we've found a good balance point, and I hope you'll be happy with the articles I've got planned: but a number of the subjects that have been requested are in that sourcebook-only category. With that said, the good news is that one such sourcebook is coming out soon: The Player's Guide to Eberron does provide roughly Dragonshard length pieces on everything from the orcs of the Shadow Marches to, well, dragonshards. (Of course, I only wrote about a quarter of it, but hey, I can't do everything...) Anyhow, look for a new Dragonshard next week! |
| JohnnyONeal10-11-05, 03:17 PM | With that said, the good news is that one such sourcebook is coming out soon: The Player's Guide to Eberron does provide roughly Dragonshard length pieces on everything from the orcs of the Shadow Marches to, well, dragonshards. (Of course, I only wrote about a quarter of it, but hey, I can't do everything...)Hold on a second. You mean to tell me that Eberron creator Keith Baker has been asked to contribute to an Eberron sourcebook? Preposterous!! (But seriously, it's nice to have you back on an Eberron sourcebook after being absent for three. I wish there was time in your scheule -- and room in the WotC staff's hearts -- to include you in every sourcebook!) |
| jdmasegian10-19-05, 05:29 PM | I'd love to see a Dragonshard that touches on some of the "famous" ancestors the Valenar try to emulate. A smattering of Ancestral Feats in the same mold as for Oriental Adventures would be highly appropriate - not only would we get a little more detail on the hero's of the Valenar, the feats would aid in focusing Valenar characters on specific aspects of their heritage they want to emphasize. |
| davethebrave37110-27-05, 12:31 AM | 1. Eradnis d'Vol (preferably including some details about the father before the destruction of the Mark of Death) 2. Mark of Death 3. House Vol (including pre-history in Xen'drik) 4. The Shadow Split 5. The Making Split |
| Isran_Imrador12-05-05, 02:25 PM | 1. Q`barra part 1 & 2 2. Valanar Part 3 ;) 3. Throneport 4. Frostfell 5. Traditions of the Sov. Host |
