Do they retain the bonus proficiency feats for longbow, shortbow, and rapier? Yes. And as noted in the CSB, the double scimitar is a martial weapon for Valenar. |

Is it safe to assume that their mounts are their animal companions, or are they more likely to call a bird as their animal companion like Valenar wizard familiars? Or is there no real pattern or preference? |

When you're looking for an answer from me, it's best to post in the Ask Keith thread - I rarely have time to follow all the discussion threads. The article states that "most veteran Valenar soldiers are rangers of 4th to 6th level." Is it safe to assume that their mounts are their animal companions, or are they more likely to call a bird as their animal companion like Valenar wizard familiars? Generally this would be a safe assumption; this is the "deep bond" between rider and mount refered to elsewhere in the article. But that's a generalization, not a hard rule. Birds are more common as familiars, because the empathic link alongs a familiar scout to relay simple data (IE presence of enemies) to its master. But an individual Valenar can follow whatever path he wants. |
