| Rolapin08-17-04, 09:48 AM | A new Dragonshards article is available. As always it is excellent and full of ideas... I'd like to play a Goblin shaarat'khesh  Heir of Dhakaan (http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=dnd/ebds/20040816a) |
| Bluebrush08-17-04, 09:54 AM | The odd thing is, I have been thinking for a while that Darguun would be a good place to put in samurai and ninja-like subcultrues for those who insist on having them in their game. |
| Angelion08-17-04, 12:10 PM | Excellent Dragonshard. Good job Keith! |
| fizzbang08-17-04, 12:42 PM | Add me to the list of folk congratulating Keith on the excellent article. Man, I love the focus on giving a real history to the "monstrous" races in Eberron. I really hope kobolds get the same sort of love in future expansions. |
| Darkest9008-17-04, 07:47 PM | I really liked this Dragonshard. I hope we will be able to see more that detail new and old organizations for us to use in our campaigns. |
| Kesh08-17-04, 08:04 PM | Dammit. Now I want to play a goblin ranger! :D Hrm. Or, maybe a Blue... |
| Remnant08-20-04, 08:04 PM | If I were to allow "oriental" classes in an Eberron game, I would be inclined to introduce them through Darguun, in large part because doing so distances them from association with a real world culture by attaching them to goblinoids rather than humans that, somehow, regardless of region of orgin or local custom, are named Takashi and follow a code they call Bushido. I would also be very likely to rename the classes, and take steps to prevent blatant "flavor bleeding". The samurai could be called a Dakaani Blademaster or somesuch, and the names of the swords could be altered. Of course, I'm bitter due to a) idiots and b) idiot fanboys. And thanks to Quentin Tarantino, chances are I will only be more bitter as Hero makes its way through the legions of zombie fanboy katana huggers who will now insist that I do things like oh, say, make samurai immune to arrows, or allow iterative whirlwind attacks for their uber elite katana wielding ninja warriors. Not that they don't do that already, I'll just be even more bitter. |
| Bluebrush08-20-04, 09:25 PM | Originally posted by Remnant The samurai could be called a Dakaani Blademaster or somesuch, and the names of the swords could be altered. "I'm going to be a Dakaani Blademaster!" "Okay. Don't forget to add that masterwork bastard sword to your equipment." "JAWESOME! I get a Katana!" "No... A bastard sword." "An elegantly curved bastard sword?" "Perfectly straight as a matter of fact. Quite chunky too." "Made from finest steel folded a jazillion times?" "Nnnno... Good work though." "... Okay, having something of a rebellious streak, I have hammered my sword into a cu-" "Rendering it junk..." "Goddammit! What's the point if I don't get a Katana?" "Well, you get to honourably serve your lord, protect Darguun with your life, write three-line poems about cherry blossoms, uphold ancient traditions, ride horses, shoot bo-" "Forget it. I'm making an Adamantine Warforged Psion instead." Anyway. Just cause they have Oriental influences doesn't mean you can't scrap the annoying bits. Like the goblin Assassins. Maybe they could Eschew shuriken in favour of hand crossbows while still adhering to the principles of Ninpo. Maybe the Darguun Samurai could wield dire flails instead, or those weird longsword + chain weapons. Or maybe they don't give a damn about ancestral weapons. Maybe one of the board members could come up with a five level "Knight of Darguun" class? |
| cyberpunk08-20-04, 09:58 PM | I do like the oriental spin on the goblinoids, but i've got two words: Blue Warminds. I think that this would be a sweet way to include warminds into Eberron, it makes perfect sense that this once great race turns out anomolys that eventually learned the art of warfare from thier larger more combat oriented cousins and mastered a new set of techniques that make devistating use of thier own natural abilities. He he he... I have a wonderful encounter planned with silent blades and warminds for my pcs, after they finish shadows. |
| heretic88809-22-04, 08:30 PM | Maybe they could Eschew shuriken in favour of hand crossbows while still adhering to the principles of Ninpo. Errrrr.... you mean use kyojitsu tenkan ho as a basis for all strategy, never kill unless absolutely necessary, have a detached-but-compassionate philosophical view, and follow the "Laws of Nature"?? Hrmmm... I must'a missed somethin'. |
| Bluebrush09-22-04, 09:00 PM | Heretic: Yeah, pretty much. My "What to change and what to leave" thoughts should have been seperate sentences, I mixed them up in one sentence. I wasn't implying that the principles of ninpo had stuff like "Be sure to use shuriken a lot, they're ace." or anything like that. |
| heretic88809-22-04, 09:21 PM | *shrugs* Ummm.... okay. |
