Drow in Eberron [Archive] - Wizards Community

06-28-05, 10:44 AM Was looking for some information on the Drow in Eberron. I didn't see a specific reference in the main sourcebook. Are they discussed in Races of Eberron? Are they allowable as player races? Also wanted to know if they were linked politically with any of the surface groups, like Blood of Vol or one of the Houses.

Side question: I was looking for a search field on the page so I could see if there was other posts on drow, but I didn't see it...?

06-28-05, 11:17 AM The drow are mentioned briefly in the Xen'drik and Iconic Monsters sections of the ECS I believe. You can also find more detailed information in Races of Eberron. Dragon Mag #330 has more drow info, with a detailed discussion of the Umbragen, a specific culture of the drow.
Drow are not recommended as player characters because they are supposed to be a mysterious race with strange motives. There is nothing stopping you from playing a drow though, but make sure you talk it over with your DM.
Drow do not have any affiliation with Khorvairian organisations. They keep themselves to themselves, and are pretty xenophobic.

On the Search feature, it is undergoing repairs.

06-29-05, 01:38 PM As a rule, you can't use a drow in eberron...they're mean bastards that live in a faraway (not much really) land, and are really xenophobic, just like ieattrolls mentioned... THERE ARE NOT, I REPEAT, THERE ARE NOT REDEEMED DROWS IN KHORBAINE THAT WIELD TWIN SCIMITARS!!!!!!

Yes.

Are they allowable as player races?

Keith Baker says they're not suitable as playable characters. (He wrote the book.) That doesn't mean you can't use them, only that it's a really bad idea.

Houses? Do they even know what they are? One reason the drow aren't suited to be PCs is that most of them are only barely aware of things outside of Xen'drik. A drow has virtually no reason to leave Xen'drik.

Many Eberron drow do not actually live underground, BTW. They're just nocturnal.

It's for the best. Such threads invariably end in flamewars. (In fact, if for some strange reason you allow playable drow in your campaign, don't announce it here.)

Almost forgot: most drow on Eberron live on the surface of the world anyway, so you don't need to make the distinction. There are a few tribes that cross regularly between Eberron and Khyber, but almost none that live exclusively underground.

Also, they all live on the continent of Xen'drik, far to the south of most Eberron campaigns.

P.S. If your campaign features drow as they are portrayed in other settings, most notably Greyhawk or the Forgotten Realms, don't mention it here, unless you like flames. If you think of the drow as—and don't press the analogy too far—Robert E. Howard's Negari, or H. Rider Haggard's Amahagger, you won't be far wrong.

06-29-05, 05:29 PM Actually, Keith said that now with the information in the Races of Eberron out, the Drow a fine as player characters. It was because of the lack of information about the Drow that led the authors of Eberron to suggest you should not play them, which is now not the case (if you have RoE).
