| ThatOneMonk04-10-05, 11:40 PM | I'm trying to put together a list of reasons why a group (small) of drow would venture to Khorvaire. 1. A group is formed to find out if the land belonging to the foreigners really is so poor and useless that they really must steal from the lush riches of Xen'drik. 2. An elite group of drow selected from various tribes is sent on a mission to scout the land of the weaker races to find any resources, secrets, military strength, etc. "Hey, it's our turn to explore YOUR continent!" Also, how would a Khorvaire and, maybe more importantly, Sharn react to group of drow walking around, threatening or non-threatening, or other wise? |
| PoeticJustice04-11-05, 12:42 AM | The only experience most Brelanders have with Drow are from tales of dark-skinned savages that worship pagan gods and ritualistically scar thmselves using venom begot from vermin. I imagine the watch would NOT trust these guys enough to take their eyes off of them. Also they aren't protected by the Galifar code, so anyone could kill them for whatever. Same goes for imprisonment, enslavement, mugging, anything... Finally, the group might be targeted by Morgrave Univ. or the Clifftop adventurers Guild, or even the Dragonmarked Houses, all of which have doubtlessly lost members due to unprovoked Drow attacks during their excursions to Xen 'drik. you know, payback. That, and your average Drow knows less about Khorvaire than the Average American knows about day-to-day life in Tribal Africa. They'd stick out like sore thumbs without any type of knowledge of anywhere. They'd drop trow and go potty in the middle fo an alley simply because they don't know any better, and you can imagine how well that'd go over with the locals. They probably wouldn't even know the language, and if they did, the wouldn't speak it well. Think it over CAREFULLY before you take the Drow out of Xen 'drik. |
| Streamweaver04-11-05, 12:51 AM | Only three real possibilities occur to me right now. 1. They could be a band sent to recover sacred items that were stolen by invading adventurerers from Khorvair. Or maybe they are after some small enclave of Dreaming Dark in Sharn? 2. They could be captured as exotic slaves, to be reserach topics for Morgrave/Aracanix etc. 3. They could be courted by the Daughters of Sora Kell (sp) in Droaam who seek something from them and they brought a delgation here for negotiations. |
| N'wah04-11-05, 12:56 AM | Here's some ideas for you: An ancient giant artifact was taken from a drow holding in Xen'drik. The drow have come to Khorvaire to get it back. This would be a good one-shot adventure, either for a group of drow PCs living in Xen'drik or a standard group trying to protect said artifact. The downside- drow don't speak most of the languages prevalent in Khorvaire, making communication and travel difficult. The Umbragen (see Dragon 330) need a weapon or spell of some sort to help fight back the aberrations threatening their homeland. This is easier to run- Umbragen seem more advanced in culture than normal drow and might have one or two people who can speak common. They also have magic and possible access to Khorvaire via the tunnels of Khyber- a long walk, to be sure, but easier if aided by magic. Actually, I believe that Sharn: City of Towers talks about who is considered to be covered by the Code of Galifar as a legal person- and if trolls are ok, I think the drow would be protected, too. Not that they wouldn't face a lot of other problems just by being there- attacks by ignorants, being swindled out of their gold, booted out of establishments, and a general prejudized reaction from most of the populace. Plus, Drow culture seems to frown on leaving your fellows behind, so the need must be very dire or the drow in question have no fellows to come home to. |
| zentr04-11-05, 12:44 PM | I don't have any additonal reasons to offer, but the new Races of Eberron book has more information on drow in Eberron. I haven't read that section yet, but there might be some more ideas there. |
| ThatOneMonk04-11-05, 01:21 PM | I'm really diggin' that idea about recovering a sacred artifact. It sounds like the best option. I realize they won't know the language well, and travel will be difficult, and the locals won't take to kindly to them. Those are the biggest reasons why this will be a blast! :D Can someone get me some information on the Umbragen, what they are, stats etc... I'm embarrased to say this, but i dont know what/who they are... |

Their stats are found there (http://www.systemreferencedocuments.org/35/sovelior_sage/monstersEtoF.html#drow-elf). Except for the favored class bit, I've heard it was warlock instead. And probably the free weapon proficiencies: boomerang instead of crossbow, things like that, I suppose. (Any other change would be a disaster. Fav. class and "weapon familiarity" can be considered cultural traits rather than racial traits, but the others can not.) |
| Silent Infinity04-11-05, 07:45 PM | Love your signature Gez. However, I'd use this Umbragen (http://boards1.wizards.com/showpost.php?p=5680531) link for information and stats on my new favorite interest within Eberron. |
