| ThatOneMonk04-26-05, 01:26 PM | Here's the situation... I'll soon be gming an eberron campaign in which all of the pcs are xen'drik drow. An ancient and powerful giant artifact that has great but unknown potential has been stolen from a prominent ruin guarded by a small but dedicated group of drow mystics. They failed to protect their prize, being of extreme age, and so have made a call for brave members of some surrounding tribes to come to the temple to form an expedition group led by the youngest member of the mystics (500 some years old, and a pc), to go to the continent to the north and retrieve their sacred artifiact. My first question is... does this situation make sense? Would this be a logical course of action, being that the artifact is known to contain immense power to be used in times of dire emergency? second... my pcs seem to be taken to the idea of this campaign. Since they are the 'elite' (there are more powerful, but these are the 'frontliners) I've made them level 6 to start out. The leader, the mystic, is a sorcerer and is 500 years old. I don't really have any problems with him individually, but two other pcs i might have to manipulate. The first is not so bad. He's a rogue assassin with an intelligent weapon. He's very VERY cunning. Loyal yet deceptive, he plans on slowly manipulating to party towards his control. Fine, I don't have a terrible problem with that. However, my second pc on the list, still dont know what classes and such he's doing, ranger gish I think, wants to take the leadership feat and be the leader of a tribe having his father passed away. Now, that sounds ok, right? Sure he might try to take command from the elder (i've discussed this with the elder pc, and he's sure he could keep him in like), but this particular person likes to take control of the party. Everytime. It rather gets on the other pcs nerves. So i guess my second question is two fold... Should I just let it go? and if I don't what should I do? blah... thanks |

Would this be a logical course of action, being that the artifact is known to contain immense power to be used in times of dire emergency? Of course it makes sense. It's your world, and your campaign idea. I'm sure that the PC's, if given a solid reason and motivation to adventure will bite for the idea and probably have a good time with it. I personally always like the "Search and retrieve-Time is running short" style adventures. Go for it. second... my pcs seem to be taken to the idea of this campaign. Well, for the most part since this SEEMS to be an evil campaign, what w/ players looking to take over the group and subtly do their bidding I would say go for it. If you feel your players are mature enough that is, and bent of being subtle with their motivations. The one thing i find fun and amazing about elves are they have hundreds of years to live for the most part and arent rash or overt with their dealings in any way. Especially drow who are cool and calculating. As long as each characters motivations aren't a constant thorn in the overall side of the adventure day in and day out, it sounds to me like your groups has really thought out their relationship to the group and thus their relationship and motivations to the world around them as a whole, and that is never a bad thing. It will be up to YOU though to plant seeds and give cues sometimes to players as to when MIGHT be a good time for them to take a subtle step in the direction of accomplishing their overall goals. Now, that sounds ok, right? Everytime. It rather gets on the other pcs nerves. Now on the FLIPSIDE of that coin. If this is a case where this PC does this kind of stuff EVERYTIME, than I think its time you have a talk w/ him and open him up to the idea of maybe stretching the limits of his play style some and NOT try to take control of the group this time cause well, the other PCs dont like it. ANd if you KNOW that the other players dont like it, it should be something that you all need to address. Dont shuck the fun of everyone else for ONE player. That breeds decention and you dont want that. Overall i think you are onto something kinda intriguing and fun going. I hope the Drow Police doesn't come to this thread and rip you a new one for running an all Drow campaign, which they have been known to do. Anyways, good luck. |
