As a house-rule, I would say that, in the case of trying to use this drug to get access to secrets or anything of the like, it fails, and your viewpoint is "randomly selected" by the DM to not give you any information he doesn't want you to have. If someone went by this house-rule, I would say no, they are not aware, and since the DM picked the person, they don't get a save or anything.
