I am looking to run this (Queen with the burning eyes in Dungeon 113) adventure soon and wondering if anyone else has already and if they can offer any advice, unforseen happenings, ways to make it more "dark adventure".

Thanks for your help.

P.S. We played forgotten forge already and will take on Shadows of the last war after.

Actually, I would be interested in any answers to this question as well, as I also plan to do the same thing.

Mojomonkeyman, how do you plan to kick the adventure off. I don't care for the article's suggestion for hooks. Did you come up with anything else?

One of my PCs (a changeling rogue) had befriended Skakan, the goblin merchant the party meets in The Forgotten Forge, so I had Skakan let him know about the disappearances in the Cogs (Skakan expected a monetary reward for this info, of course).

The party later met with Vestan, who offered them a reward, so they were especially invested in defeating him later when he betrayed them.

Before the party went into the excavation, they met with a couple of the miners working the excavation, heard their story, and developed a little comaraderie. Therefore, I had Travack use the miner they liked best as his hostage in the final encounter. This way the PCs actually cared about the hostage. In my campaign the miner lived, but for a darker flavor, Travack could just slit his throat after the PCs hand over the key (or if they decide to attack).

Obviously there's also lot of room for "darkness" during the scene in which the PCs are about to be sacrificed to the Queen with Burning Eyes. Add as many gory/blasphemous details as you like.

Hope that helps.

Glad to see that I'm not the only one planning on using Forgotten Forge, Queen of Burning Eyes, and Shadows of the Last War all together :)

I prefer to use my own stuff and not mods, but I have to say these are well written, plus when you're new to the land, gives you a nice foothold to start from.

As a comment on the above, I realy like Galen's idea of having Vestan meet the PCs before they go into the excavation. That premise is not addressed in the adventure, but it is a good one. I was going to use the Elaydren and Sgt. Dolom hook, both of whom my PCs met. But, Galen has me sold on his early use of Vestan. Nice one.

As a side note, I am going to use the Minis Tiles as suggested in the adventure. I have two sets, so I shall be okay except for area 11, which I will draw on my mat.

I'm currently running two groups through the aforementioned series simultaneously, and everyone's having a blast.

Group A: Kalashtar psion, Warforged artificer, House Deneith paladin, Silver Flame cleric, and human wizard were mired in the complexities and conveniences of Sharn, but have finally made it down the shaft with only a single casualty. (After about nine hours of playing time, that is.)

In about the same amount of table time, Group B: Karnathi necromancer, Warforged fighter, and tiger shifter ranger/barbarian sailed through FF with a climactic and deadly final battle, and are rolling through QwBE.

The CR for both seem to be geared towards the two fighter, single caster, single rogue four character breakdown. I was also intrigued with the Dungeon format with tiles and miniatures so I dropped some money on those and they seemed to go over alright. Shuffling tiles is annoying, so I'll probably forego it in the future. The free map was great, don't know what all the complaining is about, I'm filling in pertinent info as the pc's learn more about the world, so frankly I'm glad it doesn't list everything.

On the other hand, I am disappointed with the similarities between the first two published adventures: descend below Sharn into ancient hold, get valuable antiquities, get ambushed/betrayed.
As vibrant and fresh as the source material for Eberron is, I was surprised. I'm running them, regardless, because SotLW is phenomenal, very Indy Jones, as someone previously pointed out (albeit as if it were a bad thing!) and neither crew has a snowballs chance of getting out of it alive w/o some levels.
Can't wait for the next two modules in the series to hit the shelves. No. Really. Please hurry up with those things.

my plan is also to run forgotten forge > Queen > Shadows. The group is working on the forge right now, but everyone is loving it. I'm glad to hear others are having some success with the same order of modules.

Also using all 3 adventures.

The party consists of:

Male Human Ranger (Dragonmarked) of House Orien
Female Half Elf Cleric of the Church of Silver Flame
Male Gnome Artificer
Male Personality Warforged Monk
Female Kalashtar Psion
Female Changeling Rogue

The PC's just finished off The Forgotten Forge and have decided to stay in Sharn for a couple of days to recouperate.

The party befrended the Dwarf watchman at the beginning of Forge so I'll have him approach the party to look into the events of Queen of the Burning Eyes.

If the PC's handle Queen with the same effectiveness & tact that they did with Forge, that should boost their rep enough for Lady d'Vown / d'Cannith to trust them with SoTLW.
