| Takasi07-22-04, 03:57 PM | A preview from Dungeon 114: Steel Shadows by Keith Baker A killer is stalking the warforged of Sharn. Some say the murderer is a vengeful spirit, while others blame human bigotry and fear. Can the adventurers expose the truth that lies hidden in the depths of Sharn? A D&D Eberron adventure for 7th-level characters. |
| lukelightning07-22-04, 04:10 PM | We know the killer is that guy who posted that thread asking "how much gp of mithril/adamantite can you get from a dead warforged?" |
| the_fools_wildhunt07-22-04, 04:34 PM | Hmm, I like that we are getting adventures for Eberron in both Dungeon and bought Modules already to support the setting, but considering it has been released for one month isn't an adventure set for 7th level PCs a little pointless this soon? Yes, PCs will get there but how about putting in the 2-5 lvl range to start with and maybe in a few more dungeons time then print the 7th+ modules. Just a thought. Maybe right, maybe wrong. |
| ebb201207-22-04, 04:39 PM | I find alot of people around where I live dont like starting at 1st lvl. My group did but there is another group playing and the gaming club we play at and then skipped to 5th to start. /shrug Different strokes for different folks. Ebb2012 |
| Kryptonian Scion07-22-04, 05:22 PM | The cover and preview blurbs for Dungeon have been on Paizo's website for two days, a few people already HAVE the magazine - and I didn't know? I am slipping. Tsk. |
| Takasi07-22-04, 05:38 PM | The preview blurbs on the site are for Dungeon 114. I didn't learn about this until people started getting the magazine and posted info on the next issue, 115. |
| Anfillius07-22-04, 05:40 PM | In a setting like Forgotten Realms or Greyhawk I could see a party skipping over the obligatory goblin/kobold slaugtering phase and going directly to level 7. In Ebreron, however, the whole idea is that 1st-level PC's are pretty dang cool. While I fully support a group's right to start out at whatever power level they like, I do agree that it is a bit soon for a published 7th-level adventure. However, it may be that Keith and the folks are just trying to demonstrate that Eberron does in fact cover all power-levels, not ONLY low-levels. I can appreciate that, but I certainly didn't doubt it before :) . In any event...here's to a great new world! |
| Takasi07-22-04, 06:19 PM | I'm very glad the adventure is 7th level. If I go through: -Forgotten Forge -Queen with Burning Eyes -Shadows of the Last War -Whispers of the Vampire's Blade Then characters will probably be at least 7th level. (Dungeon 115 should hit shelves when Whispers does in September.) |

(Dungeon 115 should hit shelves when Whispers does in September.) Ok, fair call, did not realize the next module would come out at the same time. Still, as someone said above, 7th is powerful in Eberron and if you run the modules in order it does seem to take that away. 1st - 7th in 4 Modules means you lose out in alot of cool exploring and character development in the early stages where some would consider it the most fun. You arn't powerful but you must interact in a world where there are a lot of nasty buggers running around and that is a thrill. The only other problem I see is is again based in Sharn and while it is a cool city I hope it will not become like Greyhawk in 2nd Ed where there was so much for Greyhawk City but very little for the rest of the world. A little variation would be nice at this stage, especially since he Sharn Soucebook is a while away. But as another said, different strokes for different folks. I will still buy it and run it and most likely enjoy it. Cheers |

I wouldn't worry too much; the setting s all of a month old, so they still have plenty of time to detail something besides Sharn. I'm guessing we'll get our Belly-full of Sharn this year, and then they will start moving to other regions in detail next year. I'm suspecting they'll start detailing the Mournland or Xen'drik Next, but I'd rather (MUCH rather) have a bunch of 32 page Gazetteers on each of the 12 or 13 nations next. |

If you don't want to run it for 7th level, it probably won't be a big deal. Nearly every Dungeon adventure has a "Scaling the Adventure" sidebar with notes on how to adust encounter for lower or higher level PC's. |

Steel Shadows is a stand alone adventure, not part of an adventure path. Some people play more often than others, some start at higher levels; Dungeon is just trying to address the needs of different people. |
| Draamal07-27-04, 10:01 PM | aaaaaaand he's back! get him, posters! :smirk: |
| Brastan07-28-04, 01:55 AM | Actually I have a pirate PC that was inserted in doing such a thing but... when I sternly reminded him that he was CG and doing such a thing would make him evil he back off. (no penalty but it being evil still hurts) My gaming group stared a 1st-level and is now midway though 5th so by the time I buy that magazine they'll be 7th more than likely, though they might not still be in Sharn by that time. Principalities to Sharn to Darguun to Mournland soon to Xen'dirk. aaaaaaand he's back! get him, posters!:smirk: Why? Well get him next Friday for sure. |

(snip) I realise that it is customary to be quick to malign FR in this respect however, please note, that FR began in a similarly low-powered fashion. Eberron is "under control" at the moment but after the first batch of novels is released, and a couple of higher-powered supplements, I'm sure we will be at a similar power level as FR. After all, have you ever seen anything as powerful as some of the monsters in the main Eberron book? ;) |

Hey, I resent that! :) I would never stoop to hunting warforged on the streets, and I would definitely punish players who started doing so. Of course, if the warforged is dead already, it would be like just leaving a gold nugget laying on the street. Someone's going to profit, might as well be you. :P /Not serious Jeremy Puckett (Hida Jiremi) |
