| ThanisKartaleon12-05-05, 04:09 AM | Another in the Video Game Plots in Eberron (http://boards1.wizards.com/showthread.php?p=4945478) series. This idea was originally submitted by Nyysjan "Lets see how the world looks from the other side. :D" Indeed. Remember the Reverse Dungeon "adventure" in 2nd edition? Good times. Now honestly, what player hasn't wanted to play as the Lord of Blades, or King Kaius, or one of the Lords of Dust? (Especially after that recent Dragon article) So, my first question is: How high up would you put the players? Would they indeed get to control the big baddies, and set into motion schemes for world domination? (The rules for Birthright could help here) Or are they evil on a smaller scale? Perhaps each could be in control of a tribe of lizardfolk in Q'barra... On an even smaller scale, they could run all of the flunkies that are inevitably slain quickly by the "heroes," one at a time. Example: DM: "The Silver Flame Knight strikes quickly and without compassion, lopping your head off with one swift blow from his greatsword. You fall, and the light of Vol fades from your eyes... You are now Trellik, a Karrnathi Zombie stationed at Fort Bones who held distinction in the Last War and earned the moniker Flamequencher. A group of so-called adventurers have invaded the Fort, and have already destroyed many of your fellow soldiers. Even now, you hear the sounds of fierce combat in the next room... Comments? |

And one of the great things about running a game this way is that you really can give the players some super-cool items to run around with... because there's no way they can keep these characters later. A Kobold running around with the Hand and Eye of Vecna? Sure! (sure to cause major chaos when, after the campaign is over, you use said kobold as an NPC villain!) |
| MarkB12-05-05, 05:30 AM | I think if you're going to take the Dungeon Keeper route, you have to include at least some facility for the players to design their own dungeon, as this was a big part of the games' appeal. How about giving them control of a cult of evil Dwarves who keep Ankhegs or Umber Hulks (depending upon campaign level) as domesticated workbeasts. The beasts burrow out new tunnels, while the dwarves finish, prop and shore them, allowing a working dungeon to be carved in hours. |

You could probably set a situation similar to dungeon keeper in Droaam. Lots of bad guys to recruit, do-gooders wandering in to slaughter your minions. I've been sitting on the idea of a Dark Mistress prestige class for a while, so if this thread takes off I might resurrect it. Only problem I'm having is working out if I should make up a new weapon for the mistresses claws or whether to just treat them as spiked gauntlets. |
| realdm12-05-05, 09:09 AM | I will slowly shift the campaign from horror and investigation to dungeon keeper mode. however be advised, two pcs make this thing already really complicated. another idea could be to leave one of the two pc as the bad guy, the one who makes the dungeon and controls the monsters, the other pc could be the leader of the good party, and he controls his pcs and ALL the group (he gets to play as a single mind and enjoy as much as his nemesis) and the dm... well the dm finally relax himself a bit, play the tunes and prepare some special, nice and unexpected encounters.. HAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAH |
