| DyloniusFunk09-05-05, 11:57 PM | The thing i love about this setting is that it's so perfect for useing plots and ideas from other media. We've seen it in the Anime/Manga Character thread over in 'People and Places'. There was even someone who converted the A-Team to Ebberon. So let's try to compile some ideas for adventures in Ebberon that come from movies or television. I'll kick things off with one that came into my head this evening. The group is hired by House Thurask to capture a criminal that's proven to eb too much for them to handle. The teamk gets word that he's planning something in one of the upper towers of Sharn, so they go and try to capture him/her but he/she escapes. The next day the heroes are called to report to either House Officals/City Watch for thier failure. They are told to take a skycoach, unfortuantly it's early morning and it's quite crowded. As the Coach begins it's ascent, suddenly a voice can be heard. It's the voice of the person the PC's were chaseing. Someone he was monitoring the skycoach. He tells the driver that the coach was modfified with a Delayed Blast Fireball that was set to a contigency that it would activate if the coach went bwloe a certain speed once it had hit that speed. Turns out the coach has allready hit that speed and now mus tmaintain the breakneck pace or exploded in the middle of the city. Can the PCs keep the commuters calm, navigate the crowded Sharn skylanes and get the explosive coach out of the city before it explodes. Ok, so basically it's Speed in Sharn, and i'm sure the spells don't work that way. I figured it would make for a good high speed action adventure. Anyone else have ideas? |
| UnkemptSage09-06-05, 12:53 AM | A wealthy member of House Vadalis comes up with a brilliant idea for an attraction that would be both profitable and educational. He purchases a small island off the coast of Breland and begins gathering exotic creatures from all over Eberron to put on display in the most amazing zoo ever constructed. He hires magewrights and artificers from House Cannith to create magical restraints and barriers to keep the dangerous creatures under control. When the Brelish government gets wind of this, they contact a number of professors from various institutions, as well as a number of adventurers (the PCs), and request that they inspect the zoo for safety purposes. However, one of the higher-ups in House Cannith hears about the work the artificers have been doing, and decides to build a zoo of his own. While the PCs are enjoying their apparently safe trip, one of the Cannith artificers activates a new invention of his own design that creates a massive anti-magic pulse that temporarily wipes out all working magic on the island for a few minutes, turning all magic items into heaps of junk. The artificer plans to gather a number of younger creatures and escape to the mainland. Meanwhile, mommy's very angry... In short, it's Jurassic Park for Eberron. |
| zambuka09-06-05, 01:02 AM | It would work a lot better using a lightning rail heading towards Sharn at breakneck speed, with a magical device that removes the protective bindings holding the fire elemental if the speed goes below a certain point. But it works the way you have it. Other idea. PCs get a call from the Sharn watch telling them they recieved an odd request. They must strip off and head down into the goblin quarters wearing placards saying "Green skins go home" or pehaps into the cogs with signs saying "disassemble all 'forged". Once there they receive a message via a magic mouth telling them there is an explosive trap in a public place. When they get there they find a nice little magical trap (with a fireball, lightning bolt or something even more dangerous) that must be disarmed. The PCs get led around Sharn in a zany chase going after trap after trap tying up all the sharn watch and many other security groups. Meanwhile the real crime is happening at the Kundarak Gold Vaults. We then have a chase through some forgotten sewer tunnels to an unused cove where the bad guys have a ship waiting. |
| Tek09-06-05, 01:12 AM | Nice Die Hard idea. The PC's are hired by paladins of the Silver Flame to join them into an expedition into the Eldeen Reaches. Along with the PC's and the Flamers, the total number of people heading into the Reaches is thirteen. It seems that the Keeper of the Flame herself was told by the flame to send an expedition to a certain small town, very deep in the jungles. Along the way, the Flamers tell the PC's what they know. They believe a small human village, deep in the Reaches is being attacked monthly by a large clan of were-animals. So huge, infact, that there may be hundreds of the creatures. The silver flame will not let this stand. Apon reaching the town, they must prepare defenses against the were-animal army, and they are attacked during the night by the creatures, who are truly menacing. The beasts even carry off their dead at the end of the battle. Eventually, after another huge battle, the PC's find out that these creatures aren't wereanimals at all. They're merely shifters with the heads of dead beasts worn as masks. They must take the fight against these shifters deep in a cave in the Eldeen, and kill the mother were-animal. Apon doing this, the small human town is safe again. (13th Warrior) |
| DyloniusFunk09-06-05, 01:52 AM | Another good one. A secret agent for The Dark Lanterns has decided suddenly to resign. No one knows why he diecded to do this. The next day, the cleaning staff of his home discover he's disappeared. There's no trace of him, and divination magic only reveals one phrase 'The Village". The PCs are hired to track down the agent, and see if he's been captured by an organization, House or anothe government. There's even a possibilty he's been taken by rouge agents of Breland to see if his resignation was part of a plan to defect to Karnath or Thrane and sell the secrets he knew. During the course of the investigation, the heroes are attacked by shadowy people and knocked out. When they awake, they find themselves in a very lovely little house, in a quaint little village. THey soon leanr that this is The Village. Everyone here has a number, and they discover the agent they were hunting. He is Number 6. Everyone here is very poliet and the PCs have anything they could ask for. And there is apparantly no sign of any kind of security. The only security they notice is a bounceing white ball that can engulf people who try to escape. When they arrive they are taken to see the leader of the village, Number 2. Honestly i don't know how many people here will get this, but if you do, bravo to you. |

| DyloniusFunk09-06-05, 02:19 AM | A former Breland Navy officer has hit hard times in the wake of the ending of the Last War. Once a decorated captain, he found he had no place in a peacetime millitary. So he decided to start his own ocean tour company. He bought a small ship and used to take people on sight seeing tours around the waters near Sharn. He was planning to start alone, but then fate stepped in. He was contacted by an agent of House Lyander and given a offer. The house had discovered that one of it's members, a young man who had manifsted a Lesser Mark Of Storm, was.... well to be frank, a moron. He tried his best, but everything he tried to do he screwed upo. And he had caused massive damage from misuse of his mark's gust of wind and wind's favor spell-like abilities. They asked the captain to agree to take the young man under his care as a crewman, in exchance for financial backing of his tour company. The captain agreed and soon found himself a crewman, by the name of Gil'Ir'Gan d'Lyander working for him. Well the company flourished and both the captain and the house were happy. Then one fateful day, they were planning a tour. It was a short one, only three hours long. But they had some special guests this time. A teacher from Morgrave University who was also a Cannith Marked Artificer, a rich dwarf who appeared to be a member of the Aurum, and spoke with a very paculiar accent. He had brought his wife with him, an extremly fussy women who insisted on taking her entire wardrobe along with her in several bags of holding. Also there was Mer'I'Ann d'Phiarlan, one of the houses up and rising young stage stars. Rrounding out the group was a young girl from Zilargo who appeared to be a simply commoner farmgirl. Well the ship went out, but unfortuantly it never came back. The belife is that they may have crashed on one of the islands scattered around near the northern tip of Xen'Drik. Lyander is planing on hiring adventures to find this ship. Even if he is a fool, that young man is still a dragonamrked hier. And there is a lot of money invested in this enterprise. And so adventures come, to seek out Gil'I'Gan's island |
| aelryinth09-06-05, 02:40 AM | You mean Gil ir'Gan's Island, right? ===Aelryinth |
| ParanoidWarforged09-06-05, 04:59 AM | Honestly i don't know how many people here will get this, but if you do, bravo to you. Who's Number One?!?!? Lol i'm fully approving of the Prisoner reference. |
| DyloniusFunk09-06-05, 08:03 AM | Who's Number One?!?!? Lol i'm fully approving of the Prisoner reference. Bravo to you. If i had cookies i would give you one :D the best aprt is you can make Number 1 whoever you want. Dreaming Dark, LoD, Cult of the DB are all good choices. Or it could be the Dark Lantersn themselves, or whatever agency the spy worked for before he resigned. the possibilites re endless. I'm not saure how Rover would work mechanically, maybe a living hold person spell, or some kind of non-lethal sphere shaped Ooze that engulfs peoples but dosen't harm them as it takes them away, And it's great for DM's who like to rotate NPCs since there's never the same Number Two for to long ;) |
| UnkemptSage09-06-05, 11:17 AM | An artificer makes an incredible discovery that could very well provide evidence of the existence of the gods. In his own private laboratory, deep beneath the Library of Korranberg (or whatever institution you think would be more appropriate), he has managed to create physical matter, alongside magical energy, seemingly from nothing! The magical energy, however, is potent stuff that is capable of completely wiping out physical material in an instant if it comes into contact with it, so he has to keep it isolated in a magical container that he has to regularly infuse to keep active. A mysterious assassin kills him, however, and uses his eye to bypass the wards in his laboratory, and steels the container with the largest amount of anti-material magic in it. The other containers don't contain enough of the energy to cause any significant damage, but the missing container is enough to wipe out a city! Soon, a note is found in Flamekeep that the anti-material magic is hidden somewhere in the area, and that in 24 hours time, all of Flamekeep will cease to exist! Bonus points to anyone who knows where I got the inspiration for that one ;) |

A girl, who, upon attaining womanhood, sense the nearby presence of mindflayers through a series of shooting pains in the abdominal area. She finds herself trained under the watchful eye of a Chamber agent, who trains her in her newfound abilities, while she studies at Morgrave University. It is eventually revealed that Morgrave lies upon a sealed portal to Xoriat, and she gains several allies... including... A powerful wizardess A reformed demoness A plucky human fighter/Rogue/Master Inquisitive with sarcastic wit An angst-filled vampire with a soul Another vampire with a soul and no angst (and better acting talent) |

| zambuka09-06-05, 08:54 PM | I didn't bother reading it. If you want people to take you seriously, follow zambuka's advice. This isn't real-time, so run your posts though MS Word from now on. Well I removed that. But after reading, or at least trying to read, DyloniusFunk's other posts I will repeat it. This is not live, not real time, it is not a chat channel, there is no race to get your posts up so take the time to make it readable. The shear amount of spelling errors and transposed letters makes your posts a pain to read, which is a shame because you have some great ideas. Make use of the preview post button, type a little slower, compose your words in your mind before comitting them to text. Don't just vomit your thoughts into the keyboard. I'm usually more subtle with my spelling naziism (see my sig), but your posts are hard to read, even by forum standards. But back on topic. An airship exploring Xen'Drik crashes leaving the crew and passengers trapped in the middle of a harsh and hostile desert. Surrounded by drow and dealing with dwindling water supplies the survivers must find a way to escape. One gnomish artificer, a shipwright who designs airships, has an idea. There is enough left of the airship, and the elemental ring is intact enough that they can build a new ship. The PCs are tasked with searching the area for needed components, a new elemental and maybe even trade for water and supplies with the natives, provided they don't commit some major diplomatic blunder and turn the drow from unfriendly to hostile. Can they survive the hostile conditions, rising tensions and potentially bloodthirsty natives long enough to rebuild the ship? And why is the water supply dwindling so fast? Is someone helping themself or is something else at work here? |
| Tek09-06-05, 09:36 PM | That's just crazy, zambuka! And I log on here, ready to post my idea, and I find it already taken! The irony! |

| DyloniusFunk09-07-05, 12:53 AM | Ok well i went ahead and edited my other posts, hopefully they are more readable now. I also find it somewhat amuseing that the day i write upa Gilligan's Island parody, Bob Denver dies. :( Anyway, this isn't really a plot hook, but could be used as a group of NPC's if you want to lighten up the campaign a bit. A group of friends who live in Sharn, they do everytihng together. They live in apartments in one of the more middle class districts of Sharn, and are just trying to understand life, and love. The group consists of a young human female who recently ran out on her weeding, and is trying to make her way in the big city on her own. She ends up living with her best friend. Her friend is a Ghilinda marked halfling who is a chef at one of the most prestigious restaurants in Sharn. Her brother is a Proffesor at Morgrave who is also a trained Palentolegist who often does studies on the remains of dinosaurs out in the Plains, and has been to Xen'drik on several occasions. They have several friends. One is a actor employed by House Tharuni but unmarked. He spends his time alternating between looking for gigs in the city, picking up women, eating and watching local sporting events. Another friend is a human who does something to do with numbers. None of them really know what exactly he does, but it has something to do with accounting for House Cannith. He has terible luck with women. Lastly is a Female Kalistar Psion. She is a bit flaky and can be a ditz, but she's good friends with the rest of the group, And so this oddball group live thier lives together knwoing that they''ll all be there for the others. Ok i admit that was lame. the idea came to me and i tried to make it convert to Ebberon as best i could. I'm going to assume everyone knows what i'm talking about but if not i'll reveal it later. I didn't use names because i couldn't figure out a way to make "funny" Ebberon names, and didn't want to use the regular names. |
| realdm09-07-05, 11:07 AM | I am not a number, i am a free man anyway if what you say its true, the halfling professor will marry the human female, creating half halfing kids..a new race that we'll find in races of eberron 2 |

Well maybe it dosen't have to happen that way. Heck she could end up with the Tharuni actor. Frankly that would have made a more interesting pairing in the actuall show |
| Beleriphon09-07-05, 01:05 PM | You're right, that is way off, although it's a nice try. I'll give a hint: it's from a novel. Angels and Demons. That would be the reference, the problem with the story is that antimatter doesn't really work that way. The science has alot to do with neutrinos that by all accounts don't intereact with normal matter. That being said, in Eberrron some with eldritch machine thing would be fun. |
| UnkemptSage09-07-05, 02:11 PM | Now I remember... Angels & Demons Bingo. |
| getyourspotusa09-07-05, 02:46 PM | very much an 'in general' type post. Great shows on tv: NYPD Blue and the Law and Order series. One could make a series of adventures about a criminal/courtroom drama, starting from investigation and going through a trial. Pick one of the nearly 1000 plots - then twist it up a bit. :) |
| DyloniusFunk09-08-05, 01:23 AM | The PCs are asked to assist a new organization that's setting up shop in Sharn. it's called CTU andit's goal is to prevent terrorost activites in Breland. The heroes meet one of the top agents, Jack Bauer, a CG Human Male expert 4/Fighter 2. Jack is currently reciveing information on a plot to assissnate King Boranel during a grand celebration being held in Sharn this day to celebrate the city's anniversary. Jack and his partners Nina and Tony are working to find out who is behind the possible assisnation and stop them. But it's not going to be that easy. It's belived that there's a spy in the CTU headquarters, and unknown to anyone , Jack's daughter has been kidnapped by guys she meet when she snuck out of the house. Each game sesion will last one hour of game time, and run for 24 sessions. Welcome to 24:The Unaired Season. |
| Errant09-08-05, 09:23 PM | A heavily armed rescue team, lead by a dragonmarked heir of House Lyrander and his warforged bodyguard, is assembled to investigate the fate of a House Lyrander dragonshard mining expedition in Xen’drik. For six months fortnightly airships would deliver supplies and return with exceptional finds. Now all contact has been lost. The last message received from the commandant mentioned discovery of some promising new caverns but the next assigned airship didn’t return. On arrival at the expedition base the rescue team finds the stockade abandoned and in disarray. Barricades block doors, windows and hallways and there are signs of desperate fighting. There is one survivor, a female halfling living in the stockade's hidden dragonshard storeroom. Finding the caverns the rescue team realises they are unstable and the team leader, an inexperienced dragonmarked Deneith officer, forbids the use of area effect magic. As the team ventures inside they find many of the walls seemingly melted into weird shapes. In the depths, the team finds another expedition survivor, half sealed in the cavern wall and as they try to free him, creatures rush out of the shadows… |
| Tek09-08-05, 10:58 PM | I can't place that one. Atfirst, I was thinking "The Thing," but it just doesn't seem like it. |
| demmons09-08-05, 11:34 PM | I believe it's Congo. Oh wait it could be Aliens as well. |
| demmons09-08-05, 11:53 PM | A party of exploring Cyre find a clue to the Day of Mourning and a device. The device sends them back in time to before the fall with a chance to stop the event. The Lord of Blades finds out and uses the device to send a Warforged Juggernaught to stop them. |
| Errant09-09-05, 05:00 AM | I can't place that one. Atfirst, I was thinking "The Thing," but it just doesn't seem like it. Heavily armed team with a company man, an "android" & little girl the sole survivor, restricted weapons on first contact... doesn't scream Aliens? (Cool, my players might not recognise until too late too, bwahaha). I didn't think of congo but that would fit almost as well I guess. |

| Tek09-09-05, 05:08 AM | A House Deneith mercenary party recruits the PC's to aid them on a search and rescue attempt deep in the frostfell. Another mining expedition for dragonshards as suddenly stopped communicating, and the Deneith's want to find out what's up. Apon reaching the area, they find everyone dead or frozen. Amazingly, they find a single wolf in a pen of animals, and one of the mercenaries takes a liking to him. Turns out the miners dug deep into Khyber and angered one of the Daelkyr, so much that it twisted anything living into something else.. some Thing. Now, the parasite tries to spread by consuming the others and mimicing them perfectly. The only way to kill the thing's that normal people soon become is with fire. |
| Tek09-09-05, 05:11 AM | For this to work, players need ties to Kalashtar. A group of the rogue Kalashtar wish to strike somewhere they haven't before in their war against the Inspired. They think that by freeing the Riedrans from their slavary that they can make the inspired helpless and soon gain victory. Thus, they recruit the PC's to help them turn aspiring Riedrans to their side of the war. The PC's have to help the Riedrans 'get out' of Riedra while the agents of the Inspired hunt them down and try and destroy everything. Once free from Riedra, the PC's along with the Kalashtar must convince them that they were 'living in a dream world,' where they were slaves to something and they didn't even know it. |
| Sereno09-09-05, 09:36 AM | Since Tek's latest is "The Thing", and it sounds like the John Carpenter/Kurt Russel version, here's another based on a Kurt Russel movie: The PCs move to a frontier town -- Q'Barra, the Reaches, someplace like that -- and try to set up shop and become members of the community. It's a fairly lawless sort of town, growing faster than the local law enforcement can keep up with; and the PCs soon run afoul of a criminal organization known by the red sashes they wear. After some minor skirmishes -- fist-fights, throwing a couple of guys out of their favorite tavern -- the PCs get involved in a big public showdown with some of the criminals. Some important members of the criminal gang get killed and the rest of them want revenge. A war begins between the criminal gang and the PCs. The PCs eventually hunt down every last member of the gang. Great quote: "I see a red sash ... I kill the man wearin' it!" |
| demmons09-09-05, 10:02 PM | Ah yes one of my favorites "Big Trouble in Little China". |
| Radkres09-09-05, 10:59 PM | I think he is talking about Tombstone. |
| Sereno09-12-05, 11:00 AM | I think he is talking about Tombstone. Correct! That is "Tombstone." A great Big Trouble in Little China quote would be "It's all in the reflexes." :) |
| Tek09-12-05, 05:11 PM | See if you can get this one. The campaign needs to start out with the Last War RECENTLY finishing. The PC's would probably need to be Karrn's who were fighting the Valenar on the southern front. With the war ended, everyone's ready to go home. That is, until one of the PC's finds a map on a dead Valenar. A map that details hundreds of stocks of gold right inside a small Valenar town. The PC's decide to try for it and head deep into Valenar. Apon reaching the town, they find that it's populated mainly with displaced humans and Cyrans that remained when Valenar split off from Cyre, and they're under a heavy oppression by the elves. This isn't what the PC's came for, however, and they quickly find the deposits of gold and start loading them onto wagons. Unfortunately, a Valenar warband rides into the town. By chance, they are not hostile, and allow the PC's to take the gold for some odd reason. However, they start killing certain villagers infront of the whole town, in a brutal, disgusting way. The PC's most likely get involved, and end up on the run from the Valenar. Who do they help? The helpless Cyrans or themselves, and get the gold out? |

An excellent film and would make for an excellent campaign backdrop. |
| yrogerg09-14-05, 09:16 PM | Two Radiant Idols are returning from the outskirts of Sharn with the final piece of a Eldritch Machine that they believe will allow them to return to Syrannia when the plane is coterminous, an event that will occur in a matter of days. Unbeknownst to them, the device will do no such thing- rather, it will weaken a seal below Sharn that will allow a powerful Fiend to escape his prison. It will also have an "unintended side-effect" of destroying Sharn's manifest zone, bringing the City of Towers crashing down, and instead turning the area into a manifest zone of, oh, I dunno... say, Xoriat. Obviously, the Church of the Silver flame would take exception to this, if they knew. However, they don't, and most of the priests in Sharn are too corrupt to do anything; a dragon from the Chamber cares, though, and he's read the signs: together with a Gatekeeper Druid, he needs to seek out a party of adventurers that has been Prophesized as important in foiling this crisis. Can this they convince the party of the very real danger? Will the party take up the cause they're destined for? Will they expose the more sinister manipulator behind these events? (A Rakshasa, duh.) And most importantly, will they manage to arrive in time to stop Loki and Bartleb the Radiant Idols? |
| yossarius09-14-05, 09:45 PM | A couple of general ideas (sorry, no guessing required): Inspiration for a quest into the Mournland to discover the cause of the Mourning: Event Horizon (VERY spooky, might make a really good horror adventure) Inspiration for the 'flavor' of Sharn, and especially the question of how it is that 'evil' characters can still be 'good guys': Frank Miller's Sin City (as far as I'm concerned, Sin City IS Sharn) |

| demmons09-14-05, 10:59 PM | Hmmm mind is bouncing from story to story....sounds a little like First Wave.... or Codename: Eternity, or some Charlie Sheen movie I can't remember the title to with some aliens trying to move in....Even seems similar to The Fith Element....course as you can see I'm not quite sure. :) |
| zambuka09-14-05, 11:25 PM | Just to be stand up for DyloniusFunk a bit... the word you were looking for is sheer, not shear. Shear is what you do to a sheep. Ironic place for a spelling error! Additionally, "someone helping themself" is poor english, in terms of tense. "Someone helping themselves" is what you meant to say. ;) Fair enough. It wasn't the spelling errors on their own, it was the sheer number of spelling errors turning many of the words into near nonsense and relying on their context to figure out what the word was supposed to be. There is no excuse for the number of errors presented when you can go back and edit what you wrote, preview before posting, or at least run through a word processor and spell check before copying and pasting back into the form. There is room for occasional error in a casual forum like this, just no excuse for a large number of errors, particularly when it is the thread starter. Grammatical errors are a different matter and are tolerated more in an informal place like this. So while "someone helping themself" is poor use of English it is not, strictly speaking, incorrect, and is quite acceptable in casual text. But, regardless of my inconsistency and the irony of my own wrong word use, my main point remains; this is not live, take the time, slow down, there is no need to type so fast, there is no need to rush as your post won't be seen until you press that submit button, it's not the end of the world if someone else gets a post or two in before your respons. If this was a live chat, like IRC, ICQ or any of the other IMs then his spelling would be much more tolerable (although barely, as trying to type so fast when you are so error prone just makes you look a little foolish). If you are an ESL then that changes things dramatically. He has gone back and done a pretty good job editing and correcting the errors and making his good ideas easily readable. |
| yrogerg09-15-05, 01:09 AM | :teach: Actually, in terms of subject-subject agreement, it should be someone helping themself. Ehh, if themself were a word in the first place. Which it isn't, unless OED is your bible. :P Because someone is singular. The real reason it seems awkward is the deeply awkward habit that we have in english of trying to be PC by using the plural as a gender-neutral third-person singular. Themselves, while better english, would actually end up being less grammatical. I personally don't see what's wrong with gendered ambiguous singulars: I mean, it's okay in romance languages to presume the male absent more information, and the language is a lot less awkward for it. Either that, or we could just start using 'it' to refer to people more often. |
| DyloniusFunk09-15-05, 11:34 AM | Two Radiant Idols are returning from the outskirts of Sharn with the final piece of a Eldritch Machine that they believe will allow them to return to Syrannia when the plane is coterminous, an event that will occur in a matter of days. Very nice re-interpeting Dogma. I do wonder if it's possible to have all the characters from the film. What would Jay and SIlent Bob be in Ebberon for example. |

| Shining_Hand09-16-05, 01:43 AM | - A preditor take off? A sighting of a strange vessel above the eldeen reaches, coincides with a group of black lanterns going missing after investigating a shifter community. (for what ever reason). The PCs are called to investigate and delve into a dense portion of the Reaches to find the lanterns. During the journey members of the party begin to start disappearing (or perhaps some lantern operatives assigned as back up, depending on how expendable your players are) during the night. As time goes on, they find themselves at the mercy of a single seemingly invisible foe picking them off one by one. In the end it turns out to be malicious drow field testing a prototype elemental bound vessel that shot him far from his homeland, and is now has been hunting all that crosses his path, searching their bodies for items that could help in the repair of his vessel. The drow sports a range of magical items - A wand 'sheath' fitted to his shoulder that fires magical projectiles A Ring that renders him almost totally invisible Boots that allow him to jump long distances And other drow-type weaponry. **Other ideas that could be used as fluff -5th Element Takeoff  The Pcs are being perused by one of the many different law enforcement factions in sharn, and are finally cut off, stranded on a bridge spanning two towers. Their choices are to ether turn themselves in, or leap off into the Soarsled busy traffic below. If they are desperate enough, after a few seconds of free fall, and perhaps a timely activation of a feather fall token, they crash through the canopy of a soarsled. The driver 'pulls over' and inspects his previously empty passenger cabin. "Any survivors?" If the Pcs are lucky, they have only sustained minor falling damage, and are able to ether restrain the driver, or persuade him to elude the soadsleds about to pull up beside him, that are brimming with (insert law enforcement here). A action pact sky chase follows! Be sure to play that awesome Indian music as in the movie as the chase begins! - Star Trek Voyager Take off - Thats right :D The PCs are called to a house lyrandar docking tower, to partake in a dangerous mission of the utmost importance. The airship they are to board is apparently of new design and still quite experimental, and on approaching the docking platform they are transported directly into it by way of some type of teleportation magic. The chamber they arrive in unbeknownst to them is fitted with a new type of gnomish illusionary magic that transforms the surroundings into anything the operator wishes. It also can make the room seem MUCH larger than it actually is, and mimic most types of weather. The PCs are then ran through a facade, and perhaps even a mock mini quest in itself which could range from them thinking they aren’t on the ship at all, or perhaps on board a replica air ship, all of which is totally an illusion. On completing the 'quest' or proving to the ships captain and crew that they are capable to take on what is ahead of them, the rooms magic is shut off, and the PCs are presented with the REAL lyrander airship, and an official greeting of the captain. "Welcome aboard!" |
| yrogerg11-15-05, 05:18 PM | My roomate had a fairly clever one for Dirk, his Warforged character in the campaign we're both in: INT. NIGHT. Somewhere on the outskirts of the city of Metrol, in a tumbledown, forgotten slum. The camera pans back from the vaguely luminescent, unblinking eyes of DIRK THE WARFORGED, until we can see that he is bound to a crude iron throne by chains of tempered adamantine, against which he struggles uselessly. His lithe, mithral-coated body is dinged and scraped from a pitched battle and his sword lies just out of reach. Dwarfing him is the shape of a huge WARFORGED JUGGERNAUT, almost the size of a warforged titan, bristling with gleaming adamantine spikes, next to which DIRK's body looks pathetic, almost human. The JUGGERNAUNT restlessly paces back and forth across the rooftop, moonlight reflecting off his sunken features, his form indistinct, wreathed in shadow. As we watch, DIRK continues to vainly struggle against his bonds and finally gives up, slumping his head in defeat. The JUGGERNAUT raises a sextant toward the sky, carefully measuring the angles between the twelve moons. He spends some time watching four celestial bodies in particular, all unusually bright and close together on this night, hovering very close to the zenith of Metrol's night sky. Astrologically trained viewers will recognize them as Zarantyr, the Storm Moon, Eyre, the Anvil, Sypheros, the Shadow and Aryth, the Gateway. The JUGGERNAUT quietly walks over to the railing and manipulates a few levers on what we slowly realize is a control console of some kind, and suddenly we pan backward to see a strange array of armatures and lenses silently moving overhead, scattering a pattern of colored moonlight over the floor, which we now see is unnaturally smooth and reflective. A shimmering glow of arcane magic begins to rise from the floor, and tiny, evanescent sparks begin to jump continuously among the different armatures, in an almost harmonious hum. We begin to realize that what we thought was the rooftop of what, from street level, probably appears to be an ordinary rundown house of apartments, is actually the apex of a cleverly disguised ELDRITCH MACHINE, CAPABLE OF HARNESSING UNKNOWN POWERS FROM DISTANT PLANES WITH THE CAPACITY TO, POSSIBLY, DESTROY ALL ORGANIC LIFE WITHIN THE KINGDOM OF CYRE. The JUGGERNAUT whirls to face DIRK, his eyes flooded with the cold, unliving red glow of an iron golem's. He puts a huge battlefisted arm around his shoulder, in an almost friendly way. Then we notice the wand of disable construct gripped between the thumb and forefinger of his other hand. He slides the wand forcefully into DIRK's mouth, and speaks in a deep, seductive voice... JUGGERNAUT: Three minutes. He looks out over the Metrol skyline. JUGGERNAUT: This is it: Ground zero. Would you like to say a few words to mark the occasion? DIRK: (muffled) I... I ca't... thi... uv... anyfin... (he wriggles his head and works the wand out of his mouth) I can't think of anything. DIRK looks deep in the glowing red eyes of the JUGGERNAUT, lost in his thoughts, and we zoom back in on DIRK's eyes, the JUGGERNAUT's red glow reflected within, and as we dissolve to flashback we hear: DIRK (V/O): People were always asking me, did I know the Lord of Blades... |
| Setsuna Moto11-16-05, 12:13 AM | In Sharn at morgrave university a master artificer, his ex girlfriend, her brother, and another university artificer with a grumpy disposition believe they have discovered knowledge in ancient giant texts referring to magical flux on Xen'drik that recurrs at a certain time interval, roughly every 20,000 years. They wish to run an expensive expedition to experiment but need to make an alliance with the rival to fund the expedition (they need a suitable airship loaded with dragonshard artifacts to harness the magic of this fluctuation). Unfortunately they get caught in the magical flux and while recovering in Morgrave they discover oddities. The artificer finds he has elastic limbs. The woman was experimenting with an invisibility spell during the flux and finds she is imbued with the magic of that spell and can activate it at will. Her flamboyant brother goes out partying at the Glitterdust Nightclub and spontaneously combusts (he was infused by the power of the fire-elemental which powered their airship), and their other colleague somehow becomes imprisoned in the body of a Warforged Juggernaut. (Here we have The Fantastic Four - Eberron Style) |
| BrainInAJar11-16-05, 12:37 AM | A young officer in the Sharn watch is almost killed when he confronts a pair of dangerous criminals. He survives a crossbow bolt to the head only by being taken in by a rich businessman, Fredrick Knight. After recieving reconstructive magic, the young officer takes Fredrick's last name, and promises to work for him. Just then, a group of artificers, working for the rich man, announce that their latest project is finished - placing the 'brain' of a warforged within a skycoach. The young Knight is given ownership of the Warforged Implanted Traveller Twenty, or W.I.T.T. for short. Knight, with the aid of W.I.T.T.'s reinforced hull and other gadgetry takes a vigilante stance against crime ignored by the watch. "Tower Rider! A shadowy flight into the dangerous world of a man who does not exist: Kerryn Knight — a young loner on a crusade to champion the cause of the innocent, the helpless, the powerless, in a city of criminals who operate above the law." :D |
| LaoKhanWei11-16-05, 05:37 AM | These are all good and fine, but can anyone successfully convert Fist of the North Star into Eberron? |
| Rocksa11-16-05, 05:05 PM | Hrmm...I've got a couple that I can't believe haven't been done yet...or am amazed that I was able to overlook them if they were. A passenger airship travelling from Stormkeep and bound for Sharn runs afoul of an almost supernatural storm (or maybe it was supernatural) that ends up ripping the ship in two, sending it plummeting to an abandoned island (or maybe it's not) below. The PC's are all survivors from the front half of the ship, the rear end is nowhere to be found. The survivors quickly find that any attempt at communication magic or powers fail, and that any teleport abilities (if any) also fail to function, it's as if the entire island is one huge dead magic zone. After that many mysterious things happen, a monster begins attacking in the night (or maybe it's just some guy, or an alien, or a being from another plane, or somebody frickin' timetraveled and started hunting down survivors that would threaten the balance of...anyway) the survivors begin seeing patterns between their former lives and things found on the island, (like the big guy and the numbers). Alright, so maybe The Lost isn't a great idea for this, too many mysteries. ------------------------------ The PC's are sent to find a book that was last known to be in a cabin on the Karnath-Cyre border. After making a short traverse into the Mournlands the PC's find the cabin, however they also find a one handed man stranded inside who seems to be completely insane. After subduing the man and placing him into the root cellar the group finds the book they were looking for, along with a magical device that records and playsback sounds. Should one of the PC's activate the device they will hear the voice of the Morgrave Professor who was here translating the book, he talks of the things living in the woods, in the darkness, between reality, and proceeds to read a passage from the book. A spell. A spell to release those dark things. Klatu Verona Nicto. After this all hell breaks loose, PC's (or preferably NPC's) in the group suddenly become possessed and scream such things as, "I'll swallow your soul". As the night wears on, the trees themselves become animate and try to attack the group. Any dead buried may rise up and also attack the group. The animal heads on the wall may end up attacking the group, as well as the furniture. The group my even come under attack from their own hands. Yep, Evil Dead. The crazy stuff just fits right in in the mournlands, heck, you could probably place this right before the Day of Mourning and base a whole campaign around the Necronomicon and the Deadites. The book's the cause for the mourning, the PC's travel back in time because of the book to try and stop the Daelkyr (or Quori, or maybe the demons, you decide) during their invasion. PC's end up back in their own time, have to stop some crazy Morgrave guy from reading the book at a lecture in Sharn. More crazy happenings ensue. ---------------- A Cyran military man by the name of Malren ir'Nolds, comes into possession of a Firefly class airship after the end of the last war. He finds himself blaming the remaining nations and superpowers for the destruction of Cyre, and is especially angry at Cyre's exclusion from the Treaty of Thronehold, as well as the other nations general disliking of all things Cyran. Malren gathers a crew and attempts to do as honest of work as he can despite the fact that several of his crew members are renegade dragonmarked house members and two of them are wanted by The Twelve. It's way too late for me to be up(exams in the morning and such), but I'll try to come up with something. Ooh, nice. I'm picturing a group of experimental warforged, designed with unusually great power (very high ability scores, class levels, and maybe some custom Body feats) at the cost of extremely limited operating lifetime, making their way out of the Mournland and arriving in Sharn, carving a bloody path through senior House Cannith artificers who were involved in the experiment, in order to face their creator, Merrix d'Cannith. The only ones who can stop them are a group of special inquisitive agents in the Watch's prejudice-riddled Special Warforged Crimes Unit, who - since they often clash with agents of the Lord of Blades - have become colloquially known as the Bladerunners. |
| synth11-17-05, 09:21 AM | MarkB, you once again amaze me. You have taken a spur of the moment idea and fleshed it out into an excellent hook. You even managed to include the original movie title in a meaningful and gripping way! I mean, I didn't even think of the connection with LoB. Great job. This is precisely why I decided to forgo trying myself. |

Then they really are "replicants" as they LOOK like everyone else. edit: Ooh, or Half-Dealkyr that hide their symbiots (and the symbiots kill them off after a short while to hide "the truth"). |
| Rocksa11-17-05, 01:07 PM | Hrmm...Jeepers Creepers 2? A large group Morgrave students are returning home after exploring an ancient goblin ziggurat in the middle of nowhere. All that lays around them is farmland with no houses visible from the road. They travel in a special made, elongated elemental land cart made especially for carrying passengers. Everything goes smoothly enough for a time, it's a long ride, boring, but eventually the cart suddenly stops as one of the wheels snap. The students all worry as the only adults in the group (the driver, a teacher and his aide) get out and examine the cart to see what has just happened. Upon examination the adults see that the wheel was broken by a xen'drik boomerang that has seemingly been made from humanoid bones and remains. The adults quickly fix the wheel using the only spare and travel on down the road. Everything's fine until one of the girls begins to have visions of a man with no eyes telling her to turn back before 'it' gets to them, she awakes when the rear wheel snaps again, leaving them all stranded in the middle of nowhere. After that a half-fiend drow fleshwarper begins to assault the students, picking off the adults first and then only certain students that have a certain something that it desires (that certain something being body parts, eyes, heads, tongues, etc.) The PC's could receive one of the students troubled sendings for help, or perhaps are the students themselves. And if anybody has any ideas on how to make the monster more true to what it is then go ahead and feel free to add to it. |
| Quijenoth11-18-05, 06:04 AM | General Post: I been thinking about attempting an Eberron based Campaign (have the Campaign setting and Sharn Book) and came here for inspiration. While reading these film conversions I came up with a rough outline of one myself. The PCs encounter a highly advanced Warforged. He is on a quest to assassinate a Human Female who works in a Tavern. The PCs must first defeat this Warforged and protect the Female. 15 years later the PCs must help the same warforged protect the Female and her 14 year old son. Finally, 10 years later. The PCs are called once again to help the Son (now 24) defeat an organisation who is attempting to unify the warforged into one collective mind that can be controlled into the most destructive army ever to walk the earth. yup its simple 3 film plot line and i think it would work well as a low-level/ mid-level/ then high level sections to a longer campaign. I then had the thought of taking it into Epic level by having The PCs taken forward in time to defeat the warforged army of collective minds who have developed a way to assimilate any race into their collective mind by using warforged implants. I know you guys like to guess (and even though this is almost too easy ;)) heres the spoiler low-level = Terminator mid-level = Terminator 2, Judgement Day high level = Terminator 3, Rise of the Machines Epic-level = Any Star Trek plot involving the Borg (First Contact maybe?) Now since i have only just started to read these books is there anything you veteran Eberron DMs can help with regards to organisations, Locations, NPCs who would fit with the minimum effort for this? |
