They were already well established in the RPG community, each with a dedicated following. When time came to convert these settings to d20, fans already knew what to expect. They knew what to demand! Oriental Adventures came packaged with Lot5R. OA a well known D&D supplement and Lot5R a rich setting well solidified in the minds of its fans. It too had to live up to expectations. Even Planescape has enough of a following that when an official d20 conversion is written, there will be many a discerning eye pouring over each page to ensure it captures the essence of the original. Eberron is in a world of its own. It is all new. Unfamiliar territory. A fresh d20 setting for the D&D universe. The chapters are written, but the book is far from closed. What Eberron could, should, and will be is yet to be discovered. Though this in itself is exceptinal, it is not the whole of it. How these things will become known is where Eberron really stands alone. This may be the first opportunity in D&D history for designers to take advantage of the internet. Never before has there been access to immediate feedback and information from consumers during a setting’s creation as there is presently with these very boards. Now there is a place for all interested gamers to gather and share thoughts on an ongoing project, helping to forge its future in real time. Already it is evident that gamers are testing the waters before delving straight in. Initial opinions and scattered questions seem to pervade most of the posts on the Eberron boards. Each gamer waits, wondering what direction another might go with it. Will it be the designers who steer the course? Or is it they who wait? Watching from the sidelines to see how it is received, learning which direction the gaming community would see it go. Will it be an average gamer that dreams up the unexpected, sending Eberron to its next level? Will it be you? We now share the unpresidented opportuntity to attempt just that. |
