| Grug the Just02-28-05, 02:10 AM | I should begin by saying that I will have run through "The Forgotten Forge", "Shadows of the Last War", "Whispers of the Vampire's Blade" and "Grasp of the Emerald Claw" (hmm I just noticed the pattern in titles with the last three) by the time I plan to start this adventure. Also, I really enjoy nice "set battles" and I also tend to use pre-exsisting rules as a precedent for anything I apply to my game. Finally, any critisism, comments and suggestions are welcome. I'm just going to essentially jot down some of the ideas I have for story, enemies, plot ect. -Main enemy: (Still needs a name) a once great elven monk whos body had been interred in a consecrated tomb. His tomb had been recently looted. Once his body had gone beyond the consecrated/hallowed area it came under assault by demon spirits intent on possessing this once powerful corpse. Even long after death his body managed to shrug off attempts by many of these spirits to possess his lifeless corpse. However, 13 (I'd like to reinforce the 13 theme Eberron has going.) of these demons managed to enter and subsequently animate his corpse to it's old glory. (This is a big rules alteration to the possesion rules I know but I'll explain) These evil ghosts managed to permeate the body and each demon spirit giving slight enhancements to it. (This will be balanced by their sparadic control over the body because of near constant in-fighting between them all) -The Demon Spirits: Each of the 13 will have names and associated powers. When one of these demons are sealed away (read below) the others will get progressively stronger until the final one will make itself whole and will then be fought. -Sealing the Demons: This will require a lost Silver Flame artifact in a church the Mournlands. This spear/trident (I'm not sure which would look cooler when decribed.) will only work when used against a pinned or otherwise bound foe. When used, each demon in the body will need to make a Will saved or be forced out. (Made more diffucult to fail as their individual power grows) Also, up to three demons can be sealed maximum per day. (Making this a fight that will require some chase in between.) -Problem at the Church: The church is currently inhabited by a crazed rust dragon. (from Draconomicon, and a dragon magazine provides the wandering dragon psychosis template) She wanders through this fortress of a church using the majority of her sorcerous power to fuel one huge illusion effect that envelopes the place. The rest of her spells will be used following the PC's through the church via spider climb, and used reading their thoughts to manipulate the illusions as she sees fit. The reason for her neverending dream: a rust proof sword lodged in her skull. (Suspension of dis-belief for mechanics here on why not pull it out) She doesn't dare pull it out for fear of bleeding to deal in the Mournlands, where healing is nigh unto impossible. Now if the PC's realize the dragon is good and they try and help her either by disspelling the sword and therefore rusting it away they will rewarded for a clever plan. (Although I expect them to charge head long into melee when they reach the hoard.) Either way, after clearing many illusion filled rooms, some with phantom foes and some real they will find what the were looking for in a vault below the dragon's hoard. Any ideas are gladly welcomed. I still need a way to kick this off, keep in mind the will almost possitively be staring from Sharn. |
| MarkB02-28-05, 04:35 AM | This looks like an excellent adventure - I love the basic ideas of the multi-demon possession and the Mournland church with the rust dragon. I think the Silver Flame weapon will be better as a trident - it's a decent piercing martial weapon, and thus appropriate to the Silver Flame (one of my characters, a paladin, wields a flametouched-iron trident with a Frost enhancement called Cold Fire - its three tines are shaped like tongues of flame, and when the Frost enhancement is activated, they become wreathed in silvery flames). I suggest initially having your players believe that the elf is possessed by a single, powerful demon (but give hints that it might be otherwise, in the form of the elf displaying multiple-personality traits). Only when they successfully bind the demon, and another steps into its place and has the badly-wounded shell retreat via use of magic do they find out for sure that they're up against multiple demons. |
| Grug the Just02-28-05, 09:59 PM | Actually, for the multiple possesion I was imagining that when the body was struck I was going to roll randomly (initially until called shots were made) for a location, if say the body was struck in the leg the monk would dissapear and a small demon would be pinned to the floor and sucks into the trident. Also, each demon has an associated power and location within the body, in this instance this might reduce his speed to more corpse like levels. I hate to use this as a reference here but it's the easiest way to say it. If you've ever seen the movie The One with Jet Li (Jackie Chan is better in my opinion) where-in evil alternate Jet Li is killing off the other "hims" in order for the universe's power to be focused on himself instead of spread out to the others. Well, in this case the demons are Jet Li and the host is the universe. When only one remains he will have transcended into the material realm and they will have one tough battle on their hands. (god help them if it's the one associated with strength) They will shortly find out that multiple demons are present and they may then start aiming for specific locations to hit with the trident after the first few. I'm gonna go with the Trident suggestion because it would look cooler than a spear. I was thinking of it described: the three tines are angular and the two outer ones are silver whereas the center, which is as large as the other two, is made from cold iron. The haft (I think haft is correct here) is shod in flametouched iron and the whole thing is lighter than its materials would allow. At the center of the head of the weapon, right where the tines meet, there is a silvery translucent gem that almost seems to contain a flame inside of it. Hanging from just below it is a silver ribbon studded with small charms depicting demons in cowed poses. And when they capture a demon the gem shows an image of tha or those demons suffering in the flames. |
