| Phase02-02-06, 04:28 AM | Just wonder how these two would meld together, if possible... Would it be balanced to intertwice the two? |
| Setherial02-02-06, 04:40 AM | no, the very core of the two settings is totally oposite in many ways. You can ofcourse use bits and pieces you liked in FR and import them into Eberron. It's up to you. |
| Misericordia02-02-06, 07:52 AM | i think it's a difficult jobto join eberron and FR because they are very different about a lot of things... :( :( :( bye bye.....:D |
| DarkWarriorKarg02-02-06, 08:33 AM | Dieties FR dieties personally appear & dictate "The Truth". Eberron dieties are, for all intents and purposes, nonexistant Cosmology The only planes in common are the Ethereal, Shadow & Astral planes. Religion All eberron priests are basically philosophical priests, as the dieties are effectively nonexistant. Item Creation In FR, Mystra controls the Weave, Shar the Shadow weave. In eberron, there is no such division (OK, Aureon/Shadow could lend itself to that, but in Eberron, there is no split bwtween the two) So... no. |
| Raziel_Brokodar02-02-06, 08:54 AM | Combining the two would create a rupture in space and time... so no... it should never be done... |
| DwarfPcfan02-02-06, 10:12 AM | Why would you even want to combine the settings ?!? The thing that makes both settings enjoyable to players is that they ARE different and seperated. I respect FR players even if I have A LOT of grievances against FR, having been turned away when they went too far ( and afterwards kept on going further and further...) Anyway everything that makes one setting is anthema to the other, Plus as Eberron is my favorite CS ( as a matter of fact THE BEST CS, so far, according to me), I want it to stay Eberron, if we mix them then we kill Eberron, leaving me to switch over to Iron Kingdoms or back into good ol Ravenloft and Greyhawk. I'll probably go home a cry for a couple of days first :weep: .... If you have a good Idea then yes you can intergrate bitsand pieces that don't carry too much flavor of FR into Eberron but no big chunks stay in in their original pot. Nothing wrong about using subraces or a few spells, feats and magic items but further then that is a crime is my mind. A crime against the very core of the setting. This idea is completely wrong. Way past criminal, it's betraying Eberron And now I appologize but I have to free the part of me who would have explained it like that. I really dont mean no offence to anyone. I'm really sorry if I did. NO !! NO !!!, :censored: :banghead: :hoppingma :banghead: WHY !?!, WHY !?!, Eberron is at least a million times better then FR. Thats the dumbest f***** idea I ever heard. PEOPLE do something let's not let this happen !!!! :banghead: :censored: :censored: :banghead: :censored: :embarrass Ouff I feel better, once again I appologize for offending anybody. The childish part in me tends to be completely irrational. " My name is the Count of Monte Cristo, but my friends call me Edmon Dantes." |
| lukelightning02-02-06, 10:21 AM | Do you mean some sort of cosmic cross-over? Or just adopting elements of it? It wouldn't be hard to import some FR things into Eberron, but you'd need to be careful about being redundant and keeping the Eberron themes intact (e.g. FR deities are very different in nature from FR deities). I'm not a fan of "cross-overs" like "Elminster and Drizz't fly in a planar ship to Eberron." (this isn't the same as adapting an FR character for Eberron as if they were always part of the campaign..that's fine). People feel this urge to link different campaign settings cosmologically just because they are D&D. Why? Star Wars is D20 to, do you think it's possible for Jedi to fly to Eberron? (I'm not talking about adapting a Jedi-esque class, I'm talking about Luke Skywalker in Sharn). Oh dear, now I've started thinking about "who would win in a fight: Vol or the Emperor? And what would the Lord of Blades think of C3P0? And "Erandis D'Vol you killed my mother!" "I am your mother!" "NOOOOOOOOO!" |
| Tait Ransom02-02-06, 10:27 AM | I love both settings. I ran a great FR campaign two years back, and am currently running an Eberron campaign that's going very well. My players have enjoyed both settings, however, the feel and power level in both is very different. In Eberron, the PCs are going to be the first "epic heroes" in the setting. They'll probably be some of the highest level characters in the setting when all is said and done. It would not fit the feel of either setting to scoop up, say, Silverymoon and drop it somewhere in Khorvaire. Likewise, Sharn wouldn't fit the mood of the Realms if you dropped it in Faerun. In either case, you'd have to do a lot of work to adjust the races and overall power levels. That said, there are elements of either setting that you could transport pretty easily. For example, a Spellfire wielder PrC could be adapted to a Silver Flame PrC, and Artificers would fit in well in Lantan. There are some feats specific to one setting or the other that could be transferred, and some setting specific magic items or spells could be "lost" magic that the PCs uncover in the other setting. I think you're better off using a few bits and pieces here and there than trying to mesh the two. However, your mileage may vary. If you have a good idea and it's something you think your players would enjoy, go for it! |
| alder_zeal02-02-06, 10:34 AM | Story idea In a Battle against x a chosen of Mystra uses Silver fire but some how fails now it is up to you the PC to find this chosen. however this chosen is now trapped inside the silver flame, in Flamekeep. |
| alder_zeal02-02-06, 10:37 AM | Why will no one say a Chosen of Mystra template can be applied to a Church of Silverflame. I mean they both are silver it would be like you tap energies directly from the silver to un leash silver fire into combat.. |
| alder_zeal02-02-06, 10:43 AM | I think an ancient old city south of Sharn on Xen' Drik that is full of life can be adapted to Eberron. The citiy's name is Ptulos. The races of eberron and lion looking catfolk compliment each other very well. |
| Gurv02-02-06, 11:02 AM | Why will no one say a Chosen of Mystra template can be applied to a Church of Silverflame. Well, sure, you can borrow things like Prestige Classes, spells, and magical items from one setting and adapt them to use in another. I think using the FR rules for Silver Fire for something Flame-related in Eberron is perfectly reasonable. You could likewise have someone invent elemental-bound items and vehicles in FR. But that is just borrowing game mechanics. I don't know what kind of "merging" the OP had in mind. But I think that the power level of the two settings, not to mention some of the basic premises of each setting are at odds, if not entirely opposed. The gods and religion are but one of these ways. Cosmology is tricky (not impossible, I know), and there are things like dragonmarks, subraces, and a million other concepts which would have to be explained. I have to agree that merging the settings in any true sense would be difficult. I also think that the process of assimilating the two would require removing the better aspects of both settings, and would result in a seriously sub par game. |
| MoogleEmpMog02-02-06, 12:44 PM | As a devoted, well, devotee of Spelljammer, I'd have to say: yes, you can have reasonably balanced crossovers between Toril and Eberron (along with Serren, Krynn, Oerth, Ningen-Do, Mystara, Caen and Athas, among others). Both planets have interesting history, geography and culture, unique magical traditions, and unique creatures. Travel between them makes for very interesting fish out of water situations. To put it in internet terms: Eberron + Toril = t3h win. Eberron + Forgotten Realms = t3h s\/x0rz. Where's the distinction? For me, the central issue is the meddling gods of FR. My version of Toril is largely exempt from direct divine intervention; it was this way before Eberron and is obviously going to remain thus. Likewise, my Krynn vanished from Known Space for reasons unknown, not because of divine activity. Eberron has unique elements that make its recent discovery important to the Known Spheres (and by 'important,' I mean 'exceedingly dangerous'), but the cosmological inconsistencies are minor at most. Now, if you mean blending the two worlds on a single planet, I don't think it would work very well. The nations of Eberron are much more powerful than their Faerunian equivalents (with a few exceptions) and Faerun's adventuring class vastly outstrips Eberron's. There's no logical reason for such an imbalance if the settings allegedly developed together; each would likely be a bit more like the other, and thus lose some of their unique charm. |
| Seth of the First Brigade02-04-06, 12:34 AM | I think that it could work quite well with the proper time and preparation. Not the actual melding of the two worlds, but something along the lines of an adventure or campaign rather that starts in the Realms or in Eberron, then by some means of gate travel to other worlds winds up on the other. But again it would have to be planned very well, in the since of a campaign theme that involved both worlds, I have actually considered it, and am still considering it for my Eberron campaign, though right now I am partial to Eberron more so than FR. Just my thoughts anyway....Any thoughts in response? |
| Rechan02-04-06, 12:52 AM | I think that one could meld Eberron and FR very well (Meaning: Into one world, not a dimension-hopping game). Namely, take aspects of Eberron and drop it into FR. Artificers and the wide-magic nature of Eberron is easily picturable in places like Haluraa, and you could make the artificer the favored class of Gnomes. Shifters make perfect servants of Milekki and Malar, respectively. Warforged could have been crafted by long ago dwarves to help in some war, but were lost to time. Now, schema and excavation have uncovered them. The kalasthar and Dreaming Dark could have always been there, fighting a war never noticed. Though you'd have to do some fiddling to make sure the Inspired just don't get a high level mage to open up a plane to Dal Quor. Changelings fit in easily. Just *bam*, in. |
| A_Sheep_in_Wolfs_Clothing02-04-06, 09:43 AM | All eberron priests are basically philosophical priests, as the dieties are effectively nonexistant. Actually, I’d say it's just as wrong to say the gods exist as it is to say they don't. No one really knows and Keith Baker isn't going to say one way or the other. And if you're a bit flexible on the term "deity" then one could say that some do indeed, such as the Silver Flame and the Undying Court, not to mention the fact that Keith has already said that the most powerful fiends and Dragons may well have a few Divine Ranks, making them, effectively, Gods. EDIT: But gods just walking around, telling their followers what to do and having "Chosen" members just isn't Eberron, whether or not the non-collective deities exist. |
| Aloïsius02-04-06, 03:04 PM | There is nearly nothing IIRC about the plane of shadow in the ECS. So, one can imagine that after a very long trip in the shadow plane, you can pass from one setting into another. This should be a very disturbing experience for the character involved. A PC coming from Eberron and ending in Waterdeep or, worse, Zhentil Keep, will be realy disoriented... |
