Once agian the RPGA totally ignore us. Living Forgotten Realms this disgusts me. Why is it that Eberron keeps being treated like the step child of Wizards of the Coast. The Forgotten Realms fans had LC, Greyhawk fans had LG, and why can't we have a Living Campaign.

One reason could be that there won't be a 4E Eberron Campaign Setting until 2009.

If we do get an LE campaign, then the Finns will get either Karrnath or Lhazaar. I don't want us to end up in some subtropic land like in LG.

Wait... LE and LG? Does that mean Eberron is evil and Greyhawk is good? It kinda does, since Greyhawk has much more goody-two-shoes action while Eberron is more tolerant of evil people. The Living campaigns, with all the paperwork, are inherently lawful-aligned.

Is going away in 2008. It did not even last 3 years. The whole D&D campaign program is going away. The only campaign that the RPGA will have in 2008 is Living Forgotten Realms. Aren't any of you getting tired of this.

I am sure they will re-launch some Living Eberron again as soon as they publish the 4e ECS.

WotC only has so many designers and they have to allocate resources where they think they can get the greatest return on their investment. That's why they are pushing the 4e FRCS out the door first.

I'd rather them take their time on rolling out the ECS and get it right, rather than rushing out a hack-job just for the sake of having it out there.

RPGA campaigns don't mean a whole lot to me because I don't play in them, so I don't really share your frustration. But I certainly can understand you being upset.

I believe it's been stated that the "lifespan" of the D&D campaigns was always supposed to be 2 years (maybe LotGR was supposed to be different).

Incorrect!

From the announcement (http://forums.gleemax.com/showthread.php?p=13467592#post13467592):
With Xen’drik Expeditions ending, a new D&D Campaigns program will take its place. As it is scheduled to begin in late summer/fall 2008, we can’t yet announce what it will be, but it will improve upon the success of Xen’drik. (Of course, we’ll be looking for help with that as well – once again, check on the website in a few weeks for more info.)

We don't know it will be Eberron. I think it's 50-50 that it's Greyhawk or Eberron. We won't know until later.

I am a LG-player, and I truly hoped they would have made a Living Eberron campaign. And similarly, I noticed the LG vs. LE abbreviations.

Anyhow, we should wait for the ECS 4th ed., for I wait it to hold a new map with sensible distances and nations divided in smaller provinces. This way we'd get enough areas to call regions in a Living campaign.

As for D&D Campaigns, I couldn't care less. And I doubt it's going to be Greyhawk, since they won't support it any longer.

For me these points are moot. I know this is purely selfish. I was hoping that the next Living Campaign was going to be Eberron. The reason I was hoping this is because in my area I can not find people playing the setting. There is a monthly RPGA games day for Living Greyhawk that meets at a games store near me. The head of that group and some of the members said that they would support Eberron only if it was a Living Campaign. They do not and will not support any D&D campaign. Their point is that the D&D Campaigns are for the sales of minis and have nothing to do with Role Playing. I was lucky to find a couple who ran D&D minis tournaments and the husband ran Mark of Heroes adventures that they were given as promotional items. My main point once again and it is purely selfish is that I want to play a character in the Eberron setting and not just DM. In my area a RPGA Living Campaign for Eberron was my best hope. The thing that gets me is that I thought these campaigns were to promote the settings. I am probably wrong on this. I can walk into any of the game stores or comic books stores in my area and there is a group playing a D&D campaign set in the Realms and the shelves in book stores are jammed with Realms fiction. I really like Eberron and I thought that a Living Campaign would also help let nay sayers who have not had a chance to experience Eberron see what a cool setting it really is. I know step down from my soap box.

My theory. Give it time.

Forgotten Realms has been around since '85 with the release of H1 Bloodstone Pass. That's 22 years of development. In contrast Eberron has been out for 3 years. 22 vs 3. You can't expect the same amount of support for a three year old campaign as you do for a 22 year old campaign. You're approaching the second generation of people who are enjoying Forgotten Realms. I'm tired of people griping all the time about the love FR gets while Eberron is put on the shelf. Open up your damn eyes and realize it's just a simple fact of history. If you want to play in an Eberron campaign the best way for you to influence the people in your area to play Eberron is to start running an Eberron game. Then, instead of wasting hours griping about how Eberron doesn't get any love, construct a well thought out campaign that hooks people into playing Eberron. Maybe, and just maybe, someone playing in your game will say to themselves, hey Eberron really is the badass campaign setting everyone says it is and they'll start running an Eberron game. I would love to play in an Eberron game, but right now I'm running one to show my gaming group how cool it is. Maybe the next time someone steps up to the plate to be DM they'll pick Eberron, maybe not. I'm not going to sit around and whine and wait for Wizards to produce a LE just so I can play Eberron, I'm doing something about it.

Chief I do run an Eberron campaign. I have been running an Eberron Campaign from day one and no there is no one in the group who wants to DM. Everyone wants to be actors no one wants to direct. There are people that hang out at the game store that I run my game at that run Forgotten Realms. There is actually 3 Forgotten Realms games going on and there is also the LG group that runs there once a month games day. The RPGA group is stacked with DMs. My point is that you only give them LE to run then all of us full time DMs will get a chance to play in the coolest setting being published right now. Get your facts straight before you jump down someones throat.

I don't give a damn whether or not there's ever an RPGA campaign for Eberron. I can see why Wizards of the Coast cares about organised play but all of this highly-structured "Living" and "Expeditions" garbage is really antithetical to anything I care to do with D&D and Eberron.

Eberron is stuck in time. The dateline stops in 999.

A Living Campaign requires a dynamic world, and Eberron is by its very nature static.

Not if what they said comes true albeit in 2 years apparently...

"They" have said nothing. Hellcow has speculated on a couple possible ways to shoehorn new content in, only one of which was a jump of the timeline.

But that in no way indicates thte basic premise of Eberron, that it is fixed in time, will change allowing a moving timeline. In fact, they very much want to avoid that concept, because of the basic intent of Eberron to be easily run by new DM's without a huge initial outlay of cash to catch up from baseline release to current date.

Not quite. There have been statements about advancing the timeline 2 years at the Eberron seminar. As it was held by James & Keith, I think we can take it as gospel since James is the head of the 4E "story team."

Is it in any way wrong that I chuckle inside when I see people talking about taking things James Wyatt says as gospel?

The Xen'drik Expeditions campaign was never supposed to run more than 2 years. I too was hoping for a Living Eberron campaign, but I understand why Living Forgotten Realms was chosen instead. Perhaps down the road we can hope for Living Eberron.

While Xen'drik Expeditions is releasing the final adventures at Origins 2008 (with the campaign ending officially at the end of 2008), there is always a chance that the new D&D Campaign the RPGA runs will be set in Eberron again. Like you, I won't know until it is announced.

Until then, the RPGA provides Eberron adventures through the Xen'drik Expeditions campaign. I invite you all to check them out.

That's too bad. I was fortunate enough to find a group that runs XE.

I was in a similar situation. Although I wasn't the DM who introduced Eberron to our gaming group, it was when I started running my own Eberron campaign that everyone wanted to play. I was really missing being a player in the setting. Someone else ran a short campaign while I was taking a break to write the next story arc, but he is more of a Monty Haul type DM and really plays favorites (it was a nice quick fix, but not my style of gaming).

I played the first XE mods at a convention and was able to get information on a shop that was going to offer XE on a regular basis. As much as I love running Eberron, I really don't know what I'd do if I couldn't get at least a monthly player fix.

I really have no interest in Living FR (My only experience with the setting is through the CRPG Never Winters Night), so I am really hoping that the RPGA puts out some sort of sanctioned Eberron campaign.

I do plan on picking up the core 4.0 books when they are released, but I will continue to run Eberron in its current version until the setting is updated.

(I think I went off on a tangent there somewhere.) :thinks:
