| demonpunk07-08-04, 08:38 AM | I'm surprised that people are just catching on to this idea. The Lovecraftian elements seem obvious. Xen'drik, Xoriat, daelkyr and aberrations. Everybody on the other board was trying to twist things around to make it more Lovecraftian. I think this is unneccesary. The Lovecraftian elements are there, along with other styles and elements. The DM can choose to explore them if he wishes. In other words, I think the massive island of Xen'drik has plenty of room for Lovecraft plots all by itself. I like the Sanity rules though. The idea of using them only for really weird creatures like outsiders and aberrations was good. |
| DreadholdEscapee07-08-04, 09:49 AM | I was suprised that people thought this was a new idea. It seems built in to the setting to me, for the reasons you mentioned. I think importing the SAN rules goes against the "swashbuckling action' theme of the setting, but it would make for a much grittier Eberron. It's not very cinematic to have the PCs fighting the villain while going fetal in the corner. Although, Sanity could be boosted by Action points temporarily. This would keep the cinematic flair of exceptional heroes, while keeping the mind warping effects of creatures beyond mortal comprehension. I think that Action points would trump the SAN rolls, ultimately neutering the threat of going mentally bye-bye. Grim |
