I'm new to making a campaign and I am wanting help with it. my general concept is to do the Dragon Prophecy and have my players be apart of it by way of a birth mark that they all have and they could also be of a dragonmarked race and another thing is I was wondering if the drow would qualify for a dragonmark scince they are elves would they get the elven dragonmarks or will they not get a dragonmark at all?

I'd help but your post killed me, because I never got a chance to take a breath.

As far as I know the drow don't get Dragonmarks and it's a completely different blood line.

Here's an idea for you, what if they all manifest a whole brand new set of marks. Kybermarks? What would the world do if there were a second set of marks tied to the will of Kyber as an opposition to Sybers/Eberron? Hmmm

And each of those marks could be tied to a number of meteors buried deep within the ground!

1. Alright, sounds good. We can help you with this.

2. Alright, sounds fair enough. I would probably go with having each of them have an Aberrant Dragonmark, each one signifying that the characters played a specific role in the prophecy. Each family that has a normal Dragonmark (Cannith, Kundarak, etc) signifies (at least to me) that their families have a major role in the prophecy; whereas Aberrant D'marks show that the individual has something important about them.

3. Of course, you could do that too. It's not too hard to get done what (apparently) you're trying to accomplish, by using D'marked races.

4. No, drow do not quallify for any of the normal Dragonmarks. I'm pretty sure they can still snag an Aberrant one, just not any of the regulars. Of course, as always, you are free to introduce your own dragonmark into the game that the drow do have access to, though it seems to be a bit of a challenge for people to get the balance right on them. As such, you may want to go ahead and post what you would want to do with it on here, and seek other people's advice on the new mark.

By the RAW... I believe only dragonmarked races can manifest ANY dragonmarks, ever Aberrant marks. So, by the RAW, no drow can have any dragonmark.

That said, if your campaign calls for breaking that rule, then do it. Just be careful and try to realize that unless you break that rule for every drow in the setting, there would be some wide-sweeping consequences if anyone found out that a drow was carrying a mark.

1. The Drow are a subrace in Eberron. They were not magically altered by their giant slave masters. No where in the Races of Eberron does it say that they are not a subrace or were magically altertered. 2. How is it rules breaking?3. I like the idea of the drow getting the marks of Kyber instead of getting the marks of Sybers. 4. What I was doing is that I was going to give every member of my campaign a birth mark that looks similar to the dragonmarks but actually looks like a dragon without any arms or legs and the only thing that is does is when another character with this birth mark is around it starts to glow and burns a little. And that is a way that the party is apart of the dragon prophecy.5. What would be a great villian be for this type of campaign? Would it be the Chamber or some other Dragons threat or even some other threat not wanting the prophecy to come to pass or to have Kyber to come back?

Wasn't there a line of thought that Aberrant Dragonmarks are essentially Khyber Dragonmarks, with regular 'marks being Eberron marks and Siberys Marks being, duh, Siberys Marks? ;) I can't recall if it was canonically stated that such was the case, or if it was just a line of thought people had that they believed Aberrant marks were tied to Khyber and made you nuts.

I think that was from Keith's novel. It works as a story thing either in fact or as a rp thing. I wouldn't make them tied to meteors as the person above suggests though since those are the realm of Sybers.

You are correct, drow are a subrace in Eberron. That said, drow are not members of any of the elf bloodlines that carry a dragonmark. See it's not enough to just be a member of a race that can possibly possess a mark, you must be a member of a bloodline within that race that carries the mark. Hence, the Dragonmarked Houses. The mark does not manifest outside of the families in the houses, and while it's possible to play a character that doesn't realize that their ancestors are/were members of the house, the blood would still be able to be traced back to the house in some way.

Drow are not members of any of the houses, and unless a half-race specifically bears a mark (like the half-orcs of house Thaarashk), other half-bloods cannot bear a mark. So, you can't have a drow and an elf of house Phiarlan (for example) bearing a child that has the Mark of Shadow. This has all been addressed by Keith Baker in his various Ask Keith Baker threads.

Again, this is just by the Rules As Written. The DM is free to do what he wants. I'm just giving a strict by the RAW interpretation.

2. How is it rules breaking?

Because of the reasons that I mentioned above. Drow do not/can not manifest ANY Dragonmark by the RAW. Therefore, if you have a Drow with a Dragonmark, it is breaking the rules.

3. I like the idea of the drow getting the marks of Kyber instead of getting the marks of Sybers.

That's fine. In your game, you can do what you want. However, I would also point out that in Eberron, drow do not live in Khyber (the underdark)... they don't have anything to do with Khyber. So, I don't understand why they would be tied to Khyber through a Khyber Dragonmark.

4. What I was doing is that I was going to give every member of my campaign a birth mark that looks similar to the dragonmarks but actually looks like a dragon without any arms or legs and the only thing that is does is when another character with this birth mark is around it starts to glow and burns a little. And that is a way that the party is apart of the dragon prophecy.

That's an interesting idea actually. So it wouldn't be an actual Dragonmark? That would avoid the entire marked race vs. non-marked race issues that were being discussed above. Do you have any thoughts as to why they have these birthmarks? Were they naturally occurring, are there others that have them, did dragons from the chamber somehow magically mark them in their mother's womb??? I'm curious to see your rationalle for these, and where you would like to go with them. It almost sounds like something that you could use to combine aspects of Birthright into Eberron if you wanted to go that way.

5. What would be a great villian be for this type of campaign? Would it be the Chamber or some other Dragons threat or even some other threat not wanting the prophecy to come to pass or to have Kyber to come back?

The Cult of the Dragon Below would be the first thing that comes to mind. They're trying to free their Daelkyr lords and their aberration creations from Khyber. Likewise, the Lords of Dust are trying to release the Rajahs that have been similarly bound into large Khyber dragonshards. The dragons of the Chamber have strange and varied agendas all tied to how they view the parts of the Prophecy that they have discovered. It is certainly possible that one dragon might believe it's necessary to unlock the secrets of Khyber once again, while another dragon is trying to stop him.

You have some pretty wide options from what I can see.

Well I really didn't think of a reason behind the birthmarks but thank you for the idea of having one of the dragons from the chamber touch the mothers of the PC's magically, because they saw a sign on the day the PC's parents did it on their honey moons and knew they had to watch to see if these families were something special. No one but the PC's have these birthmarks but yes they occur like any other birth mark does.
Lands: The jungles of Xen'drik are a harsh and unforgiving land; the drow dewll in the underground realm of Khyber as often as they hunt the ruins of aboveground Xen'drik.
As written in the Races of Eberron.
They are also related to the Aerenal Elves. Because the Aerenal Elves fled Xen'drik to go to Aerenal.
Also as in context from the Races of Eberron.
That is why I thought they could get dragon marks and also thank you for giving me some ideas of who to send at my players. The other thing I was thing they had something to do with Khyber because of their god is belived to be one of the Evil Six. The one I'm talking about is the Mockery(aka. Vulkoor).
