I’ve just started a new Eberron campaign, and I started it with a dream sequence designed to get the party together. Now, this thread is something of a wall for the ideas currently bouncing in my head on how to tie some of the things together.

The Big Secret: Eberron, like a few other D&D settings, doesn’t adequately explain where magic comes from. That is, the source of energy for the spells people are casting. So what I’m going to use is as follows.

Artificers (and anyone making magic items) have to use experience points to craft items. Artificers get to use a “craft reserve,” but they can use their own personal experiences to force magic into items. Some spells have personal experience costs, too. So, here, magic is going to be fueled by experience.

Where do these experiences come from, since they aren’t your own? Well, Everybody who dies goes to Dolurrh, yeah? And on Dolurrh, their memories fade until they, themselves, are swallowed by the plane (or vanish, or what have you). The dead are the fuel for Eberron’s magic. Isn’t that special?

Now, when Dolurrh next becomes coterminous, there’s a big reason for ghosts to try and get away or not go at all. They’re running, and they don’t know why.

A schema that can do everything. We’ll call it the “Gem of Moons” or “The Final Schema“ for now. The problem is, you need massive amounts of energy, lots and lots of magical energy. Now, someone, let’s say someone in Cannith, found a way to kill a massive amount of people in a short amount of time and stick a little link to this “Dolurrh trap dimension” where they can easily get to it because they need the magical fuel for something big. Let’s call this the “Mournland” right now.

Tying in Dragonmarks: Aberrant dragonmarks are fun. The cataclysm mage is even funner. Artificers who’ve discovered how to use Infusions on fleshy things and create “magic people” using bits of this Final Schema and “false lead” Final Schemas left by the giants (‘cuz that’s Something Man Was Not Meant to Know). This means an artificer could, for probability’s sake, create, let’s say, fake aberrant dragonmarks with less or even more power than the real ones.

Now, I’ve gotta involve House Cannith (I know this whole “let’s kill everyone and make it look like it wasn’t us and at the same time hide it from our own people’ thing was partially responsible for the split).

Need to somehow involve warforged. The quori and the Kalashtar would definitely be interested in this, too; it involves the traffic of souls.

I also need some NPCs and some interconnected conspiracies and plots to hang on these threads of ideas.

There's a thread for posting your campaign help over here (http://boards1.wizards.com/showthread.php?t=483042). You will at least get one or two good responses.

Warforged may been a part of the schema, or they may actually be part of the Final Schema. They’ve all got those runes on their head. If each one is some sort of key command or happens to be part of a message, it gives House Cannith a good reason to either
a) send agents out to “count” warforged left.
Or
b) other House Cannith folks or independent investigators help “hide” warforged.

This opens up some ideas. Let’s say Merrix d’Cannith is one of the individuals after the Final Schema. He’s Lawful Evil, he’d probably want it without too much worry about what he has to do to get it. So I’ll create an underling, one Marcus d’Cannith, dragonmarked artificer and party contact who seems to have a plot up his sleeve but is actually working to either find the Schema first or prevent anyone from finding it.

Halinda d’Cannith, an artificer who worked on the Cyre “project” and is now a bit insane (killing millions simultaneously and creating a manifest zone to the plane of the dead will do that), living with a warforged named Granite in a run-down warehouse. She’ll be an important person to speak with: lawful neutral and at the moment, performing rather illegal experiments on animals.

Alright, my Cannith angle is partially covered. Marcus needs a few underlings for his office, and I may have to map out the warehouse Halinda lives in. Now, I need to get the PCs to Sharn, which they are already working towards, which is good.

Gonna distract them with some undead and perhaps some other various low-level threats while they work their way towards Sharn.... and show that every time someone uses magic on a large or selfish scale, bad things tend to happen.

I answered your campaign question in the Campaign Help thread, the link provided by Rechan. Please kindly post said questions to the Campaign Help thread. I hope I can be of help with my advice.
