| FastWheels03-29-05, 07:17 PM | Always played in homemade campains but now that i don't have as much time as i did and since i wanted to continue playing D&D, i heard about this new great CS that wizards was going to launch. I go interested a read something about it and decided to buy the book. When i started reading, a world tempered with magic, one of the first things that came to my mind was "what if magic would start to fail in this world?" but soon that thought was lost int to the oblivian. So i continued to read and dispite some information, IMO is missing like more information about the other continents, i think the CS is very well written and well imagined. Now that i have finished the book and assembled a few players i started to imagine again what sort of campain would i run and again the thought of magic failing came to my head and i started to imagine why would that happen and i came up with some stuff that i would like your opinion. Since i dont have all that much time i'm using the oficial adventures that came up (forgotten forge, shadow of the last war and the others 2) and adapt that to my ideia. So the creative patterns is a way to use Kyber dragonshard to absorve (bind) the magic of the world into it (maybe the way cyre wsa destroyed - just a thought) allowing to concentrate great power. by this means the deamons from the deamon waste plans to free their masters. There will be made some modifications to the oficial adventures but the ideia is there. When i say magic begins to fail it does mean it just desapears. No. Maybe some cracks show up in the towers of sharn. Maybe a craftsman failed to use magecraft or maybe the floating universaty in aundair lost some height. Just some evidents of what could happen if some heroes dont appear to save the day :) one think to have in mind is that this campain (or at least that what i planned) is to go from lvl 1 to lvl 20. So the failing of magic only comes in high lvls (like lvl 15) so i need to prepare things for that. So hereis my ideia. Sill needs some work so i wanted to ask you guys for your opinions and maybe some ideias on what impact would this cause in the global economy and some ideias on how to lead to the failing of magic :) thx to all |
| Endless_Helix03-29-05, 08:17 PM | Let's see, reasons that magic could fail, -Very powerful eldritch machine -Lots of living dysjunctions get loose Who would want that? -The Inspired. They want minimal resistence when they take over. Removing magic for a while would bring Khorvaire to it's knees. Then the Inspired come and give khorvaire the sweetest mercy in psionics and take over. Of, course it couldn't be readily traced to them. -Daelkyr. Who knows what they want. They are unsane. -The Ashbound. Well... at least arcane magic. Of course, it would be hypocritical to build and eldritch machine. Maybe some sort of special invocation on a specific date would cause it. The idea is good for a high level campaign, because otherwise the wizards would die very quickly. The trick will be writing the story :) The economy would begin to fail, particularly in the urban centers. That's where all the mages go, there's more work. Sharn would be a real mess because it's based on magic, with it's towers and sheer height. People on general would panic, so huge amounts of civil unrest. Also, would the Dragonmarks work? |
| FastWheels03-30-05, 05:28 PM | well my ideia was that magic in general (arcane ou divine) would all start to fail including those of the dragonmark. In low level (1 to 6-7) the PC's help to discover a powerful creative parttern and it's schemas. These schemas tell how to create a powerfull item magic that can be used to absorve / bind magic energy or something like that. to mid to hight level (7 - 15) is where i'm a little lost. Don't know exactly what going to happen yet so some help here would be good now at high levels magic will begin to fail and caos will rise as economic starts to fall. The faling ofmagic will be nearly unoticed in the beginning but if the PC's donīt hurry the situation will be aggravated. this is my general ideia but some help is allways appreciated :) |
| Endless_Helix03-31-05, 08:29 AM | Around what level would this eldritch machine be constructed? I would assume about 9th or 10th level (in terms of a character's time line). Then just give everyone a 1% spell failure and double it about twice every session till it hits about 50% then, sit back and let the PC's figure out what happened. Then they have to get to the Epicenter(the machine) and dismantle it. Then you can have them start to help rebuild the world, after they dispose of the schema. So what's left is a two level hole. For there I would run something with the DD or the Emerald Claw, to throw the players off the track and give them some convenient enemies to pin it on, only to find out that they're innocent. Pin it on some insane mage that wants all magic to dissappear for a while, so that he can be the savior who brings it back or something along those lines... |
