Eberron CD Soundtrack [Archive] - Wizards Community

11-16-04, 12:10 PM I see a couple threads about the sample tracks WotC placed online, but what do you think about the final Eberron CD Soundtrack that comes with the Sharn book?

I, for one, would love to see this kind of music product added to future Eberron products.

...it was pretty good. 'Cut to the Chase' is still probably the best track, and there's a reprise of it at the end. Of the previously unheard tracks, the Lord of Blades one is IMHO the most evocative (i.e. made me think 'This is Eberron').

Would I spend $14.99 to purchase it as a separate CD? No.

Point taken Brianish. The 1st track, Cut to the Chase is impressive. But some of these tracks sound like they were designed specifically for pregnant women. Which isn't a bad thing, if you're a woman who is pregnant and like D&D. A couple of these tracks sound like they were composed by a breathing coach for lamazze (misspelling?) class. You could play it in a delivery room to help your wife with her breathing, but as for playing it during a gaming session? Heck no! Unless you're playing D&D in the delivery room!

If you're a DM, I'd recommend getting the Sharn sourcebook. Don't get the book just to get the CD. I agree with helzapoppin, not worth paying 14.99 for.

11-17-04, 05:10 PM The composer has done work for films and video games. It fits perfectly in a cinematic role. If there were ever going to be an Eberron movie the track Sharn: City of Towers would make a great intro music for a fly though of the city. Especially on one of its rainy days. Most of the tracks are long enough that they can sit as background music for a descriptive speech. This would be there best use, to give an additional boost to a dramatic encounter. I'm going to have to practice timing them out to get the proper dramatic feel. Most tracks are not good listening music on their own, but that was probably never their intent.

But some of these tracks sound like they were designed specifically for pregnant women.
Would that be Dreams of the Inspired? :D

This is my thought exactly. The CD is boring, we don't use music while gaming so it will not be listened to again. And if we did we would use differnt types of music than this. However a map would be used often.

I did listen to the CD and it is okay, but not my cup of tea.

11-17-04, 07:27 PM While the quality of the music is good, the styling of the compositions struck me as being better suited for ballet. If I were to set my Eberron campaign to music, I'd plug in the soundtrack to The Incredibles instead...

11-17-04, 10:52 PM I have to agree with the majority for once, the CD is cool for maybe background music during brief moments, but I prefer some other SD's to my game then this one, and even have a thread already stating them.

Not the best soundtrack in my collection (my current favorite being the Temple of Elemental Evil soundtrack - which the company was smart enough to do as mp3s). But as a freebie with the book, it was a nice addition. I would love to see another CD like this in future books, because I love playing music in the background.

In a larger context, I like what this bodes. Even if it was a gimmick to sell more books, at least it's a step in the right direction. WotC actually stepped up and gave us an additional goody with the book. I would have bought the book irregardless (as I think most Eberron fans would have), but it was a nice extra. Lets hope this trend continues with future products.

And on the issue of maps, I really want to see more of them too. I am working on full color too scale maps for some eberron stuff, I'll be posting them when I've completed them.

First on my list are:
-A Lyrandar airship
-An Orien lightening rail coach.
-A Svis message station.

It's orcestral tension music.

It's not great, but it's all right. I would try playing it in the background while I play Eberron, but most games have a more jokey atmosfear, and a serious sound track may not work.

But i'll try. I wonder what Keiths opinion is?

think on this these numbers are stripped RIGHT out of the Section on what sharn is like

Typical tower, 800 - 2400ft wide at the base tapering to 200-800ft wide at the 'top' tower heights ranging from a few hundered feet to approx 1 mile,

Now lets take one really big tower A Mile high one, base of 2400ft (to be structurally sound) tapering to 800ft after a mile thats already really big, now 'typically there is a storey every 10-12ft, how many hundered floors is that, the bottom ones vast, how many pages will it take to display that one tower, now expand out by a factor of hundereds, now we need to deal with the cogs,

oh and near the bottom the towers start to merge with built on connections,

not to be rude but i dont think its possible to map the whole thing in detail

I would never attempt to map the entirity of sharn - for one thing I don't know what it looks like, and for another, I couldn't complete it before I die of old age.
