| DMAC07-04-04, 04:24 PM | I thought people might enjoy these since there isn't a lot of Eberron art out there yet. A Warforged Master Inquisitive and Shifter Monk: http://www.yodaboys.com/eberron1.jpg |
| Pallis07-04-04, 04:41 PM | These are excellent. One of my players has just created a Shifter and this portrait will suit just fine. Good work DMAC! |
| jedi818707-04-04, 04:56 PM | Very good. Did you make these? If not who did? If you did do you plan to make more? If so do you take requests? |
| Pallis07-04-04, 05:03 PM | You read my mind jedi! I was also going to ask whether requests were taken. If you are the artist for these portraits DMAC, run your eyes over the 'Lets write the Korranberg Chronicle' thread. There's a group of us looking to set up a website for the Chonicle and, based on your work (if it is your work) I think I can say on behalf of Jimmy and Flamy (or Patches) that we'd love you to contribute... |
| Pallis07-04-04, 05:12 PM | A-ha! Just noticed your signature in the lower corner of the artwork. So...the offer remains DMAC...you've got real talent. |
| Soichiro Arima07-04-04, 05:34 PM | Amazing Pictures, Both are great and I realy like the Monical on the War Forged Master Inquisiter. By any chance are you takeing requests? I could use a good picture for my BBEG. |
| Flamy07-04-04, 06:24 PM | DMAC, you have great artistic talent. I would be honored if you would join us in our Attempt to create the Korranberg Chronicle. I invite you to drop by the thread. But now, to truly comment on your art. I was amazed by what I saw as the page loaded. I'm used to viewing art from aother board I go to, but nothing as well done as this (Not even RZ). You have fantastic talent and a great picture of what Eberron truly is. I hope you continue with this and that you may some day take requests. |
| Latif Khan07-04-04, 06:34 PM | woah real nice !  |
| Cruhand07-04-04, 07:06 PM | nice work, I hope the number (1) signifies you're going to make more such drawings? =) We really need more Eberron artwork out there, so it's great that you give us your share =) - C; |
| DMAC07-04-04, 07:49 PM | Thanks for the kind words, I'm glad you guys like them. I really don't have time to sign up for anything on even a semi-regular basis. These are basically a "had the time, felt like drawing something cool" type of thing. I am, however, open to suggestions. If a cool idea inspires me, I'll be sure to post the results here. :) You can always check out my Website at www.yodaboys.com (http://www.yodaboys.com) for more of my work. |
| Dreamtide07-04-04, 08:28 PM | I am blown away by the artwork on your website, DMAC. I hope that you're making a living as an artist or illustrator. If you aren't, you should be. |
| Dauntless07-04-04, 09:11 PM | Holy crap DMAC, you are my hero. I would do anything to be able to have that artistic gift (alas, I don't have the time to practice) |
| DMAC07-04-04, 09:28 PM | So, anything other than practice then? :) |
| DMAC07-04-04, 10:11 PM | These were the pen doodles I did before I did the cleaned up pencil versions I posted earlier. There are a few warforged monks there that I will probably get to eventually... http://www.yodaboys.com/shifterdoodle.jpg http://www.yodaboys.com/warforgeddoodles.jpg |
| Dauntless07-04-04, 10:30 PM | Originally posted by DMAC So, anything other than practice then? :) So cruel! :( True... but cruel! ;) |
| Bubba33307-05-04, 07:52 AM | Jumpin' Jesus on a june big! You ROCK! And while we're on the topic on art, does anyone know where I can find a snazzy full-body pic of a female half-elf ranger? A shot in the Dreaming Dark, I know. |
| smrtgmp07-05-04, 09:47 AM | Nice. The artwork at the top of the thread was impressive enough, but the stuff on your web site is truly astounding. |
| DMAC07-05-04, 10:12 AM | Thanks again everyone. As I said, feel free to post a description of your character or drop me an e-mail at calvertdarren@hotmail.com and if I have a chance to sketch something up I'll post it here. |
| Terrasque-Man07-05-04, 11:59 AM | damn that portrait of busta is awesome! nice work, dmac...i need to post more of my illustration work...maybe some eberron characters....*rubs hands with evil intent* i did a d&d prototype for hasbro years ago..I GOTTA dig up those character illustrations....stay tuned |
| Kaverael07-05-04, 12:23 PM | Dude you rock!!! since no one has posted a request yet, I have one. Pantera, 1st level rogue shifter (cliffwalker). Dark skin, dark hair, amber eyes. Basically She is cat woman climbing the towers of Sharn |
| smrtgmp07-05-04, 12:24 PM | feel free to post a description of your character Ooh ooh! A gnome or dwarf artificer would be very cool. Preferably something with lots of gadgets and the like. Or perhaps a harness stuffed full of wands, scrolls, and various tools. And some sort of head gear with magnifing lenses or something similar. Oh, and I though you should know, your rendition of Leonardo inspired me to create a new race, the Chelonians. Thanks! |
| Soichiro Arima07-05-04, 01:17 PM | My Character: A young female human artificer, wears a helmet with magnifing glasses that snap down into place over her eyes. Her hair is short and blue, she has jade green eyes and wears glasses. She smiles alot and is very happy and cheerful. She wears a cute and kinda tight jumpsuit full of her gear and other junk. |
| dvsman07-05-04, 02:30 PM | If Dmac can't keep up with the requests I'll gladly help out. visit the illustration section on my website www.devious-studios.com to take a peek at some of my work. |
| Bubba33307-05-04, 02:38 PM | Ok, I'll add some more. A 24 y/o female half-elf ranger from the Eldeen Reaches (but not an Eldeen Ranger...yet!), wearing an explorer's outfit, carrying a scimitar, dagger and longbow. Has a quiver over her back as well as a backpack with a coil of silk rope attached. Has one belt pouch. |
| jedi818707-05-04, 03:21 PM | I'd like to see my charecter a half-orc barbarian/cleric of balinor, he's a big hunter, complete with skins and all, aswell as a battle axe. If you do this, thank you. Another cool idea is a warforged swashbuckler. By the way I loved those warforged monks. |
| Bubba33307-05-04, 03:32 PM | Ok, I'll add some more. | simon brumat07-05-04, 04:22 PM | What medium did u use to do these? ive visited ur site before and think ur stuffs cool. im a bit of an artist myself now en then but i dont have the know how to make a site. I carnt even figure out how to put pics into this message! |
| dvsman07-05-04, 06:16 PM | Over the next few days I'll work on some pencils for some of the characters mentioned here. Check back for a link or message for a PM |
| lordconservative07-05-04, 08:05 PM | My BBEG: Jaerdin Bloodletter, a changeling Soulknife/Blackguard with long black hair and spiked black fullplate armor with a horned helm. His mindblade glows an intense red. I'd love to see what you come up with. :) |
| JohnnyONeal07-05-04, 10:54 PM | Awesome! Darren "Yodaboy" Calvert is one of my favorite artists. He's done some awesome Star Wars stuff, and art for a number of third-party RPG products. I'm thrilled to see him pointing his considerable skills in Eberron's direction! |
| darkthought07-05-04, 10:55 PM | Okay here's mine.... Calaeb Darkthought. 24 year old Neutral Necromancer who dabbles a little bit with the Blood of Vol and is trying to get information on how the Karnathi undead are made. He's also quietly enquiring into the the positive-charged undead of the elves. He has dark brown hair and pale skin with blue eyes. Although morbid, he does like to help people who are in need, if he can. His main goal is to gain immortality and to avoid the bleakness of Doluurh... even though he Doluurh would fit him like a glove. He tends to brood on past wrongs, and has a general pessimistic outlook on life. |
| DMAC07-06-04, 10:02 AM | These look good. :) My computer's in the shop right now (*sigh*) so I can only browse at work but there's definitely some cool stuff here. |
| Pallis07-06-04, 03:32 PM | Sorry to hear about your computer DMAC. Hope it gets fixed soon for you. Have you had any more thoughts about drawings for the Chroniclers of the Korranberg. I can send you description at your say so... |
| Ashrem Bayle07-06-04, 03:44 PM | This is an odd request, but I'd love to see it done: How about a male revisioning of this character: http://www.wizards.com/dnd/images/xph_gallery/33174.jpg ...with a kalashtari style twist to him. |
| Bluebrush07-06-04, 06:55 PM | Oooh! Oooh! Me! Roger Walke, Rogue 1. Roger is 5'10" tall, 21 years old and is lightly built (Str 11). He has blue eyes and long black hair which he keeps tied in a pony tail with a length of leather cord. His face is gently curved and handsome, though he has a teenager-like goatee which always looks like it was groomed yesterday. A former soldier, he bears impressive battlescars from the war, particularly on his torso and upper left arm. Roger's normal outfit is a pair of light brown pants with mudstained ankles and a worn jacket, both of which contain several useful pockets. Under his clothes he wears a suit of comfortable leather armour. His boots are tough and sturdy enough for hiking, but light enough for good footwork. He also wears a broad brimmed brown felt Fedora. (Like the Weekender model here: http://hatshop.com/hats2/hats2.html) Roger is cheerful, dashing and personable, if somewhat foolish. He writes articles for the Sharn Inquisitive while adventuring, and fancies himself as something of a ladies' man. At heart, Roger is good natured but perhaps too curious for his own good. |
| darkthought07-06-04, 09:01 PM | Damn, I want that hat. :D |

| smrtgmp07-07-04, 08:14 AM | Originally posted by Bluebrush Roger's hat is not for sale! Well aparantly it is.:P Although, for $205, it hardly seems worth it. It is a very styln' hat though. |

| darkthought07-07-04, 04:42 PM | Originally posted by DMAC It comes and goes: http://www.yodaboys.com/DMACtrio.jpg :) LOL, here's what I thought when I saw those. Hmmm. BLARG! BWAHAHAHA. Now where'd I put that artist whip... :smirk: j/k |
| MrFilthyIke07-07-04, 07:59 PM | Originally posted by DMAC It comes and goes: http://www.yodaboys.com/DMACtrio.jpg :) Beware bald men bearing portraits. :) But still a good self-portrait. As for a picture, I need a good Half-Orc...you able to give us a pimpin' Half-Orc? |
| DMAC07-07-04, 08:11 PM | With a fur coat, feather in his hat, and a cane? |
| smrtgmp07-07-04, 10:33 PM | Dont forget the oversized golden chalice and the live gold fish in his platform shoes. |
| Quithion07-09-04, 03:24 AM | I most humbly request Toox, Male Changeling Rogue 1/ Psion 1 ( Telepath) {Neutral} Toox is began his career as mercenaries in the lower levels of Sharn. He use the combination of his talents to make moeny for himself and specializes in the stealing of secrets. Unlike most changelings toox prefers his natural form to that of a disguise. Toox is a charismatic changeling, with a more defined set of lips then normal changelings, which are always spread in a chesire cat grin. He wears his white hair in a simple well oiled and groomed pony tail. His nature as a changeling makes everyone uncomfortable around him, but it is his sly, but friendly "lets make a deal" attitude that often frightends others away. He wears a dark weave heavy coat with golden buttons, which is often unbutttoned. Under this he wears a form fitting shirt of Glamerweave, tucked into his black breaches. He wears simple black boots, and a a single simple golden ring on each hand. Toox is said to be getting quite the reuptation for knowing hard to find information. |
| DMAC07-09-04, 11:02 AM | Hopefully I'll get a chance to tackle some of these this weekend. |
| Zorloff07-09-04, 11:43 AM | Originally posted by Quithion I most humbly request Toox, Male Changeling Rogue 1/ Psion 1 ( Telepath) {Neutral} Toox is began his career as mercenaries in the lower levels of Sharn. | Myriddian07-12-04, 03:35 AM | Ooooohhhh.....   |
| Sebby07-12-04, 03:39 AM | Man... That one is just... wrong. http://www.yodaboys.com/bears.html I wouldn't let you within 10 miles of a mariage cake! :ayyyy!: |
| JohnnyONeal07-12-04, 09:39 AM | As much as I'd love to have you draw one of my characters, I've got a simpler request. Let's see a changeling! I'd be thrilled to see Zorloff or Quithion's requests. We only have one picture of a changeling (in "natural" form) to work off of, and it's pretty vague/blurry (which I understand was probably intentional). Your cleaner, more illustrative style would be a very new way to look at this mysterious race. |
| DMAC07-12-04, 10:52 AM | Yeah, I was kind of surprised by that. I was also surprised that the only Kalashtar art in the book was done in that sketchy digital painting style, especially after seeing Steve Prescott's cool concept art in the Dragon previews. |
| DMAC07-12-04, 02:01 PM | Here's a better scan of the monk. I'm having to "scan" at home with my digital camera right now... http://www.yodaboys.com/warforgedmonk.jpg |
| Joni-san07-12-04, 05:31 PM | Those are incredible pictures DMAC. I just can't wait to see more :) Allthough I'd like to see more Warforged with small additions to their heads or bodies. When I saw the 'Forged with the bit of chain bolted to his face (the one to the lower right in WFdoodles) I immediately started thinking of what his past might be ("Former slave-warrior who escaped from..."). The one with the shoulder harness also got me thinking but not as much, allthough I might come up a short story of a lone warforged guarding an abbandoned monastery in Cyre next time I'm working [lots of walking, gives me time to think]. |

If he wants to impress his fellow Vol-mates, I recommend he use one of the slightly unnerving features of the Vol symbol. When I designed it, it was with the idea that one could hook the top 2 interior-facing points above the collar-bone behind the muscles stretching up the sides of the neck. Both painful and decorative... Best wishes, Lee |
| Red_Decker07-12-04, 11:12 PM | Do you do weaponry too? http://www.geocities.com/customsmiliesbyswordmaster/inthered.txt |
| DMAC07-12-04, 11:15 PM | I drew this once as part of a strange discussion: http://www.yodaboys.com/flamingo.gif |
| Neo07-12-04, 11:29 PM | Originally posted by DMAC I drew this once as part of a strange discussion: http://www.yodaboys.com/flamingo.gif I cannot even begin to fathom the nature of a conversation that would bring about the need for a flamingo shaped and um... colored weapon to be required heh... very scary!!! :D |
| Red_Decker07-12-04, 11:32 PM | How about a longsword with the blade slightly narrower then normal. The leather bound hilt is 7 inches long, the blade a total of 23". The guard is a small disc that is barely there. Just beyond the guard is thicker yet thiner then the hilt twined in leather. Masterwork quality and built for speed. [my idea of a longsword for a monk] Also a character from my stroies but I'll ask later if you don't mind. http://www.geocities.com/customsmiliesbyswordmaster/inthered.txt |
| DMAC07-12-04, 11:41 PM | I only draw weapons that look like birds. Next up: penguin nunchucks. |
| Red_Decker07-13-04, 12:02 AM | Okay how about the character then... She's a human woman with blond hair and a fair complextion. She has a slim build and wears black leather armor. Her features are very close to elven ecept her eyes. Her eyes have an innocent look with a darkness that can barely be seen. Think girl next door meets Kiera [Chronicles of Riddick] http://www.geocities.com/customsmiliesbyswordmaster/inthered.txt |
| Neo07-13-04, 12:30 AM | Originally posted by DMAC I only draw weapons that look like birds. Next up: penguin nunchucks. :uh-huh: ....... um......... :OMG! <sound of rapidly retreating footsteps> |
| Bluebrush07-13-04, 06:20 AM | Originally posted by DMAC I only draw weapons that look like birds. Next up: penguin nunchucks. What about a Kusari-gama which looks like a Toucan? Or maybe a Kama. |
| hiryuu07-13-04, 06:28 AM | Yes, the toucan kama, that's it. What about the sparrow shuriken? Or the heron spear? Or the bald eagle blunt object? Hehehe. Looks vaguely in some roundabout way like you were making fun of Final Fantasy X. Maybe you were, maybe you weren't. But you should. It's something the whole family can enjoy. |
| BalancedOne07-13-04, 03:22 PM | What about a warforged Artificer with wands out the wazoo? Maby with a wand holder like Robo-Cop's Gun holster? please? Thanks in advance!!! |

| Bryce07-13-04, 04:59 PM | All i can say is.. WOW, excellent work. Another idea for the fowl weapons, a dove warhammer, with the head squished back into the body, and the tail a sharp pointed spike on the other side. Well i guess you would use the morningstar rules for it, but it would be a warhammer. |
| DwarvinJedi07-14-04, 12:56 AM | GREAT WORK!, what I would give to have that much talent. |
| DMAC07-14-04, 01:26 AM | Thanks guys. Here are a couple more fantasy pieces that aren't on my site: a gnome/dwarf girl in three stages of progression and a rainforest setting piece, both done on commission. http://www.yodaboys.com/finaldwarftrio.jpg http://www.yodaboys.com/rainforestfinal.jpg |

| DMAC07-16-04, 02:44 PM | Thanks. :) Things are crazy busy at work right now but hopefully I'll have some more time this weekend. I have a bunch of ideas I'd still like to get down on paper. I thought this guy I drew a while back would fit in pretty well in an Eberron campaign: http://www.yodaboys.com/steampunkguy.jpg Maybe a young airship captain... |
| stoutat07-16-04, 04:29 PM | I'd love to find a good pic of a warforged monk.... My character is somewhat leaning towards a simplistic vow of poverty. He wears a simple monk robe and fights hand to hand only. I do have a nice quarterstaff with a Khyber dragonshard embedded in it. But my original idea was to have a monk that was proficient in hand to hand combat and shunned most weapons aside from the quarterstaff. |
| St23aM07-16-04, 04:29 PM | haha actually ive already used that guy for a Lhazzar swashbuckler I have rolled up as a pregen charater for demos at my FLGS. Thanx for all the great art DMAC! you rock! |
| stoutat07-16-04, 04:41 PM | Sorry guys - I'm at work... looked at the pics and didn't read too much. I did happen to read more AFTER my post asking for a warforged monk. Great artwork - Keep it up! It would be kind of cool to find a drawing of a gnome cleric or artificer - Eberron style of course! |
| DMAC07-16-04, 06:36 PM | Anyone know who to contact/what to submit if I were interested in trying to get on board as an official artist for future adventures/supplements? Getting paid to do this kind of stuff and seeing it in print sounds like fun... |
| Pallis07-16-04, 06:46 PM | Contact Customer Services DMAC. There's full rules for submitting your work listed on the CS pages. Best of luck, though I don't think you need it... |
| WizO_BigSister07-16-04, 06:47 PM | I am really impressed by your work. I love the monochrome on the parchment type backing. I've got a couple of queries 1/. Will you be adding the Eberron portraits (and any other D&D stuff) to your website? 2/. Can I add your site to The ULTIMATE Fanstasy/SciFi Portrait Galleries Links List (http://boards1.wizards.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=275720)? If you put the D&D stuffup I'd also like to add you to The ULTIMATE D&D Gallery Links List (http://boards1.wizards.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=270999) What name would you like me to use for the listings? |
| Joni-san07-16-04, 06:53 PM | I took a look at your gallery and I noticed that you haven't included these Eberron drawings in it yet (and the Flamingo sword is also missing...). Any reason why? (While I was writing this BigSister came with the same question. Go figure) It would be quite usefull if you did because I'm planning on doing a fanfic and the Warforged doodles (and the Inquistive and Monk dravings) you've done are my main inspiration and I was planning on linking the pictures to the post. Putting the pics on your site would make it marginaly easier to find them and link them In any case I should start writing it (or at least the cast bio's)... |

| DMAC07-16-04, 10:40 PM | Decided to try digitally coloring the shifter monk: http://www.yodaboys.com/shiftermonkcolor.jpg |
| Dauntless07-16-04, 11:15 PM | DMAC, I just had a strange thought involving female gnomish triplets who heard the calling of the Maruk, to defend the borders of the Demon Wastes... A druid, a ranger, and a paladin. |
| DMAC07-17-04, 12:07 AM | I thought I was the only one who had strange thoughts involving female gnomish triplets. |
| Shardus07-17-04, 03:35 AM | my character idea.... a Valenar Elven Monk who iis trained for combat, and uses the valenar double scimitar. physical descryption: powerfully built, with long flowing white hair. He has deep coppery skin that appears to have a striking luster. His eyes are a deep violet, which seem to glow with an inner light. thanks- Shardus |
| Shardus07-17-04, 04:51 AM | My apologies, I forgot to tell you DMAC.... your one awsome artist, holy wow (yes I said wow), your art is amazing. I've been a little absent minded lately, and had forgot my manners. "bad shardus, you know better than to NOT complement such a great artist, bad" |

| Red_Decker07-17-04, 03:33 PM | Gotta dig the monk. In fact it's kinda scary, a monk that never tires or slows down but can blast off stunning strikes and quivering palms and eventually becomes an outsider... http://www.geocities.com/customsmiliesbyswordmaster/inthered.txt |
| WizO_BigSister07-18-04, 02:31 AM | I'm working on big updates for both the gallery lists and you'll definitely be part of them both :ayyyy!: |
| Martyr07-18-04, 09:12 PM | I would like to see a Kalashtar, any class. The book has a lack of Kalashtar portraits. |
| DMAC07-19-04, 01:50 AM | I guess part of it is that the Kalashtar don't really inspire me (nerd pun intended). Unlike the other new races, they seem to be designed to be Psions and not much else except for NPCs. Even then, they're basically really, really, ridiculously good looking humans which describes about half of the fantasy art out there. They seem more "pigeon-holed" than the other newcomers. The Shifters have that cool, feral thing going on and you can either play that up with Barbarians, Fighters, Rangers, etc. or go the other way and play the "barely restrained" type, focusing their energy into becoming a Wizard, Monk, etc. The Warforged are really interesting to me, not just because they're something new visually, but because they're basically "empty vessels". They were built for war but now have the freedom to explore any path that interests them, discovering their new sentience. The Changelings make perfect Rogues, Bards, Spies etc. but again are kind of limited visually by their non-descript features. Is anyone doing anything interesting with the Kalashtar other than just a really good Psion? There are the concepts by Steve Prescott that appeared in Dragon but other than the cool hair decorations, there doesn't seem to be much to work with visually: http://www.coveworld.net/eberron/317art7.jpg http://www.coveworld.net/eberron/317art8.jpg |
| Dauntless07-19-04, 03:19 AM | Originally posted by DMAC Is anyone doing anything interesting with the Kalashtar other than just a really good Psion? Oh sure, I guess I coulda stayed in Adar. Yeah that woulda been a good idea. Sit on my butt learning meditation techniques all day, just hoping the Inspired didn't break through the defenses and wipe us all out. Thatari leaned over the edge of the Lyrandar airship, watching a flock of birds pass below the hull, deeply engrossed in thought. She idly stroked her longbow as she peered across the empty air. Yeah, it still tries to talk to me in my dreams. Telling me about the fight against the Inspired, the Dreaming Dark, all that. What little training I do remember from the monastary is focused on blocking it out. Why stay and fight? They can't come across the planes any more, so why sit in the mountains and just wait for the next attack? Fools, all of them! Thatari scowled. She didn't care about the Quori wars, or the Path of Light. She just wanted to survive. When she found out about the Morgrave expedition which was probing the shores of Sarlona near her monastary, she wasted no time to finding her way to them, easily convincing them to take her along back to Khorvaire, promising them great knowledge and secrets of her people. They were fools too. She managed to ditch them as soon as the ship reached Sharn, disappearing into the dark recesses of the Lower Towers. It was a rough life for a bit, but for the first time in her life, she felt truly alive. Not having to worry about meditation or doing chores. Not worrying whether the Dreaming Dark were infiltrating their lands. Not being hunted. Now, months later, here she was, a minor officer on the newest experimental airship of House Lyrandar. Thatari smiled as she gazed out towards the eastern horizon, in the direction of the distant land of Sarlona which lay out of view. She would never go back. [ Thatari, CN Female Kalashta Ranger3 ] ~~~~~~~~ Stereotypes are useful, but not everyone is exactly the same, just because they have favored class psion. :) |
| hiryuu07-19-04, 03:31 AM | Originally posted by Dauntless Stereotypes are useful, but not everyone is exactly the same, just because they have favored class psion. :) I do, especially with Kalashtar. I see them like the Sanjiyan Unkara from 3x3 Eyes. Each one may have its own ideas, but there's still a quori lurking in there, and no matter how hard you may try to dislike it, something in you likes being a psion, likes meditating, likes to explore the landscape of the mind held within the other creatures around you, to see those wonderful vistas pulsing and pounding, rolling onto shore like driftwood. You have a spirit inside that dictates a good half of what you do, and it's a good aligned being that's interested in expanding its psionic knowledge and its knowledge of all around it, as well as focusing on its own power and advancement. It'd be like a human being to decide one day that he isn't going to eat anymore. Ever. And if you hold off for too long, the quori part of you is going to get very upset that you're squandering what's within. |
| Neo07-19-04, 03:46 AM | DMAC I personally would love to see how you would depict a Warforged who viewed itself as female and had a feminine shell. It could of course be argued that as the warforged were made for war that none would have been made with a female shaped form, but I kind of like the notion that some would have been produced with female forms because cloaked and at a distance they could pass for female and go where a lumbering male version with swords welded to thier hands could not. An Infiltrator or Lure based Female shaped warforged.. |

No. There were true Quori beings sharing human hosts once, but they have been so diluted through reproduction that the Quori spirit is a mere shadow of itself. Yes it is still present, but as Hellcow pointed out in one of the Q+A threads, it can only really communicate through vague dreams and the like. Now if you choose to make all of your Kalashtar one way, that's fine. Go ahead and have fun with it. But just because a race is "usually LG", I won't be forcing that on players in my game. |
| hiryuu07-19-04, 04:30 AM | Oh, I didn't say all lawful good. I expect a lot more good than anything else, though. Chaotic Neutral seems blatantly and annoyingly out of character "just to be different" that it grates me as sandpaper drawn across the forehead. Dreams are still a big influence on the waking world, remember this. Especially in a place like Eberron. The character you describe seems to have a self-deafeating attitude, one which will come back to haunt her very quickly - almost frighteningly so (I'd start giving her problems in the first session - you've taken your entire race and thrown it in the gutter, and she expects to not have problems....yeah, right. Mister Assassin who's been tailing you for the past week hopes you keep that attitude when he makes his move). Of course, this could be what you're looking for, in which case you need to state that up front, otherwise you come off sounding lame and clichéd, though this in itself is a cliché, it's not an offensive one (what is offensive is this 'dare to be different' kick people are on, where something is one way 'just because' and never develops, Drizzt for example). |
| Choleric Psion07-19-04, 07:50 AM | DMAC My compliments to you. You're an amazing artist. That warforged monk you did was my favorite. I'd like to see your take on the two main characters from my story. If you get around to it, that would be cool. If you don't, its no big deal. Thanks in advance. The Yes, I get the same impression. At first I liked the idea of the kalashtar, then I realized that the lack of a distinctive appearance makes them a less appealing choice. Even my players who like psionics don't want to play one. I think giving them a more memorable appearance like the Inspired would be more interesting. For instance, they could have glowing eyes and brightly colored hair like the Inspired on page 291 of the ECS. But to set them apart from the evil Inspired, there should be something different about them. I'm not sure what that difference should be. |
| Joni-san07-19-04, 07:01 PM | Here's an idea for a sketch: A Warforged Bard, wearing a kilt (sp?) and playing bagpipes. That or some drums or any other instrument :P (I'd like it if the bagpipe one was done in the same style as the druid. And I do know that Keith adviced against instruments similar to flutes and bagpipes.) A changeling would be nice, perhaps in mid-change? I noticed that you didn't put up the Inquisitive or the other Shifter. Any reason why? And Herr Neck-harness and Mr.Piece-of-chain-on-chin are still waiting to be done. I noticed that the steampunk guy looks vaguely like an older me with shorter hair. Cool  You are truly 'da man DMAC :king: |

Every character is cliché, period. There is a finite limit to the number of different combinations of character and personality aspects which you can use, and there is an extremely high probability that anything you come up with has been used numerous times before. DMAC asked if anyone was doing anything with a Kalashtar besides a psion. I replied, posting the background of an NPC from a game I'm helping a friend flesh out before he runs it. She isn't different just to be different any more than a LG half-orc paladin, or a warforged cleric, or dwarven wizard. |
| Jason_Sunday07-19-04, 11:35 PM | Here is a Kalashtar for you. His name is Kasheth Shitha, he is a Monk/ Paladin. As he progress I plan to get feats like up the wall to give him a kind of matrix feel. He fights unarmed and with a longsword, Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon style. He will also have silver smite. He was raised in Adar until his early adolecents where he and his family were atempting to make the journey to Khorvaire, by boat. What they didn't realize was the ships crew were demons in disguise. After a few hours out to sea, the demons revealed their true form and killed all aboard, but young Kasheth. After arriving in a port off the coast of Khorvaire he snuck off the ship and and wandered the city. He was very hungry and was caught stealing from a shop owner. A Paladin of the Silver Flame took responsiblity for him and paid the shop owner. He took him under his wing and taught him to have faith in the Flame. He combined his martial arts with the his faith in the flame and now seeks to punish the demons who took his parents lives. |
| Boirin son of Naerin07-20-04, 12:44 AM | I'd like to start off by saying that you do some seriously awesome work DMAC. Heres my character Name is Reilun a half-elf sorcerer with dragonmarks: story is hes a down on his luck 3rd lieutenant (a position he holds only because of his magical talent and dragonmark) of a destroyed airship. His airship was crashed by the the eco-terrorist druids. Luckily the ship was descending to land and by a fluke he managed to survive. Hes hitch-hiked to Sharn (the at the time nearest city) and is looking for a way to get back on top of things. Hes flashy, charming, and (he thinks) exotic. He dresses in a way he thinks makes him look swashbuckling (though hes never swashed any buckles). He wears a puffy blue shirt, dusty brown pants, a thick leather belt, baldric with a copy of his dragonmark on a bronze disk, knee-high boots, and fingerless leather gloves. His hair is short cropped to keep it out of his way in high winds. When it rains he wears a worn oiled canvas poncho. His magic manipulates the weather (spells like shocking grasp and gust of wind fit perfect for his style). |

| Splendide07-24-04, 10:15 AM | Double post. Argh. |
| Splendide07-24-04, 10:15 AM | I'd really like to see a warforged farmer...take that whole `swords to ploughshares' catchphrase a step further. Not the world's most exciting idea, I know, but its got a bit of an Unforgiven feel to it. |
| Gan_chan07-24-04, 08:30 PM | Man, DMAC, those look great. That and the rest of the stuff over at yodaboys.com. There is a lack of Warforged images right now, I hope more will be coming soon. Oh, and can anyone good with photoshop bring some of DMAC's images down to avatar size, like 80H 80W pixels and 6kb? Messing with images isn't my strong point. I look foward to seeing more non normal Warforged: Bard, Paladin, Psion. Keep up the good work! -Gan_Chan |
| Joni-san07-26-04, 01:58 PM | Another vote for the Warforged Bard ( Here's a thread on them (http://boards1.wizards.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=278308) ) Perhaps one with an Irish Bagpipe (Uilleann Bagpipe) (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bagpipes#The_Irish_Bagpipe) And the Warforged farmer also seems neat :D |
| DMAC07-26-04, 02:02 PM | I had thought about doing sort of a "one man band" Warforged with a pipe organ, drums, cymbals, etc. all mounted on his back and shoulders. |
| Joni-san07-26-04, 02:10 PM | *Imagines what that would look like* OOOH!!! Please do draw one! Even a sketch will do :D A Warforged bard... :cloud9: In recent news: Joni-san was declared completely and utterly insane :looloo: |
| simon brumat07-26-04, 03:32 PM | Dont do it just dont not the BARDS:turkey: |
| Joni-san07-26-04, 05:19 PM | I have a few questions DMAC: *How long does it take for you to do a sketch that you deem good enough to post here? *How long does it take to finish a piece? I was just wondering how long we have to wait for our Bard :D |
| DMAC07-26-04, 05:55 PM | Heh. I sketched the two Changelings while watching "Smokey and the Bandit" on TBS the other night so I guess you'll have to wait until they run "Smokey and the Bandit 2". Burt Reynolds is my muse. :) |
| Liane the Wayfarer07-27-04, 11:28 AM | Beautiful work, Mr. Calvert! You've definitely got a handle on the feel of Eberron. I look forward to seeing your work on some semi-professional fan pieces, as well as hopefully in an Eberron scenario book. Originally posted by DreamingDark If he wants to impress his fellow Vol-mates, I recommend he use one of the slightly unnerving features of the Vol symbol. When I designed it, it was with the idea that one could hook the top 2 interior-facing points above the collar-bone behind the muscles stretching up the sides of the neck. Both painful and decorative... Let me add that, while I think Eberron is an excellent campaign, it takes more than good ideas to make a success. I believe that Keith's vision could not have prospered as much as it did without the talented work of artists such as yourself. Kudos! |
| DMAC07-27-04, 11:49 AM | Sweet, sweet kudos. |
| darkthought07-27-04, 02:06 PM | How about a snickers? |
| Dragonlover07-27-04, 10:58 PM | Ok, got a request: A female half-orc druid, who happens to be a member of House Tharashk (no dragonmark). She's holding an obsidian battle-axe that has a pick-head at the other end, in order to do some prospecting. Studded leather armour, a few scrolls sticking out of her pack (she's researching links between dragonmarks, 'shards and the prophecy). Tusks, but not particularly pronounced, and at least a vaguely feminine shape. Sorry if thats too constrictive/demanding/whatever, it's been typed pretty much as I thought it. Any chance of it being drawn? Dragonlover |
| Kaverael08-02-04, 12:34 AM | DMAC, hate to bug ya, but have you considered doing "Pantera" the Catwoman-like shifter I had requested so long ago? Also I am on the staff of the Korranburg Chronicle and would love for you to do a piece for an article I am working on. I don't want to give the story away here, but I need a "Wanted Poster" if you feel inclined to design it for me, let me know and I will e-mail the specifics to you. BTW the shifter/cleric is awsome!!!!!!! |
| DMAC08-03-04, 01:22 AM | Well, there's the female shifter rogue I drew earlier but I'm planning on re-working the drawing 'cause I'm not too thrilled with it as it stands. If there's anything you'd like to see added, I'm open to suggestions. http://www.yodaboys.com/eberron2.jpg |
| Lanson Halifax08-03-04, 10:45 AM | Any chance you can work on a Warforged Fighter, carrying a heavy flail? It's awfully difficult finding anything with heavy flails. :) |
| DMAC08-03-04, 10:54 AM | There was the one from the doodles I posted earlier: http://www.yodaboys.com/ebdoodles.jpg I'll probably work on something a bit more "finished" at some point. :) |
| Lanson Halifax08-03-04, 11:33 AM | Awesome! Very nice! Hope to see that one finished. :) |
| Save-vs-DM10-01-04, 06:49 AM | :bump: for great justice! Save vs DM |
| DMAC10-01-04, 07:54 AM | Heh. I haven't forgotten about Eberron but I have been busy lately with a freelance project. I'll be back. ;) |
| Fevil10-01-04, 07:55 AM | Thanks again everyone. As I said, feel free to post a description of your character or drop me an e-mail at calvertdarren@hotmail.com and if I have a chance to sketch something up I'll post it here. And the flood gates open... ;) Seriously though, kudos on some great art DMAC. I'm jealous, seriously jealous. Maybe when things calm down for you I might send a request you're way, but it looks like you're gonna be busy for a while. :) |
| lord zog10-01-04, 01:54 PM | Wow, that's some hella sweet stuff you've got going on there mate. Well cool. Since you're still open to ideas: A 20ish year old woman, semi-oriental in appearance, short hair, something subtley feline about her build. She's a Dragonmarked Heir of House Orien, currently with a Lesser mark curling along inside of her forearm like a certain sellsword's Azure Bond. She's been spending her life trying to resist the pressures and expectations of the family, deciding to slum it as a novice investigator for the Sharn Watch (rogue levels) until destiny calls and she has to leave the comforts of the city only to discover to her chagrine that she's surprisingly adept at surviving in the wilds (ranger levels). She's been through brutal battles that have almost killed her, seen companions murdered by cultists, and started climbing the social ladder she swore she never would (dragonmark heir levels) to try and build up enough leverage to remove the family thumb. And now she's just made an unpleasant discovery: the ward secretly tattooed on her as an infant by her father, the ward that that suppressed the lycanthropic curse unwittingly inflicted by him at the moment of her conception, has stopped working. She's feeling the first flush of her change into a were leopard... |
| Aaramis10-01-04, 02:57 PM | Is anyone doing anything interesting with the Kalashtar other than just a really good Psion? Well, for what it's worth, I just started a fan fiction story at the D&D Vault website ( http://dndvault.ign.com (http://dndvault.ign.com)) called the Path of Light , featuring 2 Kalashtar adventurers (or soon to be adventurers :p). Consider one a Psion-Shaper, and the other a Psion Warrior (was originally going to make him a Samurai, but some of the psionic feats seemed more suitable to the character concept I had in mind). I'd love to see some concept art portraits of them if anyone's bored and has the time ;) |
| Grahf X10-01-04, 04:54 PM | Here's my character A 127 yr old Elf Male from Sharn. He has black hair and blood red eyes with a cat's pupil. He also has a scar above and below each eye (vertical). He has a least mark of shadow on his chest. Unless necessary he usually doesn't keep his chest covererd so he can show it off. He is a Rogue, and wears Leather Armor and an assortment of picks and other tools of the trade that are contained on pouches attached to each leg and he has a bandoleer with six throwing daggers in it. He is known for the double sided red/black cloak that he always wears. Im not a very good artist so my own attempts to draw him ended in failure. Any help with a color illustration would be frigin awesome. |
