I didn't see this asked already, but the search function is disabled, so I apologize if it has.

I was creating an NPC cleric of Dol Arrah (LG) who is True Neutral. My question has to do with the Aura of the cleric described in the PH. It says a cleric emanates the alignment of her deity. So my Neutral cleric would have an aura of law and good?

This actually works well for my NPC if it masks her alignment. My other question has to do with clerics not losing their class abilities if they act against the precepts of their god.

In this case, is it possible for a cleric to switch gods. I know this wouldn't be a common occurance, but in this case my neutral cleric feels like she's explored LG enough and has taken an interest in the Cults of the Dragon Below. Would her domains change?

The more important question is can a PC switch gods, throughout a given campaign. Probably within a pantheon would be more "common".

I'm going to take a guess and say the most commong change of Deity is going from worshipping an entire pantheon, to a single deity of that pantheon.

But in general, I don't see a problem with characters changing their beliefs, as long as it's not a PC that suddenly develops an interest in a certain domain and thus wants to change deity...

I don't think the gods would care too much.

His old correligionary OTOH could be a little unhappy with it. (what? p.i.s.s.e.d is filtered now? *groan* )

I'm not practical with dol harra but if he was of the church of the silver flame could even receive the visit of some paladin or cleric that tries to persude him of the errors of his way... in a way or another. ;)

P.S maybe even his new brothers coud be a little untrusting, but this is less probable.

I'd have to read up a bit more on the alignment bit. However, if your character changes gods (and the new god does not share domains with the old one), then yes, you would have to pick new domains.

Yeah, I'm sure the church would be unhappy, but it seems the gods of Eberron are more aloof. She may even be able to keep her domains if she's questioning her beliefs and exploring others.

My question is more with the Aura described in the PH under cleric. Could she keep up appearances (detect good/evil) while she's questioning her faith? The description sounds like the aura is caused by the power of her god within her. In this case the connection with a god seems much more lax.

A cleric's aura corresponds to that of his diety, not his own alignment. Your TN follower of Dol Arrah will have an aura of Law and Good. To detect some inner turmoil you would need the new Detect Heresy spell from the newest Dragon issue (which contains some EXCELLENT new detect spells that fit well into Eberron). This is from the PHB, and as it is not superceded by a new rule in the ECS, it should still stand.

In addition, you can continue to cast spells while questioning your faith.

Cheers, hope this helps,

What would that mean for ur-priests then (from Book of Vile Darkness and The Complete Divine)?

From the little I've read I think that in Eberron Detect spell reveal your personal alignement, not your god's. Read the introduction of the Dragonshard article "religion in Eberron" for an example.

Detect spells doesn't mean much, just because you are evil doesn't mean you're not a faithful servant of the Silver Flame

This, in my opinion, is one of the best things about Eberron. Things aren't so "Black and White" anymore. It gives true flavor to the world and blurs lines of good vs. evil. I pity the first character that wants to play the traditional paladin in my campaign! ;)

I would also think that a few extra things need be considered here:

If someone was caught in the act casting such a detect spell, though a spellcraft check or what-have-you, it could be considered a strong violation of trust or a downright insult to the target of the spell. That, in itself, could open up a new world of sub-plots to explore.
-Would the target of the spell take such offense as to want the person in question removed from the picture, since they are seen as a threat to someone's security?
-Would the target be amused by their attempts and find a new pleasure in taking further actions to confuse the caster or manipulate them?

Also, for those who have alterior motives, aside from the outward goals of their faith/organization, I would think that they would take some necessary actions to subvert these attempts anyway. With magic being quite integrated into society, commisioning an item, or creating one, that would hide alignment, thoughts, etc. would be a great thing to own. From a DM's perspective, it also helps in keeping secrets just that, secret...allowing you some more time to keep the action and suspense going.

Okay, all of this gave me an idea for a Prestige Class. Let me know what you all think. How powerful would this be? How many +Spell Caster levels should there be?

Dual-channeler
Requirements: Neutral alignment (on the good/evil axis)
Able to cast divine spells
Class Features: Shift Domains, Dual-channel
Shift Domains: At 1st level the dual-channeler can choose at the beginning of the day, before memorizing spells, any two domains of their god.
At 3rd level the dual-channeler can change one of the selected domains (and thereby associated spells and domain granted power) 1/day.
At 6th level the dual-channeler can switch two domains 1/day.
At 9th level, two domains 2/day.
Dual-channel: At 5th level the dual-channeler can choose at the beginning of each day, before memorizing spells, which deity to infuse his/her body with. The character then has the aura of that god and access to the associated domains.
At 10th level the dual-channeler can switch deities 1/day with a full 10 minutes of concentration. This can be done in a minute(as a full round action?) by spending an action point.
