| irondog04-06-07, 01:31 PM | I just visted my local hobby shop and the owner told me that Eberron is done. WotC isn't going to release anymore content for it. I'd hate to see this happen. Can anyone confirm or deny this? |
| Nived04-06-07, 01:35 PM | You can look at the upcoming product list and see that there are plenty more books coming down the pike. |
| ornitholestes04-06-07, 01:36 PM | 2007 Product Releases for Eberron (http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=products/dndlist&brand=eberron&year=2007&tablesort=1) Unless this is some new development, I several products on that list scheduled for release. |
| korcheck04-06-07, 01:44 PM | my hobby shop said that eberron wasn't selling well for him either but on average if you look at the numbers we are doing better than FR as I understand it so I don't believe he is correct in this. true product release dates are spanning further apart but that makes sense because they have almost completed all of what I term as the core information books after this I would start looking for more history and detail oriented books. |
| SSj3goblin04-06-07, 01:50 PM | Most hobby stores owner don't know what they're talking about, this one (the one mentioned by the OP) is no exception. |
| Kryptonian Scion04-06-07, 02:04 PM | A lot of game/hobby store owners seem to have personal biases when it comes to product. It's honestly not a very intelligent way to do business. If this guy is telling people there's no more Eberron products coming out, that's money he's losing on potential sales. I personally can't stand Forgotten Realms, but you can bet that if I owned a game store I'd be pushing every new Realms release on my customers like crack, up on a soap box about what a great setting it is. Game stores vanish from the country every single month and people talk about them not making much money because of the price cutting on the part of huge retail stores. The fact of the matter is that if half these hobbyists-turned-salesmen took a single business class or stopped putting a personal spin on the products they are peddling, their sales would increase significantly. |

I heartily agree on this point. Truer words have never been said. |
| irondog04-06-07, 02:39 PM | I'm glad to hear that what I suspected was true. I had stopped in to find out when he thought he would have Eyesof the Demon Lich in and at first he told he didn't think he was getting it because in his words, "the Eberron line is done". Thanks for the info all. |
| loseth04-06-07, 02:54 PM | As others have pointed out, plenty of releases for 2007. That being said... RPG books that are general in nature (core books, books about a setting in general, etc.) tend to sell much better than books about more specific topics (a single class, a single aspect of a setting, etc.). And, of course, as more books come out, you have to get more specific to avoid repeating the same content. Because Eberron now has fairly good coverage in terms of source books, it would be tough to come up with concepts for many more Eberron source books that have generic appeal. So, I think that we'll see fewer and fewer source books coming out for Eberron until 4e is launched, when WOTC will have to make a decision about where they want to go with the setting. However, I suspect that we'll still see a slow-but-steady trickle of modules and lots of novels. Personally, there's not much more I want in terms of source books anyway. I really want a book on militaries and war, but that's coming out in June. Then I'd like a 'Secrets of' book for Khorvaire, and after that I'm pretty-much happy. If they could pump up the module production after that, it would be brilliant, but as I understand it, modules are poor sellers in comparison to source books and novels (:( ). |

I think it would also help if they could manage to dislodge their head from their ass periodically. Someone should point out to them that it makes it much easier to sit, the air is much fresher and people tend not to watch you to see what kind of damned-fool thing you'll say next. On the down side, they'll actually have to start buying hats to keep their ears warm, but think of the money they'll save on shampoo. |

Never once heard any biased or unprofessional opinions from him. He's also got a great sense of humor and stocks any line of books/series. |

The owner is seldom seen and he leaves running the place to the guy that loves gaming in all it's forms. He's pretty good at getting all the oddball off the wall stuff I ask him for, but since it's a small shop I have have him special order most of the really obscure stuff. |

He's also got a great sense of humor and stocks any line of books/series. I've got one like this near me too. I started out playing Magic: The Gathering casually, then tried out a game night at the local comic book store. The guys running the store were so nice, friendly, and entertaining that I just kept coming back. The people there actually remember me, what my tastes are, and such. It's why I buy from there instead of just online. |

Can anyone confirm or deny this? That's not the case -at least regarding the US. The shop keeper mostly meant that *he* will cease importing material for Eberron, mainly because the setting does not sell well in his shop's area. The same thing has been said to me by many hobby shop owners here in Rome when I went to buy some of the more recent products and campaign expansions for the Eberron world; but it's a fact that Eberron's sales in Europe are quite low.Seems like the setting fares better in the US. The Forgotten Realms run the gamut of campaign settings here in Europa. It has always been like that since 1987 with everything involved with D&D. |
| Edymnion04-07-07, 01:16 PM | Agreed. Eberron is not done by a long shot, and double agreement on "If the fanboys would take a few rudimentary classes in business management and accounting, then the gaming stores wouldn't be going under". Instead of trying to run it like a business, they are running it as exactly what *THEY* want to see. If they don't like Eberron, they won't carry but a token number of books, and will hide them in the back somewhere that nobody ever finds them, just to reinforce their idea that the line is dying. They won't point anyone to those books, and will instead try to get them to buy what they (they owners) like. And lo and behold, when the customer base finds out that that particular store doesn't carry a lot of the books they want, they will stop going there, which just makes it look like nobody wants it, and it falls into a vicious cycle. |
| korcheck04-07-07, 03:27 PM | I am happy with my local shop and do not think for a moment that his statements are biased he merely states they don't sell well for him. except for a few regulars like myself he only really sells about 4 to 8 eberron books a month so he doesn't stock that many and sets aside copies for me and the die hards. |

| Cambian0004-07-07, 04:53 PM | I think Im pretty lucky with the guy that owns "my" game store as well. Not only did I go to high school with him and been friends for about 20 years but he is an avid gamer, in all of its forms. His store is well stocked with everything you could possibly want in an RPG store. That and the fact that he's my DM at the moment makes for an awesome time for me... |

The DMs that run the other games I play in follow a standard rule that "you can only use rules in the books I own." If the DM owns the shop that would mean you could use rules from anything in his particular gaming kit as well as anything he has on the shelves, wouldn't it? |
| The White Sorcerer04-07-07, 07:53 PM | On the down side, they'll actually have to start buying hats to keep their ears warm, but think of the money they'll save on shampoo. That's only if you assume game store owners use shampoo. But hey, since their heads are in their asses, they don't need to. They'll just use real poo, instead.:D |

There's a myriad of topics yet to be covered: Khyber, the planes, the "wild" nations of Khorvaire, Aerenal, Argonessen, Ancient Empires, Noir Champions/Pulp Champions (to complement FR's Champions of Ruin/Valor), etc. Heck, just the nation of Zilargo and the other gnomes of Khorvaire could rate their own sourcebook, easily! |

Not to mention that each of the Five Nations could be further developed. The empire of Dhakaan could be examined a bit more closely. Each of the twelve nations could be used as a basis for twelve books. Closer examination of the artificer could be another book. An overview of the magical technology of Eberron could be yet another. The setting is far from fleshed out completely, it would take dozens of books to get it even half the way to the point where the timeline would have to be advanced or the setting abandoned. |
| Millenia04-09-07, 02:55 AM | Don't forget the planes of Eberron! |
| hiryuu04-09-07, 06:29 AM | I disagree. Considering the way alignment works in Eberron, antiheroes are going to be a lot more common, since nobody in Eberron really has the "let's do some evil because we're so evil!" 1980s cartoon supervillain outlook so prevalent in Faerun, which would make a combination book certainly possible. I could see a book detailing rajahs and elder "evils" of a sort, like the daelkyr and so on, but a book detailing "good guys" would be very slim, since most "good guys" in Eberron have a lot of dark secrets floating around with them, or are even evil at the core (like the Blood of Vol). That said, there's still a boatload of stuff to go. We know a Dragons of Argonessen book is looming our way, at least. |
| The White Sorcerer04-09-07, 08:13 AM | That said, there's still a boatload of stuff to go. We know a Dragons of Argonessen book is looming our way, at least. To be precise, it's Dragons of Eberron. Not all of those scaly bastards hang out in Argonnessen. |
| hiryuu04-09-07, 09:21 AM | Changed the title since I last heard it, then. I'm so out of the loop..... |

All of these definitely could have their own sourcebooks. Trollanport could have its own sourcebook. They just wouldn't sell as well as ones with more generic appeal. They'll still put sourcebooks out, just probably not at the rate we've seen to date. |
| ElberethSilverleaf04-09-07, 10:22 PM | I just visted my local hobby shop and the owner told me that Eberron is done. Well we can only hope and pray this is true... |

If this guy is telling people there's no more Eberron products coming out, that's money he's losing on potential sales. This is one reason why I very rarely support my local (F)LGS ... I have *rarely* found them friendly, not in the least. They're usually opinionated and cliquish and close-minded. Add to that the generally higher prices and I have no trouble giving my hard-earned cash to Amazon.com! :) |

| Nuclear_Buddha04-10-07, 12:04 PM | Noir Champions/Pulp Champions Dang, but that's a super idea. |
| Euangelion04-10-07, 04:55 PM | Dang, but that's a super idea. Thanks! Of course, if WOTC likes the idea but can't find enough of their own people to work on it, I guess I'd take one for the home team. ;) |
| crashbangboom04-12-07, 08:55 AM | for someone who can't (aparently) stand eberron you picked an interesting avatar. :nonono: :rolleye2:  |
| Nundahl04-12-07, 09:00 AM | for someone who can't (aparently) stand eberron you picked an interesting avatar. :nonono: :rolleye2:  I'm not defending anyone ... just stating a simple and honest opinion ... I think ElberethSilverleaf was being A) Sarcastic and B) Stating that he hopes the setting is done as in "complete" ... My meaning being that he hopes its "done" because he's probably been running it for some time, hopefully a complete product considered how much he's invested in it ... Of course I could be wrong, I just wanted to throw that out just in case. |
| WolfHati04-13-07, 02:12 AM | I don't hope they publish too much more that's considered Eberron canon... honestly I really like the open endedness of the campaign setting and the freedom it provides, and some of the factions/flavor text/abilities in the other books seems to me second rate compared to how cool I think the campaign setting itself is--I don't want to see it too diluted. That being said, more about the Dhakaani empire would be friggin' awesome. |
