| eehamburg10-23-06, 03:39 PM | The Mighty Hellcow has graced us with another fine example of his work. http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=dnd/ebee/20061023a Upon reading it, what were your impressions? Are you planning on using anything that he says? Was Talaron a city within the now-named Sarlonan Country of Rhiavhaar or was it another world destroyed by Daelkyr? Which of these options presented by KB do you like? Or do you have an alternative? Let's hear about it if you do. I prefer to make it a city and keep all of Eberron self-contained. The moment that I let other worlds become part of it, well ... it can quickly spire out of control. If the players want to bring PCs from other places, well ... they need to find explanations as to how they got there ... but otherwise, I try to keep everything self-contained. Do you view the Inspired as being corrupted descendants of Talaron? Are the exiles of Talaron in the Lhazaar? What effect do the Diamond Knights have in your Eberron? Are they allies of the Gatekeepers and natural enemies of the Cult of the Dragon Below as KB mentioned? This example makes sense to me. How do you explain the illithid in your campaign? Are they spawn of Daelkyr or do they have some other origin? Do you use Kech Uul and illithid-goblinoid creations? I view them as Daelkyr creations.... After reading about Kech Uul, I'm going to have to use that ... it sounds like a good plot twist to throw in some illithid-goblinoid creations. How do you view the synad? Do you run them? Are they related to the Kalashtar at all? Are they a created race? I haven't given this much thought. Maybe, they can somehow be a combination of the 2?? Don't know ... will have to look into it. What about the new classes & prestige classes? How do you use them? I let whatever people like to use be used as long as it makes sense and fits in. Overall, I like how KB presents alternatives to be used. In addition, I like that it gives more insight into Sarlona and what may be going on over there or what might have gone on over there the past. Good job. Let's discuss this new article within this thread. Enjoy. |

| goblin_pride10-24-06, 08:47 AM | Sorry mate, psionics isn't my bag, I'm gonna have to read that a dozen times before it all makes sense to me. The Kech Uul I'll prob'ly use though. |
| eehamburg10-24-06, 08:48 AM | Psionics may not be a lot of people's bag ..... but .... there just seemed to be a lot of info about Sarlona in the article that I thought could be or would be used by people. |

Oh well. I read it. However, I don't have Complete Psionic (my players have mostly avoided using psionics, so it would be a wasted purchase) and I have almost no interest in Sarlona which much of the article was focused on. I'm hoping there is another "Eberron Expanded" soon which covers a book I'm interested in (at least interested in now). |
| eehamburg10-24-06, 10:13 AM | what books are you interested in? |
| esfoad10-24-06, 12:50 PM | I'm just now getting heavily into the Eberron settings (all but leaving FR behind) and am looking to buy every book I can that can be applied to our sessions. That was such a great write up from Baker on the Complete Psionics books but I've seen quite a few bad reviews on the book itself. I'm torn whether or not to order it sight unseen or to try and flip through it first before making the purchase. Anyone here already have the book and can give us some feedback? |

I highly recommend flipping through any book before purchase, but that's just me. By the way, welcome to Eberron. :) The classes are cool, if probably a bit weak. The Synad are pretty cool. The major exception that most of the Psi-boards cognoscenti have is the insertion of errata that seems to serve no purpose other than to increase the power level gap between magic and psionics, such as stating that psionic powers that do slashing, piercing, or bludgeoning damage (like crystal shard) are affected by DR, whereas spells that do the same (like Evard's Black Tentacles) have no such errata and are NOT affected by DR by the Rules As Written ... and a nerf to Astral Construct that prevents you from having more than one in play at a time, when a sorcerer or druid can drop all the Summon Monsters or Summon Nature's Allies that they want and swarm the field. |
| Kreistor110-24-06, 02:53 PM | I don't worry about how to integrate something until I need it or a player wants it. The Synad, for instance. A Player wants to play one, so I came up with a solution. His current character would wind up becoming a Synad as the result of Daelkyr experimentation. No race, just a freak. He's thinking about changing the concept to Kalashtar now, so that effort looks wasted. |
| eehamburg10-24-06, 03:23 PM | I'm not so much interested in how to integrate the Complete Psionic into my campaign as much as the other ideas that KB set forth detailing other items of Sarlona. This information, I can use. And it is this information, that I find interesting. |
| Neofish10-24-06, 04:25 PM | Man, I still can't get over the stupidity that is the Illithid Heirtage feats... Although, the Keck Uul is a great idea and will serve for the main villians in my next adventure, just gotta swap Illithid feats for Aberrant ones and bingo. |
| DBlizzard10-24-06, 04:31 PM | what books are you interested in? Anything but Complete Psionic and the Book of 9 Swords (even the books I don't own now like the environmental series). I'd really prefer to see the PHB II (especially affiliations), DMG II, Libris Mortis and Heroes of Horror (even though I don't own that one) covered. |

Most of those are already covered by Eberron Expanded. PHB II : http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=dnd/ebee/20060911a Libris Mortis: http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=dnd/ebee/20060130a & http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=dnd/ebee/20060220a He didn't do DMG II, the environments, or Heroes of Horror. He did do Weapons of Legacy, Heroes of Battle, and Lords of Madness. |
| eehamburg10-24-06, 04:55 PM | Man, I still can't get over the stupidity that is the Illithid Heirtage feats.... I agree ... seems kind of stupid to turn yourself into an Illithid. Although, the Keck Uul is a great idea and will serve for the main villians in my next adventure, just gotta swap Illithid feats for Aberrant ones and bingo. Let us know how that works for you. |
| Neofish10-24-06, 05:14 PM | I agree ... seems kind of stupid to turn yourself into an Illithid. That's easy, you just let a little tapole eat your brain, that's the only way Illithids are made, you can't be related to an Illithid because they are asextual, they don't have kids. Makes no sense what so ever. Let us know how that works for you. I'm still working up on the idea, but I was thinking of a RE4 style game. I was gonna set it on an isle in Lhazzar in which a Dragon Below cult was raiding ships and then the cult leader was attaching symbiots to them to keep them under control, like RE4. But with the Kech Uul, I can make it so that instead of controled strangers, its a refuge for the Kech Uul when they fled into shadow, there, they have been biding their time, amassing an army (perhaps I will still use symbiot thralls) and trying to awaken their god (a Daelkyr under the isle perhaps?). Anyway, it belongs in another thread, sorry for derailing the topic. |
| eehamburg10-24-06, 05:33 PM | Anyway, it belongs in another thread, sorry for derailing the topic. Not really a derailment since it is related to the article that KB wrote with ideas that he presented. So, therefore, it works fine. :D |
| DBlizzard10-24-06, 06:13 PM | Most of those are already covered by Eberron Expanded. I forgot about Liber Mortis. For the PHB II I meant a follow-up to it touching on the other areas of the PHB II. |

Makes no sense what so ever. Actually, considering the wholly different nature of Illithids in Eberron, they may not. That's main-continuity canon, but who knows how it works in Eberron. I like the idea, personally. Illithid feats are really just a sub-set of Aberrant feats, anyway. All more of the same. |

Oh no, I agree totally that the reason for illithid feats that Keith gave are excellent and very inspiring. I just don't like the actual illithid feats, from Complete psionic, they are feats that are mislabled, an illithid cannot have be apart of your familiy because it doesn't produce offspiring and can't mate with other creatures. I still like the Kech Uul, I like the idea of a tainted Dhakaani clan, but instead of illithid feats I will use aberrant ones. I also like the ideas as aberrant feats as "gifts" for those who whorship the dragon below or those who live close to Daelkyr seals. Those are all great ideas and answers to a horrid feat chain. |

Here's my quick interpretation of how Illithid Heritage works.. Normally, Illithids reproduce through spawning and ceromorphosis. However, there are some Illithids who experiment using Psychometabolism and Illithid Grafts to create Half-Illithids (from Fiend Folio), some of which escape and manage to breed.. |

That's pretty good, but why is the Mind Flayer gene a dominate trait that can be carried along for several generations? Magic I guess eh? Fair enough, I guess it it's possible... |
