Another "names" thread. :) I'm having trouble translating some Eberron races into Finnish.

Warforged: sotakone? konesoturi?
Changeling: muuttuja?
Shifter: ? (seems like it'd be translated to nearly the same as Changeling)

Alright! Suomi! I'm liking this trend in translations...

"Changeling" and "Shifter" do have strong similarities. The real difference is a bit archaic.

A couple centuries ago, people believed that the faeries (the less pleasant ones) would still babies from their cribs and leave an imitation in its place-- a "changeling." There's several English folk tales about how to spot a changeling and get the original child back.

So, the most convenient tactic might be to look at the language's associated mythology and see if anyting matches up. Anything in the Kalevala about baby snatching?

i started the german translations..
and i think your proposal is great.. since i know quite a lot of mythologies this might work. i will take a second look at the german words.

but i don't think it is "convinient". doing translations this way is quite hard.

btw.. i read the kalevala, too. (in german), and IIRC, there are hardly any babys in it, except Marjatta's son, who has no father, besides a cowberry. too bad i don't remember his name.

Changeling = Vaihdokas. That's the official translation of the word.
Warforged = Taottu (not very good, I know).
