The other night while going slightly mental listening to Ukulele de Chocobo and trying to find out what I should do for my group that is going to be done the GotEC soon, I was at about whits end.
When I stumbled across an old art book of mine, which I am in habbit of buying for ideas for games, but this was no ordinary art book, and it was actually qwite old too at that. It was the Art of Magic the Gathering, a booked based on the art and stories behind the Rath Cycle in MtG.
Well now, and I sat back and began to read it cause I haven't seen this book in the open for almost 5 yrs now....and low the ideas came the more I read. This whole story of the crew of the Weatherlight and of the legacy seem almost perfectly made for Eberron.
I mean the story of Gerrard could be given to any of the Dragon marked races and the "leader" of the Pcs as it where, and the Weatherlight herself could simply be a relic they find left over from the Galifar period in time (or even a relic found in Xen'Drik) , a mysterious thing to be sure. And the PC playing the warforged even looked at Karn and saw some cool ideas for his character to take on as personality traits and ideas for where to steer his character.
For the villians and all, well that is almost too simple to see... Volrath would be a Daelkyr without a dout who escaped from Kyber easily enough or is one who has gotten a way back and forth for his minions none the less. Greven Il-vec can be a power hungry person who stumbled across Volrath and has been given a living breast plate and is now Volrath's puppet and general.
And of course the pieces of the "Legacy" can be parts of the Draconic Prophecy perhaps and everything else seems to fit in here and there with little or no tweeking as far as NPCs and monsters.
Now my only issue as of writing the skeleton of this down is that the book only lists a few parts of the Legacy, and I am somewhat stuck as to how to make up more pieces. The ones shown seem to benifit the Weatherlight, and some hint that they care only usable my specific members of the crew (the PCs) if I am not mistaken. This is where I hit a stumbling block cause my party is kinda exotic in it's make-up.
I have a Umbragen Shadow Soulknife, a Zliargo Gnome Sorcerer, a Elan Psion originally from Cyre, a Warforged Fighter who is more then he knows (a special type that was never given the chance in combat due to the Thronehold and all) and a Changeling Con-artist (remake of a Rogue with almost all social skills).
Now I want to make items that will beifit both the Weatherlight (the ones already given in the book) but I also want to come up with cool ones to give the players that are kinda "me and me alone" types. Any constructive help is VERY much appreciated as well as any cool story twists and other fun things to make the players say "...why us....?"
Thanks for any help and ideas given.....

here's some parts of the legacy (taken from an Ask Wizards question from August 19, 2004):
Chimeric Sphere
Juju Bubble;
Karn, Silver Golem;
Mind Stone;
Null Rod;
Skyshaper;
Skyship Weatherlight;
Squee's Toy;
Thran Forge;
Thran Tome;
Touchstone;
Tooth of Ramos,
Eye of Ramos,
Skull of Ramos,
Heart of Ramos,
Horn of Ramos.

and, if I remember correctly, Gerrard Capashan himself.

when it was all gathered, it turned into the Legacy Weapon in order to (attempt to....) destroy Yawgmoth, Lord of Phyrexia (didn't quite work, but that's a diffrent point.....)

Wow thanks Relanir, that makes it a lot easier then tracking down through all my old MTG cards and whatnot..... Coolies.....
Now just to attach them all to someone or something for the ship and her crew and it's all good.... anyone wanna help with that?
As always any and all help is appreciated.

That's funny, I have that book in my lap right now. I use it all the time for ideas. (mostly the images though, I get lots of ideas just from pictures)

If it seems particularly relevant to Eberron to you, that may be because Mark Tedin did a lot of the concept art for both projects. (Eberron and The Rath Cycle that is)

edit- I guess that doesn't really help with your question at all. Sorry.

Wow, of all of those, I only remember 4. And three are obvious as to what they should be (Karn, Skyship Weatherlight, and Gerrard).

But I would think Squee's Toy would offer an ability to be activated 1/day and prevent all damage to you for 1 round.

Well, if you have the time, the story of Gerrard, the Weatherlight, Legacy, etc was a decent trilogy of the MTG novels... I believe the Invasion series, but I could be mistaken.

As I recall, they were a pretty quick read, and they would give you a pretty good idea of what the Legacy contained, what the capabilities were of the crew, etc, etc.... I'd try to give some more info, but its been a few years since I have packed up those novels in a move and never gotten around to unpacking them...

You're welcome......I enjoy helping other people- it's just that usually, someone else has already said what I know.....

Anyway, I personnally doubt Volrath would be a daelkyr- daelkyr modified, probably, but not a daelkyr himself- he is a human(and gerrard's adoptive brother, at that....), he just was heaily modified by Yawgmoth to the point of being unrecognizable(and a shapeshifter). .....Random idea- if you want to stay a bit closer to the Magic plotline, you could have Yawgmoth be a daelkyr- it's rather fitting, now that I think of it, even though he was also once human........AND YOU COULD HAVE SLIVERS! THEY CAN TAKE OVER THE WORLD! or not.....
And that's my random opinions/ideas/plot spoilers/nonsensical sliver love

Wow, been 4 months since I have been able to work on this campaign idea, but anyways, I have been tweeking around with some of the rules for Sky ships and all, and was wondering something. Aside from being able to sail or fly, what else was special about the Weatherlight?
That and I have been having a damned time coming up with ideas for what the items of the Legacy should do.... damned writer's block and all. (That and I have to start all over again cause my group fell apart) As always, any help is appreciated

Oh and Relanir, thanks for the idea about Yawgmoth, I am working on that right now myself.
