| Morgengrauen07-25-06, 05:31 AM | Are there any ongoing military combat zones in Eberron? I want to use the "Heroes of Battle" sourcebook. The Last War is over, are there any remaining battles? Are there any fight between humanoid lands? |
| ieattrollsforbreakfast07-25-06, 07:29 AM | Nothing on a large scale, but the elves of Valenar still make raids in the Talenta Plains and Karrnath, and the monsters of Droaam occasionally cross the borders. To make best use of Heroes of Battle, it's probably best to rewind the timeline to the Last War (or at least have a little flash-back if your game is already underway). Of course, nothing stop you from creating a new conflict. Perhaps the Lord of Blades has finally achieved a strong enough force to march on the Five Nations, or maybe the Last War starts anew. |

There are some other squabbles but nothing major outside of the constant siege of Adar by Riedra. So yeah, flashback to the Last War OR start the next big war OR have things heat up between certain nations. Droaam and Breland seems the most likely conflict to erupt, especially if you didn't want the whole world to get involved. |

If the PCs get caught in such an event, they have to fulfill some specific action (or series of actions) to end the battle once and for all and put the 'ghosts' to rest. Armies might or might not be actual undead in the traditional sense. Settings could be parts of the Mournland there might be places where the dead cannot rest because the battle they were engaged in was never decided. Similar things exist in Xen'drik (Elves against Giants, Giants against Dragons or Quori using elves and whatever humanoids look similar enough). The Crying Fields between Thrane and Aundair might also work. Perhaps you can even set it during a coterminous phase of Dollurh, or both Dollurh and Shavarath (sp?). Anyway, probably not what you are looking for given that it is at least as much "Heroes of Horror" as it is "Heroes of Battle", and gives a rather different flavour. |

| The Dreaming Duck07-25-06, 07:20 PM | There are lots of battles waiting to happen. If you're willing to focus on small conflicts, I think there could easily be ongoing skirmishes between Thrane and Aundair or Thrane and Karrnath - not the full nations, but individual units skirmishing across the border in spite of the overall peace. Beyond that? According to Five Nations, tensions are very high between Karrnath and the Mror Holds; so, a Dwarf-Karrn conflict could break out at any time. By page 205 of the ECS, Holy Uldra could raise a force of Talenta halflings to strike against foreigners, particularly Karrnath. Also by the ECS, Kaius has his own troubles with potentially rebellious warlords, so you could have a civil war within Karrnath. So, no wonder Kaius is trying to make peace with the others of the Five Nations - at any time, Karrnath could be struck with civil war, Mror assault, and halfling raiders... and Thrane might take advantage of that! Looking beyond the many perils of Karrnath, the high tensions between the humans and lizardfolk of Q'barra could certainly break into full-scale war at any time. Aundair could decide to reclaim the eastern lands of the Eldeen Reaches. And if you wanted to really go nuts, you could have a barbarian horde emerge from the Demon Wastes under command of an epic-level Lord of Dust! |
