As long as WotC has their own D&D minis line, even if it's just their plastics, they're not likely to license out anything D&D specific to a competing manufacturer. Especially since the current game comes on the heels of their Chainmail minis, the company is especially sensitive to how their new game turns a profit. Without that license, the third party manufacturer is faced with having to release something that looks like a warforged but without calling it a warforged, and possibly face the wrath of WotC's Intelectual Property Lawyers despite their clever ruse. While companies like Reaper may have gotten away with such tricks in the past (Reaper's Bathalians for instance, which bear an uncanny resemblence to D&D's designated-as-product-identity illithids for instance) one can only push their luck so far. Still, I wouldn't put it past Reaper to try some sort of "armored-plated wooden golems" at some point. After all, they've skirted the edges of D&D intelectual property before. Their "Bathalian" mind flayers, their "Eye Beast" Beholders, and in one recent release, a Psychic Warrior (Dara, Psychic Warrior, #2881) that looks so much like the character from the Psychic Warriror Iconic Art by Sam Wood (who was a human named Ma'varkith in 3.0 and a Manead named Ragnara in 3.5) that it's doubtful that it's mere coincidence. |

| Lucifer_the_Puritan04-12-05, 04:19 PM | I hope that Reaper does. Those pre-painted & horribly molded plastic abominations passing as "minitures" SUCK!If WOTC/Hasbro wants to produce minis for D&D they should either go full out and produce metal (non-painted) minis or liscence the rights to Reaper. The only good those "so-called " minis are for is mini-targets for shooting with a bb/pellet gun.I hope the miniture line dies only r****ds must buy them.L8r Lucifer_the_Puritan |
