I've been wondering what Eberron would be like several thousand years in its future.
A lot of Eberron material deals with stuff that may take quite a while to happen, such as the return of Xoriat or the long-viewed plots of the Lords of Dust. I was thinking that it would be interesting to have a campaign that starts in the present setting of Eberron and sets something small into motion (a few threads pulled by Blood of Vol or the Lords of Dust, for instance).
Then the next session jumps thousands of years into the future where the relatively small actions by those both good and evil in the past become key events that a new batch of heroes must deal with.

Eberron would be quite a bit different, I'm sure. What are everyone's ideas for what Eberron would be like in the future?

Depending on the actions of my players either a Xoriat #2 or still Eberron :)

Depending on the actions of all other players you either have hell, xoriat, dal quor or a planet of undead live on eberron...

Don't forget the possibility of an entire planet covered in Mourning, ruled by the now-Godforged Lord of Blades.

:D Well I was hoping for some ideas other than the post-apocolyptic ones, though that's definately a possibility. What WOULD happen with the warforged though. Would they have worn down/rusted away by now or are they still around as good as ever (although almost all of them would have the age penalty by now). Perhaps they restarted the Cannith forges or something? What sort of magical advances have they made by now?

and of course....how tall has Sharn gotten?

For starters, assuming Khorvaire society has survived (a very big assumption without some major levels of high-level PC prevention), the magic-renaissance would have led to the magic-industrial revolution.

Dragonmarked Houses would basically rule the continent through commerce, magical weapons emulating Earth's 1800+ tech would appear, Sharn would have expanded and the King's forest would be gone, as well as perhaps the monarchy in general.

The Treaty of Thronehold would have broken at some point causing more war, and if the nations now there still existed, the borders would have drastically shifted. Honestly, I would foresee one nation conquering everything again, and it going back to being like the "United States of Galifar" or somesuch.

Warforged have no upper age limit - those alive now would in theory, with good repair and maintenance, be alive then.

Seriously though, the Riedrans are building monoliths non-stop over there and getting more and more access to Khorvaire. In 2000+ years, if the Inspired aren't wiped out, the Dreaming Dark will own this world, forever.

Edit: Unless the dragons of Argonessen get off their butts and DO something for a change.

Assuming of course, that the Great Wheel hasn't turned and the Dream of the Age changed to something new by then. That would wipe out all the quori and their works, no matter what their preparations.

If you believe the Kalashar (and who would know better?) then the Inspired are the ones under the deadline, not them. All they have to do is hang tight in Adar for long enough, and the Dream of the Age will change.

Which is something that I think gets overlooked a lot in discussion of how unbeatable the Dreaming Dark is. As things stand right now, their doom is inevitable. They're the ones who have to succeed in saving their themselves, and all the heros have to do is keep blocking their attempts for long enough.

You can't really blame the dragons. They just don't do things halfway.

It might be interesting if a few Reforged found, delving through druidic knowledge, a way for them to procreate like a plant. This could be some kind of seeds they generate or maybe finding a way to be born from trees, something like an Orcwort tree (MM III, I think).

This would create a whole new race and the original warforged would probably be seen as barbaric relics of war and slavery. They may have even been instrumental in reclaiming the Mournland, moving in to reform land as its reclaimed by other nations.

The Lord of Blades could be destroyed in this war or maybe he found a way to transfer his essence to an ancient giant creation starting a new kingdom deep in the jungles of Xen'drik.

As for Sarlona, I think the humans there would eventually break free of the hold of the Inspired/Quori. Maybe the Quori are destroyed (as noted above) leaving the Inspired rulers suddenly alone with relics of their alien masters. Without a singular vision from the Quori, the separate rulers will break down into warring kingdoms. Perhaps something similar to the Last War.

And the Khorvairians, now united, will be the diplomats trying to keeping the newly formed Sarlonan nations from destroying each other. But what are their intentions? Are they slaves of the Lords of Dust? Have the Daelkyr been able to grab hold now that Dreaming Dark has left a power vacuum?

Possible eberron 1000-2000 years out

Sarlonna: Even if the wheel turns, whats to say the next gen quori don't intend on taking over eberron, for different reasons. maybe they see eberron as too decadent or even a lost cause, and decide to continue the plan to come to eberron and start a fresh slate on the surface. Whats good for the kalashtar might not be any better for the rest of eberron in the long run, just a different set of invaders.

Sharn: Ruins, collapsed under it's own weight when the couterminous(whatever) zone wasn't as permanent as they thought, or was disrupted during another war.

Valenar: Expands it's borders through conflict and blood vengence. Possibly wiped out by other nations bc of same resons for being too troublesome.

Aerenal: total isolationist xenophobes after the cleansing of valenar. occaisional dragon war.

Main Khorvaire/breland: Recovering from eldritch plague unknowingly brought back from xendrik that was finally wiped out, but at great cost in lives.

Xendrik: Travel from here to khorvaire banned following eldritch plague without special permission from ruling bodies. Stormreach deserted, whole continent under quarentine. Deep in xendrik, extraplanar invaders prepping as staging area. Artificer unlocks cause of Giant reversion, and several centuries later, small population of bred neo-giants begin to reclaim lost arts from ruins, hunted by drow.

Thrane: During massive battle with karnnath, then high priest(ess) of silver flame succumbs to vampirism, slain. demon bound in the flame escapes, quatl leaves in pursuit, no more flame. church covers this up for centuries until recently, despair grips thrane.

Shadow Marches: sinks over time, now 1/5th of original size.

Mournlands: Barren after the war of the forged, in which khorvaire briefly allied itself to defeat the lord of blade's armies. The still living head of LoB is now kept in a vault in the mror holds. The dwarves consult with it in thier battles with the forces of khyber.

Mror holds: Much like the barbarians of the demon wastes, the mror hold dwarves now act as guardians against the forces of khyber after digging too far. They wage a constant war in the depths that is kept hidden from the surface world. The only sign of anything wrong is a rapid decrease of ore output over time, now at 20% of the 'good times'. When asked, they claim the mineral veins are drying up, not wanting to damage dwarven pride. Ore prices are now inflated drastically and construction has greatly slowed to a minimum.

Argonessen: covered in dead grey mist, no one is sure why, dragons almost extinct, only young dragons and a handful of old dragons remain. they wont discuss what happened, only that the prophecy continues to unfold.

karnnath: After war with thrane followed by several harsh winters, the war weary population revolted and executed the royal family (including Princess Annastapia, who for years later was impersonated by many women as the surviving hier). Necormancy was outlawed. The people now flirt with a new form of government of the ppl, for the ppl, and by the ppl. Democracy takes root and begins to speadd amongst the karnathi lands. The other nations are wary of this form of government.

Great job Jimmifett, I like your ideas.

Next weekend is Conquest Sac. Keith Baker is going to be there, and the theme is "Time Travel". I've heard rumors that he's doing a "Time Travel in Eberron" seminar, and I'll be there and report back with info.

Another idea is to think of a new Age...

Age of Undead
-The rajah Katashka the Gatekeeper of Death is freed from the bounds of the Silver Flame.
-The rituals of Aerenal heretics backfire and Irian becomes permanently remote.
-After a series of famines, the Blood of Vol becomes the dominant religion in Khorvaire.
-A House Jorasco halfling with the Siberys Mark of Healing and an eldritch machine accidentally opens a massive permanent portal to Dolurrh

Age of Constructs
-The Lord of Blades raises an army and conquers Khorvaire
-The ban on warforged creation is lifted and eventually constructs outnumber nonconstructs
-Quori spirits begin possessing inanimate objects
-House Cannith makes a pact with powerful inevitables to sell minor constructs from the plane of Daanvi, but after several hundred years Khorvaire must pay the piper

Age of Deities
-Avatars of the Sovereign Host and Dark Six appear before their followers
-The Draconic Constellations send Aspects of the Dragon Gods to rule the world
-The moons disappear and huge beings of moonstuff walk the earth
-The sun proclaims itself the true progenitor dragon and begins heating the earth in areas of nonbelievers

A traveler from some alternate future might have any one of these tales of future history to tell.
