Eberron or FR connection or easter egg? [Archive] - Wizards Community

09-05-05, 06:58 PM In the Law and Order chapter of Sharn: City of Towers there is a picture of two people hiding from law enforcement. Look closely at the book on the table. It says Faerun. Is it a spelljammers guide to Faerun or something similar, or just something they stuck to see if we would see it?

09-05-05, 07:23 PM Wow, thats pretty strange. I wonder if Lucio Parrillo (the name of the artist) put that in there and was amazed that editing didn't catch it. What ever the case, thats an interesting find, I wouldn't have ever noticed. I never palyed FR, so I can't help much on the connection. I can save everybody some trobule though.

The second one isn't very big I know. I've tried placing it as my background which didn't work very well. You'll just have to trust us, there's a clearly readable A E R U (if I'm not mistaken with two dots above it) N And above that it looks like the Dungeons and Dragons symbol. Those who have a great knowledge of FR art might be able to tell us what the picture is. Looks like some caster shootin lightning. Thats the best I can make out I'm afraid. Good luck to everyone else on tellin us where the art came from.

09-05-05, 09:33 PM I guess it kind of makes sense... Eberron is meant to seem a bit more realistic, where people aren't exactly on a daily communion with the Gods. Faerun would have a certain draw to the people of Eberron, much as it does a significant number of people who don't feel like they're having the full gaming experience without being able to reallign the cosmos on a whim. I'm sure Eberronites would think of Forgotten Realms much as we in the real world do... I mean, really... Deities roaming unchecked? Scores upon scores of powerful mages, a large number of which capable of individually creating a new Mourning at will? Drow being some of the most ruthless and yet highly cultured people in the world, and worshipping an insane goddess who bids they mate with demons? Dragons marauding wholesale?

Pure pulp fantasy ;)

09-05-05, 09:46 PM Yes, its the Forgotten Realms Campaign Setting book. If you notice, the cover is on backwards though.

The caption is about finding a fugitive. I like to think its not the abberant marked guy holding a hostage thats the fugitive, but that BOTH of them are fugitives from justice because they were playing in Faerun ;)

09-06-05, 07:48 AM it's called artistic license. It usually means the artists have NO idea what they are drawing, or no idea what the rules are. It also means the editors didn't catch it.

09-06-05, 08:32 AM I got it! all the forgotten saga are actual books in eberron! kids read it, adults love'em! they even have a very fantastic game "forgotten realms" and people calle it magic-fiction because well, it COULD be possible, but is so improbable that doesn't make any sense! i mean...a single wizard fighting an army? crafting items without dragonshards? halflings and gnomes beign almost comic relief? of course, the talenta halflings and the trus are not very fond to the novels, and many would like to give Salvatorus, one of the bards that writte the story (currently living in Sharn with an elf ranger/bard named Greenwood) a non so friendly pat in the back...with a mace.
That would be fun! i also run a campaign in the realms...and my players could read about THEIR OWN CHARACTERS as mythical characters, i think that would like them. It could be fun watching the human rouge get so attached to the human paragon rogue/illusionist/arcane trickster that he'll want to emulate his heroe.

BTW: lao, MASSIVE ranks in spot man! i would've never noticed! (i use my skill points in bluff..)

09-06-05, 11:50 AM Yeah, those who have been on the board since Eberron's launch last year have already talked about that. It's pretty cool. Recently though, there have been a number of topics that have resurged like this one. I think we garnered a new bunch of Eberron fans on the boards the past 2-3 months. Good stuff. There was maybe one or two more things like that, another book I think.
