Dreaming_in_the_void 05-26-06, 05:50 PM	A group of gamers (not my usual group) has approached me and asked me to run an Eberron game. I'm a fairly good DM, BUT... I just bought the campaign source book and voyage of the golden dragon on my way home from work. How can I digest the entire vast and cinematic landscape of eberron (which, from what I've hear, is the reason to play in the setting... not a simplification of the rules) in a day... I'm not that fast a reader? Does anybody have a cheat sheet or an outline... even a comprehensive glossary? Thanks, DitV
Count_Rugen 05-26-06, 05:57 PM	Nah. You're mostly screwed. ;) Seriously, get cracking. Just read the ECS really quickly and make your initial game low-level and easily adaptable for the next game (when you presumably will have a better grasp of Eberron).
Forged_Fury 05-26-06, 05:58 PM	If you can, pick up a copy of one of the early Eberron novels. The first two or three came with a surprisingly in-depth glossary at the back. I highly suggest Keith Baker's City of Towers novel, he created the setting afterall. Oh yeah, an even better idea is to go to Johnny O'Neal's Eberron for Newbies post, which is stickied at the top of this page! -Forged_Fury
Androlphas 05-26-06, 06:01 PM	I would say to familiarize yourself with the following: 1. Character options in the ECS: So you can help the players with character creation. 2. The adventure you're going to run: Make a note of places, people and monsters unique to the setting. 3. Look up said places, people, and monsters in the ECS. Make notes of or bookmark page numbers. This way you don't have to read the sourcebook cover to cover, but you will still be familiar with the info you will need to convey to the players throughout the adventure. Good luck!
Majorafire77 05-26-06, 06:22 PM	Understand the countries, a bit of the history (namely what caused the last war and what ended it), and have a basic grasp on the dragonmarked houses. Look up all of the specific areas mentioned in the part of the adventure that you're planning on running; as the adventure progresses you can look over the areas mentioned in other sections of it.
Elderich 05-26-06, 09:17 PM	Honestly I would just wait. Have the group go get the novels/dragon/dungeon/read the dragon shards. I really think your whole group will enjoy Eberron MUCH MUCH more if you take the time. You need to steep yourselves in the pulp/noir culture, the gritty feel. Get your head out of absolute and into relative alignments.

I'd give you mine, but it's kina personalized to my players, as the end focuses specifically on Karnnath. But seriously: powerpoint. Go over the origin of the world, the cosmology, the dragonmarked houses, the various churches, the new races, how the old races are different.

Cancerousmango, I'd love to see the powerpoint, if only for my own edification, and then maybe modify it for this new group (if it sticks together). DitV
